How to change recoil springs?

I am wanting to replace my stock spring in my M&P Pro 9mm and 40 with a lighter one. Can you replace the factory spring with a new lighter spring on the same guide rod or will I need to get a new guide rod as well?

On the end of the factory guide rod there is the hex head and I can't get the old spring off over it. Does it come unscrewed somehow or what???

The hex screw can be unscrewed. Do a search and you'll find som threads, if not here then on the M&P Forum. DO IT IN A PLASTIC BAG!!!!

I believe you can fit the new spring. It's a lot easier to get a new Guide Rod from SSS or whereever you got the new spring(s)
