First practice with a shot timer

What a eye opener it was to practice with a shot timer. My problem has been speed and even while trying to push myself it seemed I was mentally stuck on that perfect sight picture. Working with a timer seemed to free me to sacrifice some accuracy to speed things up. I did some of things suggested on this site like fire into the berm as fast as I could to set a baseline and to go just as fast as I could and then back it off just a little.

AMEN to that!

I've grown verry fond of the par time feature! When doing dryfire drills, if you aren't using ben stoegers program with the baseline par times try to figure out your own limits and keep trying to beat your bests. Usually when I can hit a certain drill 3x in a row I'll bump the par time down .1 . When pushing yourself during dryfire be sure you get a "snapshot" of your sight picture every time, no cheating! The possibilites are pretty much endless, so mix it up and don't be afraid to move. You'll be amazed how quickly you think to yourself when finding/setting your par times, I was that slow??

Does everyone know that there is an I Phone app from SUREFIRE. It was free when I got it, don't know if it's still free but it works really well and has a par timer. Beats the heck out of spending $120 on a timer if you're just getting started.

I couldn't get it to work right.

Once you discover some drills that focus on the areas that you want to improve and that you like, start recording your times and scores. Keep this up over a period of time and you'll be able to see your progress. I use an Excel workbook for this and it really helps.
