Specifying a JP Rifle CTR-02. Am I right here?

I'm about to order a JP Rifle CTR-02, just waiting for the US State Dept. to give us export. (takes forever)

I'm going to use the rifle for IPSC Rifle and I intend to compete in Open class.

The sight will be a Swarovski Z6i 1-6 or a Schmidt & Bender 1-8 when it arrives.

I'm new to this but learn everyday. However it's really difficult as there are almost no guns to look

at or test your own preferences before buying, so it's like a black map.

So my question is what have I done wrong, or could do better.

Once I have the rifle it will be too late, and I'd rather make the mistakes on paper

instead of ordering the wrong thing and order a new part.

A few specific questions:

* Should I order the large-profile JP Tactical Compensator for .223 or am I good with the smaller comp?

* Hand Guard: Extra long hand guard. Good choice or too long?

I just swapped my rifle length VTAC handguard for a PRI 15.5" handguard and love the length and reduced weight. I would go with the longer VTAC handguard as well despite the fact that it will be kind of end heavy.

I say go with the Tank Break. The more comp you have the better IMHO.

No need for the heat sink although they look flashy.

Get yourself at least one extra 3" rail. I use one 3 of them. One for a bipod, one for my Noveske K9 barricade support and one for a sling swivel mount.

I really like my SOCOM stock to compared to the fixed ACE stock. I have and like both but the fixed is fairly short.

I got the Magpul PRS stock, and put on a SJC titan comp (would have the tank brake if I were open class)

I have no "furniture" on my handgaurd, but thanks to Jesse I got a Larue mount with a Trijicon TR24 to complement the rifle.

You can't go wrong with a JP.

If you plan on running open go with the large comp, or the tank break (JP recoil eliminator). The XL handgaurd is somewhat of a personal preference item. My opinion it is better to go too long then too short. If it is too long you just move your hand back to where it is comfortable and deal with extra weight. Too short and you may not have the proper grip, depending on how long your arms are and how you shoulder your rifle.

Naaaaa, I just ghettoed it out with a shim kit

Seriously, it doesn't look THAT bad, just a little drop off when you get to the comp.

Many thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

As it is impossible to export more than 10 shot magazines and collapsible stocks I just took what comes with the rifle, but I do like the ACE stock anyway.

But I will most certainly change it once I have some more experience.

I will stay with the large-profile JP Tactical Compensator.

I confess the heat sink (red!) is more for looks but I presume I can remove it if I like.

Does anyone know how heavy it is?

* New question - there's a possibility to get a pinned comp. Does it mean I can change compensators in the future?

Can't really understand that option, and it seems forbidden in certain US States?

Apart from the "sniper style" I presume my JP rifle will look a bit like this (color)

Does anyone know the length of the hand guard on this picture? (or guesstimate)

Anyone with inspiring pictures of their JP Rifles?

The heat sink can be removed and it doesn't weigh much at all.

That is the standard rifle length handguard at 12-13".

That green color looks sharp!!!

Here is what mine looked like right out of the box (still greasy)

Slapped on an Eotech, and inserted a P-mag (with nordic extention), then took the picture.

Hope it doesn't make you too jealous

BTW, I got the heat sink, it's made of aluminum, and doesn't appear to add any noticable amount of weight. Looks cool, I mean if your gonna go JP, why not get some goodies that they offer

If you get the comp pinned, it is welded in place as well and not removable without some major work. Some states need that done in order to purchase rifles, but it is not something you want if you don't need it done.

I tried the Large profile tactical comp and found it inferior to the original recoil eliminator (Tank brake). For open, get the tank.

Yes it's the 15.5 inch, perfect fit for my long arms.
