Benelli And Light Loads

TBF

Recommended Posts

I have to take a look at the stock fit problems mentioned in a prior thread.

The mag tube and spring seem to be fine, mine comes apart easily and everything looks good.

Kinda confused on the reduced recoil spring issue.

So I'm asking for hints and tips to get mine to cycle light loads.

Thanks in advance.

TF:

Take a look at the MAIN spring tube and buffer, make sure it doesn't have any bend to it, I run standard weight main springs/ recoil spring....or ....err.....whatever Benelli wants to call it. Mine will run 23/4 dram 1oz loads but I like to stay with 3 dram 1 1/8oz, it seems to cycle better when dirty.

How light a load are you triing to run?? What does it do when you try to run them?? Some loads are right on the edge for some Benellis. I had a batch of low recoil slugs once, that if I held the gun real tight and really leaned into it , it would short cycle occasionally. After chronoing them I found out not every bodies 3 dram equivalent is the same! They were in the range of a 1oz slug at 1025, instead of the 1200-1250 I am used to. KURTM

Kurt,

I am in the process of doing exactly that.

After comparison with an off the shelf S90 field, my spring is stiffer.

Brownell's shows 2 springs, standard and heavy.

I guess it could be that simple....

3 dram is fine with me. Problems with anything other than the full power buck and slug in 2 3/4.

Reduced recoil stuff fails to eject, stovepipes, and sometimes stays in the chamber.

Any tips for the stock issue ?

I would like to keep my evil pistol grip stock.

Thanks.

Your stock is binding the main spring tube. Time to file and shape the stock to reciever fit untill it is dead center on the tube... then wallow out the sling/stock retainer plate a little (the big square one at the end of the main spring tube that goes through the stock), so it can't bind on the tube. Now make sure the sling/stock retainer plate is square to the end of the tube when you screw it all down tight, so it doesn't "torque" the tube in any way. Simple right? Next make sure you have the standard main spring. The heavy one is shorter than the regular and quite a bit heavier. After all that you should be able to run lighter stuff. KURTM

Kurt,

Thanks for the reply.

Spring is on order, backorder, dang !

Got a Wolffe reduced power coming too.

I will be looking into the stock thing real soon.

What lube for the inside of the spring tube ?

I would assume something not too thick ?

Kellyn,

Thats just what I need, another project gun.

Kurtm,

Thanks for the help, hope to get this sorted out by this weekend.

Then all I gotta do is learn how to shoot it ...

Works like a dream !

49 out of 50 2 /34 dram loads OK.

50 out of 50 3 dram loads OK.

I see what you mean about the stock thing.

The spring I took out was 7' longer than the Wolff spring I put in, noticably springier too.

THANKS ! for reuniting a guy with his beloved Benelli...
