Need Help-mounting Eotech

Hello,

I am complety new at this so bare with me. I am going to purchase a Eotech but not sure on how I want to mount it.

I have a 1982 Colt Sporter with a carry handle that I am going to use for 3-Gun. Absolutly nothing has ever been done to the gun. Only about 1000 rounds through it.

I at first wanted to mount the Eotech on top of the handle but was told by a few people that it was not recommened Only one SWAT gut said to do it that way???

Most people said that I should get the handle mount that puts it infront but down lower. I saw a shop that they did this and it really bothered me seeing the Iron sights at the same time ( Co-Witnessing)!!

Does anyone have any suggestions. Since I have a limited amount of money to spend I don't want a flat top right now.

For a carry handle gun . . . three basic options:

1. Gooseneck mount to put red dot over handguard

2. Cut off the carry handle and have a rail installed in its place

3. Get a new upper receiver with flat top

For an A2, I think a gooseneck mount is the only way to go for an Eotech sight. Mounting on top of the carry handle results in a sight that is way to high above the bore. My own personal experience with co-witnessing a red dot sight has been positive. You might want to give it another try.

Others have said that if you are going to use a gooseneck, 2 stand above others as being the go to brands. BC-Cam is one (adjustable) and PRI is the other.

I have a BC-CAM on M4-A2 (Bushmaster) supporting an Eotech.

I tried a couple of the goosenecks mentioned (including the one sold by Dillon). They did not allow for co-witness of the iron sights through the Eotech. The held it just a little too tall. The BC-CAM was the only one that would proberly adjust for this set-up.

The BC-CAM mounts so the irons are about 1/8" below the circle in the. I use the Eotech for close up work out to 100yds, then use the irons past that. Remember standard A2 Sites are set for a 300yd zero.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to not co-witness your irons?. It`s a much better thing to have em there if you need em, than not if your optic goes TU on a stage. I get that all the time about people wanting to mount an optic above the front sight post on an AR type rifle so it doesn`t block thier sight picture. IF you pay attention to what you supposed to pay attention to, you won`t see the front sight post anyway.

The PRI mount is designed to work with the EOTech. If you try to mount an EOTech on a standard height gooseneck like the ARMS #39, you will look into the control panel of the optic when looking thru the iron sights. The PRI is made to mount the optic lower so you can see your sights thru the optic and actually be able to use them. It works very good.

I haven`t handled or used the BC mount, so I can`t comment on how it works either way.
