fenwick
I shoot 55g nbt in my 20" jp ar with 25.0 varget and get 3050 fps. I plan on purchasing a savage 12 varmint rifle in 26" barrel. I am wondering what velosities i might expect with this long barrel. I have a guy telling me he runs 40gr v-max with reloader 7 maxed out at 4000fps in his 26 " remington 700. THe only reason i'm not going with a 22-250 is that i have all the load stuff for the 223.
mscott
I have basically the same setup (20" AR and 26" Savage) and gain about 80 fps in the 26" barrel with my 69gr load.
AlamoShooter
I helped a guy with a Varmint trip a few years back, = he was the Varmint guy and I was the "Gun Guy" any way he was buying equipment to fit out his managers for his bussness , 6 Savage guns were put to the field . None of our loads were more than 52 grain in 22-250 and the 223 only two of the Savage guns were 223 Look at the twist rate in the barrel of the bolt gun and decide what distance you want to make hits at Any way the barrel twist is only 1-14 so the bullet should stay light. The Rock River Vamint ARs had 1-8 twist we for the longer shots If you push the bullet past 4000 you are going to /" problably going to" burn out the throut of the barrel much faster . I can check the notes from that trip and let you know what shot the best at what distance for the Savage 223 if you like , but it would tack some time to find the notes.
