Video tape

We have found that using video tape gives us opportunity to see technical mistakes we make during a shoot. My wife and I both compete and always carry the camcorder to video our stages. It can sometimes be a hassle but we generally shoot in a crew so there is always someone available to run the camera. We have the fortune to have a very good shooter that took us under his wing when we first started. Typically we all squad together on club and majors. We video tape him during his run and make clips of all three us on a stage. Not only does it show the stark contrast in skill levels, something we marvel and laugh at, but also allows us to review everyones performance with our own still fresh in our minds. you would be suprised on the small points you pick up - opportunities for improvement in both gun handling and stage management - from watching those clips.

We've invested in iMax camera glasses and will add those to our training routine this weekend. This should add a dimension on grip, transition and target aquisition that is lost in the main video.

Anyway, try it sometime. We enjoy reliving the shoots and learn a ton from watching the tapes.
