Glock 19 Not Going Back Into Battery

My glock 19 doesn't go back into battery until I reset the trigger. I am sure it has to do with some of the mods I've done.

3.5 # connector

polished everything

I cut 1 coil off of the plunger spring

moved the trigger spring up on the trigger bar

I am still useing the stock recoil spring and striker spring. When I say it won't go back into battery I mean when I hand cycle the slide and let it down easy. If I let It slam shut there is no problem.

Is it safe to shoot? Is this normal with these mods? If not HELP PLEASE!

The slide isn't meant to be let down easy during normal use. Does the gun run OK or is it failing to go into battery during live fire?

--------------------------

To check the recoil spring for wear I was told to remove the magazine and empty the gun. Pull the slide about 1/2" to the rear and let it go. If it goes into battery completely then the recoil spring is at least minimally OK.

Another test I've seen done is to load a magazine completely full. Seat the magazine and pull the slide back all the way. Let it forward a little bit and then let go. If it strips a round and goes completely into battery then the recoil spring is at least minimally OK.

These both assume a stock Glock so YMMV.

------------------------------

I had a stock G19 that was failing to go into battery during live fire. After replacing all the springs and detail cleaning everything with no luck, I was eventually told to replace the extractor. This did the trick. There is a lot of stuff interacting to make the gun work and sometimes it can be hard to figure out.

Good Luck.

Thanks guys,

Found the culprit. The plunger spring somehow got turned sideways. I noticed this after a cleaning. I check the recoil spring from time to time the first way Vincent mentioned. I was a little afraid to fire it after I ran the recoil spring test and it didn't go back into battery.

Thanks Again

The test I use is to take an UNLOADED gun and hold the trigger back, rack the slide back, then let the slide forward with my hand...to the point just before the barrel starts to rotate up, then I release the slide. It should close by itself. Oh...this is all with the muzzle pointing straight up. If it would close unless you let the trigger forward...then it fails the test.
