  1. Just buy a set of dies. Get a carbide sizer so you don't need lube. The factory crimp die comes in a set from Midway. It has a powder die you won't need with a 550. Althuogh it is out of stock right now if you mix and match you should be able to get underway. Dies are not that expensive so you may as well buy new ones.

Edit to add: I was looking at .40 so the size you want may be in stock.

  2. Welcome. First thing you may want to do is find a club and go to a match and watch. Don't be suprised if someone offers to loan you a rig so you can shoot the match. And don't assume they are just being polite and weren't serious about really letting you use their stuff even though you may have never met them before. You will get more advice than you can use and will make lots of new friends and will go home with a smile on your face. Ask lots of questions. Use the search function on this site because someone has probably asked a question about something you are thinking about already. That way you will have an answer right away without waiting for people to respond. If you can't find an answer on the search function someone here will be able to answer your question or at the very least give you a really technical line of bullshinola that will sound cool. Join USPSA and read the rule book multiple times. Somethings wont make sense until you see them on a course. Thats why you should go over the book a few times. Have fun. :D

  3. im assuming reverse osmosis???

Ding, ding, ding. we have a winner. City water is the safest bet because of all the regulations they have to adhere to, but it can have a chlorine taste, especially in the spring when water can taste funny. Home RO systems can eliminate all the bad taste and are good if you have well water. A regular water softener can help also. Bottled water or purchased water does not have any regulations to adhere to and often times bottled water is just from a particular city's public water system. So a person who may think they are getting water from the Rocky Mountians are actually getting it from New York City's public water system. Read the bottle closely.

  4. Sportsmans warehouse are closing up business. It has been aledged that the owner is heavily in debt and is closing most stores. All of them in MN look like that and no more stuff is comming in. That sucks to because that was my favorite store. :angry2:

  5. I have never been to this match but i plan on going next year. My daughter has a friend in Plano she wants to see so i guess we will make it a family outing. What's the theme for next year? I know, bailouts, you have to carry buckets on all the stages and dump money down the drain :roflol:

  6. Dude, i don't want to be rude, but you are over thinking things. Your last post was: Brazo or SV. Now it's 5 or 6 inch. If you are new to this game it probably won't matter. A lot of it is personal preference. It is impossible for me or anyone else to give you an accurate answer because you may like what i hate. As your skill develops it will go through its own evolution and you may decide something you once liked you now may not like so much. If you can try some side by side that will give you an indication of what they feel like on that day at your current skill level. 6 months from now you may wish you had gone the other way or, heaven forbid, gone into open...nooooooo!!!!!!!

Any respectable smith will give you a quality product that will give you many years of happy time. So, fish or cut bait. Summer's comming and it's time to start throwing lead down range.

  7. I just recieved my Bedell this Feb. and am very happy with it. My opinion when your buying a gun in this class (custom, semicustom by a gunsmith) and price range, is to buy the gun you like the look of best. All of these smiths are top notch in quality and stand behind their work. The waits may vary a little but thats just semantics. I also don't like 6 inch guns. I think they are ugly so i got a 5 incher. I ain't shoot'n no gun i think is ugly even if people say they are better. I also didn't want a chrome or stainless gun. My friend has a blue Brazos and it looks killer. A couple of others also have Brazos and like them a lot but i didn't want what everyone else had so i went with a Bedell Custom from Shooters Connection and it is one fine shoot'n iron. Pick a smith who does something you like the look of and place an order. Chances are you will be a happy camper who ever you choose.

  8. I use no primer no powder bullets as well. I painted them red, which was a mistake because the paint flakes off into your mag. If you have dedicated practice mags that is not a problem, but i don't, so i will do it over. I also used bullets from range pick ups. When collecting brass you always seem to get a few loaded rounds which I will disassemble and use those bullets since they will never be fired.

  9. I had my bag in my car ready to go to the match but have been having back problems and i can't drive more than a half hour without my right arm going numb and my upper back screaming at me. And working third shift, driving 90 miles to shoot a match, then driving 90 miles back, doesn't leave much time for sleep. But i will get to the points match in July. I did my RO class at PIPS, Where did you guys park all the cars?

  10. KGentry here on the forum, in the dealers area. He has or possibily had, a special going on for 40% off of Rudy stuff. I just got an extra set of lenses from his site (multilaser red) for $39. Racing Red weren't dark enough in bright sunlight for me, although they work very well at any other time.

Edit to add: I didn't see you wanted RX lenses. That may be a different story. I would send a PM to KGentry and get the scoop from him.

  11. The bad part is people are going to think you were digging in a porta potty. Actually you should go to MacDonalds and order french fries and causually tell the counter person you are a porta-potty cleaner as you grab a french fry....

  12. Also, don't look to see if you hit the target. If you were watching the sites and aimed correctly you should know if you hit the target or as the case may be, missed the target and need to crack off another round. When your brand new this is sometimes hard to do, but you don't want to establish bad habits. Just go slow and get good hits, speed will come with experience, and of course be safe and have fun.

  13. I have a Sears card from Citi bank. They sent me a notice that my APR was going up to 26%. I called and asked why and they said the current economic climate bla bla bla. I said my Credit score is almost 800 and your still raising my rate. They said yup. :angry2: So now i will use the card to scrape old bubble gum off the bottom of park benches...

  14. This is crazy....well maybe crazy is the wrong word, but just think about what was done here. A guy showed a photo of something that he had no idea about what, where or when, and in a matter of hours the BE community has revealed the truth behind the photo. Wow, well done.

    I need lottery numbers...

  15. It's not unusual for rounds to fit your gun and not the case gauge. The case gauge is smaller than your gun. Check to ensure your sizeing die is set all the way down. If you have different brands of dies some resize farther down than others. I can almost gaurantee you your problem is setup. Check with calipers to find where your problem is. Your crimp die may not be set correctly. I will also garantee that Dillion's Precision is much more than yours at this point. Don't trash the product until you find the problem. Lest we end up with egg on our face.

  16. I don't know how far you are wandering from home but don't eat anything unusual the day before your match. If you want to sample local cuisine save it for after the match. You dont want that jalapenio egg and bean breakfast burrito with chilli and hot sauce to start working its magic on your already nervous stomach. When the RO calls out "Are you ready" you need to be concentrating on your run, not getting the runs. :surprise: Also hydrate the night before and don't forget to smell the roses, ie, enjoy the experience.
