Hey all,
I am looking for a good 9mm Major powder and I stumbled into some Pistol Power. Anyone ever use
It for 9mm Major?

Well looking in Brownells it seems STI only makes a 38s/9mm slide. Les Baer only makes a 38s and Capian lists a 9mm. So I guess it begs the question as to what the difference is in breech face between say the Les Baer 38s and Caspian 9mm?

While tuning an extractor may make 38 supercomp reliable in a 38 super platform, a true 38 supercomp built gun will have a 9mm breechface for added reliability and margin of error. Otherwise, the brass will have more room to move around on the breech face when fired. From using 38 supercomp in both types of platforms, I can say with certainty that a 9mm breech faced gun has much more margin of error when tuning the extractor for 38 supercomp, and thus, when tuned correctly, will be more reliable.
Ah ha! This makes more sense! I knew there had to be a difference! Then why the heck does STI only make there Open guns in 9mm and 38 Super....not 38sc?!?!

The load.....take a 9mm and load to major power factor, hence 9 major. Only allowed in Open.
Hey Thanks.... But I understood that. But it's the same exact gun? Just change springs? I could shoot 9 Major in my STI 9mm Edge??
T
You could--but why would you want to? 9 Major is a very hot load and we load 9s to major PF to compete in Open. I don't know anybody else who would shoot 9 major in any other gun than a gun designed to compete in Open.
No...no..... I have no intention of doing that with my Edge. I was just using it as an example to understand. I am looking to buy a used Open gun and I passed on a nice 38 Super gun....or at least that's what I thought. I did not know it would shoot 38sc and everyone is running a 38sc comp. Duh.... Now I know!

Cool. Thanks guys. So what makes a 9 major gun different from a normal 9mm gun?

Hey All,
I am searching for a used Open gun for this year. Is my search fu correct in that the only difference between a 38 super gun and 38 sc is tuning the extractor? So, if I buy a 38 Super gun the conversion is as simple as that?? Thanks

Do the stick with the mag catch removed?
Not sure. Never tried that. I will check that out too. Even with a stock Grams it works fine .....but then I get slide lock with one round left. It only hangs up on a trimmed Grams and that's with different tubes too

I had an issue like that. It was my mag catch. The mag catch was touching the front of the mag and stopping it after I took my thumb off it. When I hit it the second time the mag would fall out.
That's what mine does. Second push drops it. But why do the stock STI followers work perfectly???

Thanks for the help guys! I will call Grams and that Brazos article is awesome! Thanks!
Other than that it feeds 23+1 rounds flawlessly!

Get an EGW Tungsten STI full length GR. The difference is night and day..... you can thank me later

Can anyone tell me exactly where to file it?
T

You need to file your slide lock. The grams will probably not lift your slide lock to lock your slide and it just pass by the slide lock.
Now when your release the mag, the grams follower hangs on above the slide lock.
I thought this might be part of the problem! Thanks. But the STI follower has no problems? Stock STI Mags fly out.....

I am trying different combinations for my 9mm Edge. Using 140mm mags and Dawson base pads w/ grams followers. I have used SNL and standard plus 1. Trimmed follower to not lock at slide lock and two different mags will not drop free 100% when empty? It just sits there and after I release mag release and then hit it the second time....it drops?? It does this intermittently?
If I use an unaltered grams follower I am getting slide lock....but with one round still in the mag?? Ideas?
Thanks

I am looking for some extra followers only? Any idea who sells them w/o springs?

1.135" seems pretty common. I have loaded as short as 1.120"
T

No need to have them do it. Just order a tube and screw it on. A lot of people use the Nordic tube too
T

Thanks guys. Are the Grams 40 followers and 38 followers the same? I already have 40 mags for Limited. If so I may buy 9mm guts. But either way I will get the 9/38 tubes.
T
No...
They're the same according to their website. Followers for 38, 40 and 45 are the same. 9 is slightly shorter.
Thanks! Thats what I thought. I noticed it on Shootersconnection too. Just drop 40 drop guts and basepads in 9mm
mags plus the spacers.
-
Ok I thought I had this figured out.....
But for Dawson Basepads...... If I go 9 Major do you use a +1 or +1 SNL?
I heard that the 9mm round can get stuck on the tube lip? What is with the
Dawson 9mm basepad??? Never knew it existed.......

KKM gunsmith fit - not difficult to do and you don't have to be a gunsmith to do it.
I was told by them that this is not a Glock option anymore....

2 Down,
Thanks, I agree. I use Varget and 168's for longer range. I am just looking for a descent amount of accuracy ( not MOA ) for 3 gun in my face kind of ammo. I think I can reload it w/ cheap surplus 844 and pulled ball rounds for less than the crazy prices of surplus 308 ammo these days.......
T

I am looking for a an accurate load in my 308 with surplus H335/844 and 150 grain FMJ bullets??
T

I have found 42.6 grains of TAC and a 150 SMK and 147 WIN FMJBT to be very accurate in an M1A, FAL, and Mega AR10. Its right around 2700.
