Hey thanks guys! I got it up to make major ( 168pf), but it shoots "better" to me at 178pf. Seems flatter or faster back on target. I will text Dan and see what he recommends too. Shot it in my first match today and it ran perfect. Just trying to tweak a load to make it "feel" it's best. Thanks!

Hey all,
I am new to Open and was curious to know about the zen theory of load development in a Open gun? I came from shooting Limited and just tried to make major and shoot soft. What are we trying to do in Open? I am loading in 9 Major if it matters with no holes. Obviously flat is good. But what power factor?
Or what else? Can you get flat and soft?
Thanks!

Pull the module. The color dot is underneath. Red-2MOA, yellow-8MOA, blue-6MOA, green-4MOA
Sorry, I forgot I posted this. Thanks!!

Hey All,
I have a new to me Bedell Open gun. I am wondering how I can tell the dot size since the previous owner was not sure? It looks fairly big so I am guessing 6 or 8....

If you are having a racker installed definitely go with a ball detent setup

With Firebird hopefully releasing their all US built Tac12a1 later this year the supply of parts should be a thing of the past. It also sounds like it would be quite a bit cheaper than the R&R and hopefully with better QA, Jim will be able to make a high performing comp for it.
The Rhino Arms AR10 based gun also looks really interesting, though quite a bit pricier, but I havent seen a single video of it running yet, so hard to tell if its vaporware or a serious contender yet.
Personally, with potentially two exciting new products slated for release later this year I would wait a few more months before deciding. I'll be following both closely to see if its worth upgrading/switching.
If you really need one now, see if you can find both an MKA and Saiga and try them out next to each other. I have owned a Saiga and currently own two Firebird MKAs, so I obviously prefer the MKA, but I'd say that the choice is more personal preference than anything. Both have pros and cons and either one will most likely serve you well.
How is the TAC12-A1 going to be better than just buying what Firebird is selling now?? When will it be available?
I am switching to Open and need an Open shotgun.....kinda now....

Seriously....do yourself a HUGE favor.....try and find a used Benelli M2. I found one local with less than a box thru it for $850

Hey thanks for the help. That's what I was afraid of with the metal stock.....and they just sold out of the normal stocks in December...
So would you go with a Saiga if you had to do again? Or just wait for the normal stocked Vepr to come back in stock?
Thanks

Open STI's are made for 9mm major. It just seems like an unpopular powder for Open guns....

Hey all,
I am looking for an Open shotgun. The new Vepr's available have a metal stock. Can it be easily changed to another fixed stock? Do mags fit like an AR? Are other mods needed initially?
Thanks

Lots of PP haters here. It's very loud and blasty but will work just fine for 9 major. I shot it for years in a Glock and a P9. I've run it up to 180PF with no signs of pressure.
Thanks. I still may try a pound if I can not find the others listed..... Or to trade.

Case gauge them all. If they do not fit with a plunk....I shoot them in practice. Got hosed at an Area 1 once prior to
case gauging....... Not again.

Hello: You have 2 good powders to use right now. The Silhouette will be the softer / flatter of the two you have. 3N37 will be cleaner and a littel harder on the hand but shoots fairly flat. I would keep looking for Hodgdon HS-6, Winchester Auto Comp or Silhouette. Alliant Blue Dot will work also but not the best. You can check with some shotgun shooters to see what they have. Good luck on your powder searching, it is scarry out there. Thanks, Eric
Thanks for the help Eric. I just found 4lb of Silhoutte. I will keep searching for the others and hope the great powder drought ends....

I just stumbled across some and wondered if it could make major....seems the answer is not really
T

Ok.....maybe I just need to pass on the Power Pistol all together....bummer....why couldn't I have stumbled across 40lbs of 3n37! LOL!

Cool! I just know Dillon flares the sizer bottom... I assume... To aid machine smoothness and function? Never tried any others.
Thanks!

Its gonna be loud and flashy....
LOL.....that's probably not what I am looking for......how about soft and flat as Kansas!

Hey All,
I have always used the Dillon dies, but wanted to try a set of Hornady 9mm dies on my 550? Any issues?

SP2 is a foreign powder that basically nobody imports into the US anymore. Supposed to be the bomb in 9MAJOR but if it's unavailable whats the point.
I would buy the power pistol to use for trading purposes. Silhouette and 3N37 are both good 9MAJOR powders though.
Thanks for the SP2 intel! I am gunna try a pound of the Power Pistol. Seller said I could try some and buy more if it works. I saw a chart posted here that showed it worked the comp well. Thanks!

Interestingly enough its a DAn Bedell gun. What does he recommend now? I have Silhouette and a little 3n37 to try.Yes I tried it and did not like it But I use SP2.
At one time Power pistol was a go to powder for Dan Bedell
And btw what is SP2...not familiar? Not that I could find any of it or any other powder for that matter....

I am getting a new to me used 9mm Major Open Gun and I am trying to find powder. I stumbled into 40lbs of Power Pistol that I can buy......but I do not see it being popular? Seems like it would work? Anyone try it???

Open pistol load development theory?

I would agree it is Definetely flatter at the higher 178 pf. It's hard to experiment with a lack of powder availability.....
