  1. I always read on the Internet how the XD series of pistols is unreliable. However, I have had nothing but reliability from several XD’s, and the ones I see at matches tend to run well.

So what is everyone’s experience with them??

Have an original XD Tactical milled for CO when it first began. Ran great when I was using it

  2. Some barrels are just too hard to hand ream. Had same problem with an XD barrel. Called Dave Manson and after talking with him, sent reamer back for his inspection. Good guy, very helpful. Turns out barrel too hard and dulled reamer. He sent back all sharpened up and ready for next one. Left barrel alone - may send it off one of these days.

  3. OK, I have a Mason reamer and tried to ream my P-09, but I'm not sure I made any progress. I got the correct "oil" and everything, turned the reamer with the "T" handle. I did it by hand, holding the reamer and the barrel in each hand.

Please someone give a step by step on how to do this

You most likely are referring to a Manson throat reamer. Called Dave Manson when my reamer would not cut barrel of my XD. Turns out barrel was too hard. Dave told me to send it to him and he would check out. Nothing wrong with the reamer but it had been dulled trying to cut the XD. Great guy to deal with. He sharpened and returned to me. I felt like an idiot for not being able to do this simple task.

  4. Yep, sounds like you just need more lead on the targets. Choke tubes will help you dial in a pattern that will work for you and give you some flexability. Lots of places install choke tubes. Do your homework in checking out who you choose to do the work. A bad choke tube installation will make you very unhappy.

  5. Boy, you guys need to lighten up some. The idea was to do something a little different, have some fun and maybe get a few of the old shooters to come out. That was accomplished. Basically it WAS A HOOT. The best shooter in our club organized, did most of the work, and used his own targets (Thanks Chad). No donations were taken - basically it was FREE (except for the considerable rounds expended). I know of no attendee who did'nt have a good time. I had just taken a class from Manny on Fri and must admit I wasn't applying much of his teachings - but geez, it was a good time.

PS: Had Manny not had to get home for his daughters graduation - he would have been there too - I'm confident that he too would have found it to be lots of fun.

  6. Gonna buy some Wilson SS mags. Can get the Elite Tactical about same price as 47D's. Have some questions:

1 Will both function well with a S&A magwell?

2 Is one heavier than the other?

3 If experience with both, which one would you recommend for USPSA competition

  7. Let's say I have go to use the restroom. Can I be DQ'd if I remove my gun belt with the gun still in the holster while not in a safety area? Or if I have a paddle holster, can I be DQ'd if I remove the paddle holster and gun as a unit while not at a safety area?

The common answer I hear is "yes", and when I ask by which rule the response is that it is 10.5.1.

    As I read 10.5.1:

10.5.1 Handling a firearm at any time except when in a designated safety area or when under the supervision of, and in response to a direct command issued by, a Range Officer.

In the Corrections to USPSA Handgun Competition Rules of January 2008 it says:

Handling (as in “handling a firearm”) The act of manipulating, holding or gripping a firearm while the trigger is functionally accessible.

Since a legal holster prevents access to the trigger and I'm only dealing with my entire gun belt or paddle holster and not manipulating the gun, I don't see how 10.5.1 applies. Even if people argue that at some point I may have to touch the gun while removing the belt or holster, the trigger is still not accessible.

Another response I can think of is "yes", but rule cited is 10.5 in general for unsafe gun handling, instead of the more specific 10.5.1. This is since 10.5 is not an exclusive list, but simply a list of examples. In this case, I refer back to the definition of "handling", and again it looks like I'm not "handling" the firearm by the definition of "handling".

I'm straining hard here to make the answer be "yes", but it looks more and more like the answer is "no". Can anybody with a lot more RO training/experience guide me into the correct way of thinking here?

Anyway, to avoid the issue entirely, I always go to the safety area first to case my gun if ever I need to take my belt off.

Guys, its a simple case of priorities. If nature dictates speed to the facility and bagging would be a problem you can either fill your pants or do what you have to do and risk the DQ. Myself, I would risk the DQ

  8. Why have we watered skeet down?

Birds are slower, and the set up is entirely different.

Why would we do that? I don't get it.

I've yet to achieve my goals in American skeet. Long ways to go there. But knowing that once I've achieved some goals that there's a whole world of international skeet that is a whole new game all together is perplexing.

Wouldn't it be cool to be traveling over in Europe or something and get a chance to run some skeet? I'll do it, but I know it'll be a whole different ball game. And really there's no excuse for that - I can't for the life of me figure out why we watered the game down?

    Jack

Ask the manager at the club where you shoot if you can crank up the machines a little. If he has been around for awhile, he can tell you just how much is needed to throw international targets. Shoot low gun - used to do it all the time. Great training for over all shotgunning and wing shooting. The mount is everything.

  9. I have asked this question before but this time I am making my own post :D . Is it possible to get more than 18 rounds reloadable in an SVI BOX LEGAL mag?? If anyone has done this I like to hear about it!! What is your secret!!

I have 18 rounds now in 5 mags using only SVI components. If I want more, I have to use some other kind of mag body, right? SPS or RHT rescomp. Out of curiosity I wonder why do you get more rounds in those tubes? Are they fatter, stack the rounds differently, longer, all of the above?

Is there any combination of components that has proven to give higher capacity? For example the most roomy base pad?

The SPS mags with proper internals will encrease your capacity as stated. Be aware they are not compatable with some of the long AOL's we load in.40

  10. My gas oven recently wouldn't heat up, it turned out the igniter had gone bad. To get to it you open up the oven, there is a panel that covers the entire inside bottom of the oven, when you remove that you see a thing at the back that is a heating element attached to the gas supply, it is pretty easily removed. I took it to my local appliance part store and they verified that it was busted.

However, in my case the symptom was just that the oven wouldn't heat up, there were no flames at all.

Would be no flames if it was the ignitor.

  11. Ideal OAL for 40sw in SVI with SVI magazines. What do you use? I am thinking 1,18”? I think I read somewhere in this forum that this works best in SVI tubes but I am not sure. Please enlighten me!

Use 1.220 with Mont Gold JHP's and 1.200 with Black Bullets Int - works in both my SVI and STI framed limited guns with SVI mags

  12. Borrowed a tac-sol from friend to try - would not slide onto my Kimber or either of my limited frames. Bought a STI/Marvel which slid right on the Kimber ( not the limited slides though). Shoots anything and everything I load in it. Bought 4 extra mags with it ( they are Advantage ) Unit and mags are drop dead reliable - would heartily recommend.

  13. Take it to the trap field and shoot it. Do the same at skeet field and sporting clays . Shoot 'low gun' (not mounted) if you want to improve your wing shooting. By no means is it an ideal trap gun or suitable for ATA registered competition but shooting it in any of the disciplines will get you more familiar with it which will equate to better scores in 3gun. Have fun with it.

  14. Hello: I was going to look for a old look but new motorcycle. Kinda a retro bike look but new. Something like the new Mini's and Mustangs etc. Do any of you guys have a suggestion for me. Not really a Harley guy but do like the looks of the old XR750's. I do like the older English,German and Jap bikes though. Let me know. Thanks, Eric

Talked my dad into cosigning a loan for me when I was a senior in high school back in 1966. Bought a 1964 Bonneville (T120R) from a guy shipping out in the Navy - was mint - $750. It was sooooooooo cooooooooool. I bought a new Harley in 05 - performance LowRider with engine mods. Really nice bike - but nothing will ever replace the memories of the summer of 66 and my Triumph!!!!!!!!!!
