I think the best bet is a USIPSC organization to serve as the IPSC Regional Directorate for USA. This still allows USPSA to run their own matches with their own rule-book, but offers a viable alternative.

The division differences - particularly in Production and ProdOptics - may be an issue for some, but both divisions are popular world-wide with their more restricted rule-sets.

IMO, USPSA has to get quite a bit worse before IPSC is an alternative.

There is a current AD who actually can't hold the position becaise they are not and have never been an RO. Bylaws were changed before they took office. In fact this person had 167 days to get the cert before taking the position and didn't. Why are they still on the BOD?

I think it's fairly obvious, it gets delayed/dragged out so he can complete the RO class and not get kicked out, as opposed to the YML situation, the BOD wants to keep this guy around and once completed and "legit", it's a harder case to kick him out, since he then actually meets the criteria.

It seems like a slam dunk case, the BOD could (and should) kick him out immediately without any further delay.

Out of curiousity I did a search and RSR Group has this brand listed under Ortho.  I don't have a dealer account so can't see pricing or availability

    https://www.rsrgroup.com/search?Category=5&Facets[exclusive]=on&Facets[DEPT][]=zzz_5&Facets[MAN][]=zzz_orthos&LastFacet=MAN_zzz_orthos

The 250 that UTAS imported sold for around $1300, I would expect RSR to keep the MSRP around there as well, but a confirmation would be nice :)

  4. Oddly, the brake isnt the same as on the guns sold in Europe.

Also, both receiver and barrel seem to be marked "Made in the USA", which is a bit odd, but could be for 922(r) compliance (which would also explain the brake).

However, if these are getting a number of US parts made/installed by someone who cant figure out which way a brake goes, Im going to let someone else be the guinea pig.

Very important update.  I just received a call from Genesis Arms regarding my purchase within the past half hour.  Allegra (sp?) explained to me that they are experiencing supply chain issues due to the Covid, which I understand, as the company I work for has experienced supply issues, as well as volatility in material prices due to the lockdown/work restriction measures in some areas of the country.  She assured me that they are processing orders as quickly as possible and stated they will keep better lines of communication with customers to allay any uncertainties.  Status as of this moment is, I'm staying the course and waiting for my Gen12.  Looking forward to posting in the future as to just how bad-azz it is.

Looks like the Orthos (aka Tigris) finally landed here in the US as well. Reviews from Europe are good, so thats likely to be a good option for those of us looking for an AR based shotgun.

Wondering what the wear is going to look like on the buffer tube holes where the RDB buffer rollers interact with them.

They claim they have tested 10k rounds without much wear or issue. Even if you have to replace a $20 tube every 10k rounds, that doesnt seem too bad.

Is it that much better than an MPX ?

No. But it has all the hype.

A couple of years ago, the MPX was still well ahead of the AR platform, but with all the advancements and added knowledge over the years, the current top of the line AR based carbines are pretty much on par with the MPX in terms of soft shooting.

The JP5 might take away the time needed testing and playing around with parts to get a soft shooting AR running well, but the midpackers that think its going to catapult them to the top are going to be disappointed :)

If you have the money to spend though, why not? Still a lot cheaper than an Open gun.

If you dont mind waiting a bit, I assume that there will be other manufacturers coming out with this too, at a much lower price.

There's also the Scheel roller delayed buffer available, if you wanna play around with something now.

    What about:

5.1.8 A competitor who substitutes or significantly modifies a firearm during a match without the prior approval of the Range Master will be subject to the provisions of Section 10.6.

I have always thought a firearm had to remain in the same condition through out the match.

Well, it doesnt say it has to stay the same, just that you can't do significant modifications, but what does "significantly" really mean? The "significant" wording is there in the multigun rules as well, but also state you can remove/add bipods, slings and flashlights

5.1.2 in the multigun rules is pretty specific, but there's no similar wording in the handgun rules.
As Greg stated above, the flashlight use case is a real one, since we sometimes finish matches in the dark.

  9. I tried to figure out what the rules say about adding/removing stuff from a PCC during a match between stages e.g.

    1. Laser

    2. 45 offset dot

    3. Flashlight

    4. Bipods (dont really think youd ever need it, but there could come a day! :))

As far as i can tell/guess, I'd say No on 1,  Maybe on 2, as 5.1.7 only states "Same type of sight". Removing one out of two identical red dots still has you using the same type.

Yes on 3 and 4, as youre still staying within 5.1.7 and it's not significantly modifying the firearm per 5.1.8

Would it be accurate to say that your primary reason for purchasing a G-12 was in consideration of it being a competition/gaming gun rather than a defensive tool?

Absolutely. If it was only for a defensive tool, Id have no issues with it, as it ran 100% out of the box.

Do you think ordering the 14.5 would of made any difference with the recoil or shooting?? I been contemplating between the two for home defense purposes. What did you mean by no easy way to get it to work with the brake on? All their instagram postings looks like it shoots flawlessly with the added brakes.

It might work with a junk brake on it, but if you put something like a GK on it, it will stop working until you shoot much hotter ammo, which will basically put you back to where you started without a brake.

The softest you can get it to shoot is with the weakest birdshot it will cycle.

I gave up on it and decided to sell mine. Its a fun novelty gun, but I bought it to compete with and for that, it's not the best choice.

Finally got mine, and I have to say it was well worth the wait!  Cody at Genesis definitely went above and beyond to make up for the delay.  They when ahead and installed the beef up kit, as well as gave me free of charge, an extra 5 round magazine, a Hiperfire OE trigger group, buffer tube assembly, Hogue grip and even installed all of the free components in the lower that I had provided for cerakote!  They also shipped it in a gun case boxed.  The quality of the upper is amazing!  Fit, finish, and machining are top notch.  Definitely worth the money and wait.  Thanks Genesis Arms!

Yupp, its a very nice gun for sure and mine ran 100% out of the box.

However, not being able to put an effective brake on it was a huge downer to me and sadly puts the Genesis in my plinker and novelty safe section.

Firebirds and Dissidents are more expensive, custom type guns, the Genesis is the out of the box reliable mag fed 12 I've waited for as a back up to my ultra reliable Versa Max tactical (which truly cycles *anything* without fail)

Recoil - eh, that's WAY down the priority list as a self defense gun - reliability and ease of magazine swap outs is by far #1.  From everything I've seen, the Genesis is flawless with everything except the very lightest target loads.  I'll wait patiently for my order and test it myself.

Actually, a complete Genesis Arms is more expensive than a Firebird, but yes, cheaper than a DA. However, a Genesis Arms shotgun will get pretty close to a DA once youve added the necessary race parts.

Im only talking about the guns as it pertains to competition, as I doubt anyone would really use a DA or FB for home defense and as such, the GA still has quite some ways to go to be competitive with the other two.

For home defense though, between the three, I would probably pick the GA as well.

  14. Back from the range with the new mags.

    Some observations..

The 10s are slightly different dimensions vs the 5s. The 5s fit fine and drop free in Fulton and Aero lowers, but the 10s needed some material taken off to even fit in the Fulton, much less drop free, and still won't fit in the Aeros.

The shotgun ran fin with the 10s with the 1145, 1200 and 1250 1 1/8 oz loads I tried.

Recoil is stout, even with a PRS stock on there for weight.

Tried putting a GK02 brake on it, which tamed recoil quite a bit, but turned it into a single shot.

Played around with buffer weights, but couldn't find anything that would work better than ~50% with the brake on.

It's a fun novelty, but with the recoil being so heavy and no easy way to get it to run with a brake, I dont really see this as a contender to the Firebirds and Dissidents out there, esp not since it's in the same price range as those.

Finished the 2nd 3-gun shoot at the Lodi Gun Club(Winnequa)....ran 3 boxes of lower recoil 7.5 thru the Genesis shotguns with out any problem...the 10 round magazine- got four- worked great.  They are tight tolerances and dropped two in the sand and had to clean them- the folllowers stuck in the body with the sand inside.  Worked great after that and on a plus got the spinner in four shots.

The mags are shipping? Their web site still says pre-order.

For 40/45 $ I dont think theres a better mag. The magpul ones are 130$ by comparison

D60s can easily be found for under $100 on various sales. The last ones I bought were $90-something shipped.

Personally, I'd rather spend $90 on a mag that works than $40 on one that doesnt. YMMV.
