Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Sadlak mount on an M1A Scout Squad, with a Trijicon Accupoint and a LaRue SPR-E mount. I ended up removing the scout mount and replacing the hand guard (for looks). I'm very happy with it: http://www.ghideon.com/p1000155.jpg http://www.ghideon.com/p1000156.jpg http://www.ghideon.com/p1000157.jpg
  2. This was my first attempt at reloading, and the powder was given to by my father (8lb jug, loaded over 7500 rounds of 9mm with it). No signs of pressure loading at 3.6gr w/124 JHPs (at least that I could tell). 3.7gr is the listed max on Hodgdon's site. From 10 round strings, it averaged 1003 fps from a 5inch 1911, and 1001.7 fps from a 3.5 inch P2000. Standard devs were pretty good, too. 6.09 for the 1911 and 9.41 for the P2000. This was Winchester Primers and Speer +P+ Nickel cases, OAL at 1.150. On my load notes I have that for the 1911, the ejected cases were barely clearing my right arm. I have a lighter recoil spring on order. Also, my Walther P99 averaged 1002.4fps with this load, SD at 6.04. It's a great target practice load for me.
  3. For minor with 124gr Montana Gold JHPs, I have tried Clays, Universal, and Power Pistol. Clays was OK, I barely made minor with it. Really light recoil. Universal was slightly better, with still fairly light recoil. Power Pistol I think I like the most (still debating btw it and Universal). I also have loaded light 357mag with Universal and PP, and they both feel pretty good. I've only tested over the chrono, and not really for accuracy or groups. So far Power Pistol is leading the pack. A little snappy and flashy, but I don't have a problem with that.
  4. Thanks everyone. This gun will be for informal steel shoots. I work nights, and can't compete USPSA due to my schedule. I'm definitely leaning towards the PC 627. They have one at my local fun shop, but since I'm in CA I've got another 20 days or so before I can buy another handgun.
  5. Looking for my first DA revolver, probably a 627, or 686 or 686+. With the 627, if it is cut for moonclips, will this necessitate use of the moonclips all the time? Meaning you would not be able to use a speed loader (or load the cylinder manually)? Thanks
  6. Clays w/124gr JHPs works for me. 3.6gr Clays, OAL at 1.150. Clocks in around 1020ish with a 5inch barrel, so you're barely making minor at that point. Pretty light (compared to WWB), and very clean. I'm just starting out with my 650, and the powder was given to me. From what I've read here, Clays isn't a good candidate for 9mm, and doubly so for 147gr bullets.
  7. Just chrono'd my very first load today. Temp was in the mid to high 50s. 115gr Montana Gold JHPs, 3.7gr Clays, OAL at 1.125 (Starting load as listed by Hodgdon) with CCI small pistol primers: Average of 10 shots: SA 1911 full size: 1078 HK P2000: 1061 Walther P99: 1068 Also have data for 124gr MG JHPs if anyone needs it. 3.6gr Clays w/OAL at 1.150 and Winchester primers, velocities in the 990-1010 range with the above three guns.
