  1. I have been reloading a long time and never asked this question, just did as i was told early on. What is the difference between a small Pistol primer and a small Magnum Pistol, and then the same question in a small rifle and small Magnum rifle primer.

    Thanks

  2. I Shot a Tang/Witness Silver cup in 9x21 for years back when it was 175 PF. That gun took me a long way, but the weeknss in that gun at the time was the frames cracking at the slide stop. I made sure that all my practice was with light loads and I only pushed her on match day. that being said she took me a long way. Now I have my 2011 and love it. The 2011 is the 350 Chevy of race guns, plenty of parts, many gun smiths can work on them. The EAA/CZ .... not so much. I like both I have owned both My hands are actually a bit on the smaller side, the silver cups fit me well the gold cups with the slightly bigger frame did not. Slight modification to my 2011 grips and it fits like a glove. Ask to shoot a few of the different guns you see at the range. Many great builders out there as well.

  3. Ok I am looking at getting my open gun back in the game. Not a lot of rounds on her but I do want to loose the weight of the Halo sight. I am wondering if the STS2 is worth the extra $$ over the tried and true slide ride on a mount. Please give me your opinions. The gun is a 38 super Comp only.

    Thanks

  4. As the title says I want to try this out, as appealing as buying a new gun is adn always will be I want to do this one on a bit of a budget. I have a good old 870 that has not done much in the back of my safe for several years. SO i figured I would through a new barrel on it with a small extension tube and go rock and roll. So what barrel due you all suggest. I think I want to use the Williams Fire Sights on it as well, but that is also open to suggestions.

    Thank you

  5. Ok I am getting back into shooting, Is there a good all around powder for these calibers? 9mm is minor, a major and minor load for the 40 (Springfield xdm) and 45 ACP. With all the powder shortages I am looking for one powder I can buy in a 4 or 8 lb groups and reload for all these. I have not done any reloading for the 40 so I am not tied to any bullets in particular.

    Thanks

  6. Sounds like a good place to start. I'm shooting 7.7 3n37 under a MG 124 making 170pf. 5''gun no holes.

Plated should be a bit faster compared to MG.

Ive never shot steel, so its hard for me to guess what a good steel load is.

Be careful with your crimp, I've seen extremes shotgun all over paper when just slightly over crimped

Thanks for the info on over crimping I will back mine off. This is just a trail for the bullets to see how my gun likes them. And to try and get the cobwebs out of the gun and me.

  7. Ok I am dusting of the old girl and going to start shooting again .. YEA. I am going to start at a local steel match and was wondoring if this would be an Ok starting point of a load. I have used to shoot Montana Gold 124s on 3n37. But for this application I am going to be using extreme 115's and was wondering if about 7.2-7.5 of 3n37 would be good or is there a better place to start? I also use to play before the PF was dropped to 165 for major for USPSA. I do know I will most likely need to re spring, no biggie. Just want a good functioning load. The gun is running a Nowlin 38 super with Nowlin comp no other holes then the comp. The gun only has about 2500 rds on it.

    Thanks

    Matt

  8. I have a 2011 open gun and my beloved XDm. Like stated above the shooter has more to do with it. IF the gun is accurate and reliable I think it will stand pretty close. I would say the 2011 my last a little longer, and you will get a better trigger on the 2011. Very close battle, in my hands (if I had a 2011 limited gun) I think I would shoot about the same as I would with my XDm. In a pros, I think the same thing.

  9. Ok I am sure this has been hashed over across all of time and eternity and if so I do appoligize. So let me tell you all what I want to do and I think I have my list if there is anything missing please shout it out. all opinions are welcome and encouraged.

The Gun .40 S&W XDm 4.5 ( I use to shoot open and still have my opwn gun, just want to start playing with limited as I can not shoot nearly as much as I use to)

    Magwell (Dawson ice)

Mag extensions (Dawson or Canyon Creek at least 3 but working up to all 6)

    Font fiber optic sight (Dawson)

Trigger Job (dither Rich and Canyon Creek ro a drop in PRP)

Maybe rear sights not sure if I need ajustable (please offer advice hear)

I think that about covers the gun, than I will tak any suggestions on to to expensive holster and mag pouches. I have the ones for my SV but they seam a little big.

Since I just dont have all the cash to lay out in what order would you start on parts.

    Thank you in advance

    Matt

  10. Ok I know you all have read and probably answered a lot. I have done a lot of searching and still have a few questions so I figured I would ask. I have a new XDm in .40 that I want to start shooting major with, and was wondering what loads you all recommend. Lead vs Plated/jacketed and what powder you like best. I know what I like in my 38 super and 45 but have no clue where to start the new platform. Also if you use a lighter load for practice I would like to know what that is as well.

    Thanks

    Matt

  11. Matt,

Obviously I'm not certain about exactly how you're going to use the setup, but I'll throw this out there. Most drop leg/thigh hoslters seem to be designed by folks who haven't used them. They put the gun way too far down towards your knee and it's going to move and flop around as you walk/hike/hunt. If you have to run or jump it gets even worse. I tell folks that show up with them to cut off the top strap, raise the hanger section as high as it will go, and secure it there. At that point it puts the gun where the top of the gun/holster is somewhere around belt level or lower....even better if it's from the middle of the belt down. Not being a tall guy I don't have much room to wear a belt holster when I wear body armor so I ordered a Blade-Tech dropped and offset "duty holster" with their retention device (which is pretty nice). It puts the gun just low enough that there's no problem getting to it while wearing body armor, but shouldn't get in the way of something like the fanny pack setup you have. If you don't think that will work for you, their tactical thigh holster is better than many out there as the straps aren't so huge and thick as to prevent you from going with a shorter drop.

Thanks for the info. I am with you on the height thing. I just wanted it a little low. I will check this out.
