  1. I saw the pics and I predict the sight will be the open sight of the future Probably be expensive until economy of scale kicks in.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat . It looks great and puts the 90 degree mount out of business. It also shows C-more they need to do something or lose our market

  2. Level I classifiers are important at local matches. Most of us would want the correct score recorded.

Every stage matters at every match level....

I did not mean that other stages do not matter at local matches.

  3. I'm with the OP here. Just what is the "official" responsibility of a person just taping targets? Does anyone have the authority to question a target's scoring?

9.6.4 Any challenge to a score or penalty must be appealed to the Range

Officer by the competitor (or his delegate) prior to the subject target

being painted, patched, or reset, failing which such challenges will not

    be accepted.

9.6.5 In the event that the Range Officer upholds the original score or penalty

and the competitor is dissatisfied, he may appeal to the Chief Range

Officer and then to the Range Master for a ruling.

Doesn't this really apply to the shooter or competitor? If I or my delegate does not agree as the targets are scored. Does not really apply to someone pasting.

I do agree with "Whoa" :)

  4. New as in not a master level, and yes the scoring was NOT correct. (I do know how to score and I do score our matches) I wasn't the only one who saw the errors. My question is more to the point of what is the basis if you do see this error. Do you have the right to question a score that is not on your target?

In a Level II or III match, wrong scoring affects everyone. Having been an RO/CRO with some experience, I can say 2 alphas when I should have said 2 Cs. It happens. I try to be 100% correct, but sometimes shadows, sun, or to many pasters can play tricks on you. So, yes you should identify or "ask" about scoring that does not appear correct. Level I classifiers are important at local matches.

Most of us would want the correct score recorded.

  5. Exactly as BB pointed out. If you see what you perceive as wrong scoring--Ask the RO for clarification. Local matches are great matches to learn as you can take a few extra minutes to answer questions.

  6. I am currently using a Lee U Die (40S&W) in station 1 of my 550. It seems to be rough on the press and the handle sticks on the upstroke. I assume its the narrower case stuck on the powder funnel. For this reason I was considering a Redding GRX push through die to use on my single stage press. Does anyone have the same issue with the EGW die? I know they are really Lee dies.

The u dies definitely make the press harder to work. If you use case lube--not so hard.

  7. You need to measure the length of the barrel to where it ends in the comp.

That is a LOT of comp hanging off the barrel. I'm not quite sure about the barrel holes as they look off to the side? If both sides of the barrel had those holes?

Pretty sure it will take a LOT of powder to make major which will narrow your powder choices.

Is the gun nose heavy, looks like it would be.

If this is your first open STI gun--I would shy away from it unless you get it for some awesome low price and consider re-barrel with newer style comp. A new barrel and comp fitted is probably going to run $500-700. I would also go to 9 Major unless your wallet is pretty fat.

  8. Eric,

I have been following new powders hitting the market and so far not any seem to be for 9 Major.

Autocomp is liked by a lot of folks, but I did not like the feel.

It would be great if several of the manufacturers got behind development for 9 Major. A clean and soft powder like N105 would be great (If the case was not overflowing)..

  9. The cylinder is from a model 327(a light weight version of the stainless 627) that is made to shoot .357 magunum loads. Check the published pressures of .357 loads to those pressures w/9 major.

9 major is not permitted in USPSA except for Open division.

Rule please to support your statement.

  10. I would check with whoever did the conversion. They will know what the wall thickness is on the chamber after the conversion.

I did check with the smith who did the conversion--9 major can be shot in the Ti cylinder.

  11. We need a little help to make sure Sunday runs smooth and we are not shooting with flashlights. :goof: So a few volunteers are needed to change squads. We need the squads to be 11 or less. We have several squads with 12 and 13. If your willing-please email me to change squads. lcstarost @ gmail.com.

Start time for Sunday is 9 AM (Club Rules). Start time for Saturday is 8 AM.

Squad 306 has 13 Need two volunteers

Squad 302/303 have 12 Need one from each squad.

I will be posting a Division count for the match soon.

  12. There is an old saying "IF it ain't broke-Don't fix it" Having said that:

I would think the objective is to get an open gun running 100% of the time. An AFTEC is a great choice and can be installed by just about any novice. If you install the 38/9 AFTEC--You need to run 38SC brass only. Installing only requires a little radius on the firing pin stop (very easy to do). The nice thing about AFTECs--You don't have to fiddle with the tension and you don't have to pay $$$ to a smith to tune your extractor.

    All my 1911/2011 have AFTECs.

  13. I'm getting the drift you would condone shooting the blocks out to open the ports? Tell me I'm wrong or did I miss something?

I certainly would not condone shooting the blocks out, but I need a rule to support a DQ. 10.6.1 would probably work, 10.4.6 would not (assuming the shooter isn't moving per the definition in the USPSA rulebook.)

 When does movement start and stop according to the USPSA rulebook? How did the shooter get to the position of shooting the blocks out?

  14. What if the shooter isn't moving?

his finger moved! He had to move to get the gun in position. Don't over devil it....

    Surely you jest.

You gonna DQ a guy for a late (or early) shot during a transition between two targets because he was "moving?"

see my later post......never said that or implied it as you stated your question, but if your late (or early) shot a wall 6 inches before the port opening or the end of the wall----what target are you engaging ? What do you call that shot or action?

  15. Movement . . . . . . . . . . . .Taking more than one step in any direction, or changing
body position (e.g. from standing to kneeling,
    from seated to standing etc.)

It would be a stretch to say finger movement is the same...

I was being somewhat of a smartass about the finger movement. You had to move to position the gun to shoot at the object. Your moving!

Negative, you could have stood still from the start position, drawing is not considered movement.

Could you point me to the rule that states that?
