  1. I used to assume this wasn't a reshoot. I then watched a member of my squad...at the Nationals...open a door to some targets that weren't pasted. He paused and pointed this out to the RO during his run. The RO didn't stop him, so the shooter then continued. After the cof, the Range Master was called. Troy granted a reshoot.

It is crystal clear that the cof was not presented to the shooter in the same manner as everyone else. It is also crystal clear that the presentation disrupted how the shooter shot. This wasn't an act of Mother Nature, it was a failure to ensure an equitable presentation of the cof to the shooter. That isn't under the shooter's influence.

    Reshoot.

I am not smart enough to quote 2 posts at the same time, but if you read post #5 and this post from Flex it would appear that even at the Nationals this situation is not handled consistantly. Has anyone posed this to NROI for a ruling?

  2. Are they a legal target and if so how do you avoid scoring problems within USPSA rules?

They are not a Popper (no calibration zone) so it would seem that they would fall under the scoring rules of plates.

4.3.1.6 Unlike Poppers, metal plates are not subject to calibration or calibration

challenges. If a scoring metal plate has been hit but fails

to self-indicate, fall, or overturn, the Range Officer shall declare

range equipment failure and order the competitor to reshoot the

course of fire, after the faulty plate has been rectified.

How do you avoid the potential for reshoots when a low hit with a light bullet does not knock it over? Is there something I am missing or is using them in a USPSA match as problematic as I fear?

  3. The plastic ammo boxes are indeed an opaque blue. This is a stronger, more flexible material. The plastic supplier calls it "NoBreak".

We filled a 45ACP box with ammo, and dropped it from the top of the stairs (2nd floor) to the concrete floor- No damage to the box, and the latch stayed closed. We feel this is a superior product to offer.

Any chance you could offer both the "NoBreak" and the translucent, maybe call them the "classic", as I prefer the see through material as well.

  4. That is a broad question, but I will try to answer it...all new Glock magazines are drop free and FML (full metal lined). 17rd 9mm magazines will work in any 9mm Glock, just as 15rd 40cal magazines will work in any 40cal Glock. *Most* new Glock magazines are redesigned to work with the newest Glock lowers that use an ambidextrous magazine release.

Is there something more specific that you are looking to find out?

Thank you, I should have provided more information. Specifically, will 9mm Mags from a G34 fit a G17?

    Thanks

    Yes

  5. I'm kinda close to Missouri so I'm kinda one of those Show Me kinda guys.

I will have to take the calipers or a mike to a small pistol primer and to a small rifle primer and measure the cup thickness.

I will also have to try my hand at measuring the large pistol primer "height" vs the large rifle "height".

So far NO one yet has said you couldn't stuff a large pistol primer into a say like a .308 case.

    yeah, call me stubborn....

PS: a friend and I were fiddling around with the primer feed plates for the 650 earlier today and I noticed right off the bat that dillon makes just one thickness of plate for both primer sizes, pistol or rifle....

    Hmmn...

I wouldn't use the cup thickness as a valid comparison, it is possible the material they are made of is softer/harder. A friend of mine used small pistol primers in major PF .38 super and got pierced primers and flow into the firing pin channel so I am fairly certain what would happen with SPP in a .223 or LPP in a .308. Trying something like this whether it be to prove a point or save a few dollars is foolish in my opinion.

  6. This ruling would make it appear that an approval process requiring documents to be submited started at some point, but how do we access the list?

I am anxious to see Amidon's feedback to Nik.

    NROI Rulings

    Title: STI TRUSight

    Created: 3/29/06

    Updated: 7/31/08

    Effective: 8/07/08

    Rule number: Appx D2 Spec

    Applies to: Pistol

    Ruling authority: John Amidon

    Status: Released

    Question

Has the STI TruSight been approved for Limited/Limited 10 division?

    Ruling

Yes, NROI has received the proped documentation that this model has reached the requirments. It is legal in Limited/Limited 10 divisions in a 5" .40S&W caliber only.

  7. It would seem that airborn is good to go....

10.2.1 A competitor who fires shots while any part of their body is touching

the ground or while stepping on an object beyond a Shooting Box or a

Fault Line, or who gains support or stability through contact with an

object which is wholly beyond and not attached to a Shooting Box or

Fault Line, will receive one procedural penalty for each occurrence.

However, if the competitor has gained a significant advantage on any

target(s) while faulting, the competitor may instead be assessed one

procedural penalty for each shot fired at the subject target(s) while

faulting. No penalty is assessed if a competitor does not fire any shots

    while faulting.

  8. Do you care to explain why you would even consider such a thing? By shooting it the way you describe you will still be at the bottom of the results and have an almost zero chance of ever improving. Not to mention what everyone else will think of you for not even trying.

  9. Depends on the match. Around here all we have to work with are pistol bays. I got by with a 9mm Mech-Tech carbine attachment on my Glock 17 for almost 2 years before I decided I "needed" an AR. I've still never shot a match where I really needed it, although I hope to make it down to Corpus some day at least! It's more about the cool factor at the moment and I apparently felt I wasn't spending enough on ammo. :roflol:

Mike, sunday the 24th we are gonna shoot carbines about 9:30, be 5 stages, short, quich and nasty. Or we are haveing 3 gun the 31st. Like to see you here.-----------Larry

I'll be at the TX State Limited the 24th. 31st...maybe. Ya'll have a email list I can get on? I've been wanting to get down there. I need to get that AR out and see if I can hit anything past 100 yards sometime!

Mike, on their website http://www.cbshooters.com/ click on the Contact button and you will see a link to join the mailing list.

  10. Coleman 4H Classic (not a legal USPSA stage though) 20 targets in your face speed shoot.

Stage No: 5 Back to Basics

Place Name No. Class Division Points Penalties Time Hit Factor Stage Pts Stage %

    1 Walker, Toby 32 M Open 196 0 8.80 22.2727 200.0000 100.00%

  11. The paper that came with it, naturally cautions against using primed cases or loaded rounds. HOWEVER, when you get a look at it, you will see that the face of the ram is so wide, that there is little chance of that ram detonating a primer. Very little pressure is required to resize the case. The actual die he is using is a Lee Factory Crimp Die.

    Mark K

You had better think this one through again.......loaded cartridge inside of gizmo, neck of case held tight against bullet, ram insuring that the primer stays in place......oh yea, some debris of any type on the ram that sets off the primer. Best case the bullet releases with probably higher pressure than in a firearm, worst case you have just created a bomb.

  12. Okay, Chuck's in denial. I noticed today I'm down to a quarter tank in the 350 diesel and I'm going to have to spend $100 to fill the tank soon.... <_<

......and most of the stupid pumps around here still shut off at $75, gotta reset to fill up  .

  13. Ok, let me throw this out there. If I am shooting at a major match and my Revo (S&W 610 shooting major with .40's) craps out, could I replace it with my 686 in .357 if I made power factor and finish the match? I dont have the money for a second 610 at this point in my life :angry2: Just wondering, and thanks for the input.

    Jon

No, you would also be changing the caliber of ammunition.

What is the rule number that says you can't change caliber.

This is what I found "The competitor’s replacement handgun and its appropriate

ammunition must be chronographed per Rule 5.6, regardless of

whether or not the original handgun was previously tested."

  14. WOW :surprise:

That is quite a thread with some great benches and ideas.

I think I am going to end up building my own bench with 2x4 and plywood.

How tall should I build the work surface to work and load standing up? I will be using the 650 with strong mount and I am about 6' 4"

I am 6'2" and built my bench top at 38"(650 with strong mount). It is the perfect height for me to view into the cases as well as comfort reloading while standing.

  15. Has anyone tried the Possum trimmer ? Does it work as well as the Gracey or Giraud ? By as well I mean repeatable accuracy ?

You should find someone who will let you try their Giraud and see what quality of a job it does, and with ease and speed. Be sure you have funds ready to purchase one though as you will most likely be ruined to it at that point :D .

  16. I recently worked up and chronographed some loads with 147g bullets in a G34 and while testing them and comparing to my load with 125g bullets I thought they shot softer by a large margin. The next match I shot I started with the 147s and about half way through ran out and started topping off and refilling empty mags with the 125s (in no particular order, just all mixed up). What I realized was that while focused on executing a plan for the stage and shooting by reading the sights I never noticed any difference in the way the gun performed. Now I am not recommending that you mix your loads up as I did but I am suggesting that if your fundamentals are good the load probably won't make much difference.

  17. When you go to the page that this link leads to, there is a pdf application to the right of the Steel Challenge Logo.

I'm guilty of making the same mistake I was complaining about... being vague. Sorry.

Where is the match, not the application. Somewhere in California?

Looks like Piru California........the match release covers that range anyway.
