  1. I'm very interested to see if this works as I am going another direction with my shotgun. I want to use 00 buckshot with as little recoil as I can get. Have never tried any of the reduced recoil rounds but would think those would kind of void the purpose of the buckshot. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  2. Do let us know how it works especially if you try a heavy buffer. I modify just about everything my self. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  3. A regular buffer won't work. I wondered about a heavy buffer version as well helping take recoil. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  4. Would love to see pictures oh how you folks have your guns setup. Opening those ports sure did make my gun handle lower powered rounds, I did take all my mags apart and clean them up and bevel the followers edges as well as the promag drums - those was rough. I would love to get hold of one of the wind up ak mags and work on a new drum that can be but wound up when needed. Oh and Ill grab some pics of my charging handle later on, it ended up looking alot like the tacom version but is probably bigger. I cover it with heat shrink to add a little grip to it aswell, works good to get a fast grip.
  5. Here is a link to all the few photos I have uploaded on the vr80. VR80 pictures.
  6. Gas port 1 Gas port 2 The thumb rest has a section of rail attached with m-loks and they hit the compensator and wont allow me to remove the rail unless I remove the comp Thumb rest Forearm grip with thumb rest The bottom rail I added to be able to mount what ever under the shotgun. Drilled and taped 2 sections of rail. I also modded the kydex heat shield to allow room for my other rail sections. I hope this helps, I'm not very good a photos and the photo size is so small I have to upload the pics to my site for the links.
  7. My wife will kill me if I go to take it apart again tonight lol Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  8. I'll try to remember next time I break it down to grab some. But it's just the three holes opened up with the #29 drill bit. The holes was very small to start with, the #29 drill bit about doubled my hole size. I've got several things I've done to my gun that does make it a Hassel to break down. And can't take the handguard completely off Easley. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  9. One thing tho was it seemed to have a little more recoil even with the lighter loads. I may try to test it with the heavy gas piston. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  10. I didn't measure to start with once I seen they was do small. I just opened the up with #29 today. Shot 20 rounds of dome 1200 fps and it ran great except for one looked like s light primer strike. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  11. Well I have shot 220 rounds of 1 1/8 oz 1500 fps threw my gun and it still would not function with anything lower than 1350 fps so I checked my gas ports and they was small, very small so I opened it up with a #29 drill bit. hope to get some shooting time in this week and see what it does. I am using the light gas piston. On a good note with 2 20 round drums, 2 10 round mags and 2 five round mags I only had 1 issue and it was a 1200fps round that got mixed up in the mag, 1 user error as I short cycled the charging handle once. Recoil is mild considering its a 12 gauge and what I am shooting but this is the first semi shotgun I have ever fired. No shoulder bruising at all to speak of lol
  12. I just wish I could find a factory trigger, disconnecter and safety barrel to try and see what I can do with the factory parts. Extras in case I mess up. I don't understand the tail on the disconnecter, served no purposes and looks way touch like a m16 disconnector for me. I am going to mod the safety detent to be like the ar15 as I hate that little ball lol but that is mainly for ease of disasemby. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  13. If all else fails put the barrel in your refrigerator or frezzer over night and get s tourch to heat the piston whole bumping it with plastic hammer. Cold well shrink metal and heat will expand. Use to install ak barrels this way by hand. I bet it's just heavy carbon build up tho. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  14. She must have made a mistake as she said it was fine. There sending me a heavy piston. And the fellow I talked to said don't try to break it in with the heavy piston unless I'm shooting 3 inch shells Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  15. I use brake parts cleaner and wd40 to break up the carbon build up and scrub it clean work the piston a little at a time as you clean, maybe light taps with s soft mallet. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  16. Got a estimate from benny hill today on the barrel porting. I just cant get over how flat your gun shoots, thats nice.
  17. to see what will and wont work in a vr80 from an ar15 I went ahead and gave it a try. the hammer and trigger pins are the basic same size, still need to check the length.- didn't have any ar pins laying around but will get some. the vr80 pins fit very well in a spare ar hammer and trigger I had laying around. the trigger is so close I think it will work but the vr 80 disconnecter was to thick to fit my are trigger. the disconnecter is differ and a ar trigger, disconnecter wont work with the vr80 hammer. The ar hammer is to wide to short and just not long enough on the firing pin side. the selector is all together different size and the selector de tent is on the opposite end. Just got board and thought I would see what would and wouldn't work. My wife had a stay in the hospital and just got out so I have some work to catch up on this week and will try to keep us this break in process and tinkering. Its only been a single shot so far but man I love this gun and will get it all worked out. Hope we can revive this following on the vr80 and really get it going again. Soon as I can I want to experiment with making a double stack magazine for it but that may take a while. Got a good friend who has a full machine shop and that helps lol.
  18. Well it looks like you should be withen the break in period that armscor sent me last week. They had a old break I'm that said at least 500 rounds of 2 3/4 , 3 dram shotshell with a minimum of 1250 fps with 1 1/8 oz shot. You still on the factory recoil spring? If so back out the buffer tube about 3 turns. I hope someone will chime in and offer more help, a armscor told me to use the heavy gas piston and shoot about 200 high brass before trying light loads and right now I've got about 100 rounds of single shots threw mine. They didn't send me a heavy gas piston yet lol. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  19. You using the heavy or light load gas piston? Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  20. If anybody has any factory parts from a vr80 like fcg and safety's they want to sell give me a yell. I want to see how good of a trigger I can get with factory parts and need a few extra encase I go to far lol. I dont see those parts available from ria yet.
  21. I just order the VR80 ULW Muzzle Brake and will see how it does first, I just cant see porting doing much with the lack of pressure a shotgun has but there is no denying how flat the muzzle stayed in the video.
  22. And that was Benny hill at ? That ported your barrel? Would you measure the size of the holes and spacing? And there are 8 holes correct? Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  23. Wow that is impressive. Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
  24. hogue overmolded, this is where I got mine. https://www.wingtactical.com/firearm-parts/ar-15/grips-foregrips/pistol-grips/hogue-overmolded-ar-15-rubberize-grip/
  25. Will ar15 anti walk pins work in the vr80 or is there anybody who makes them yet? I would much rather have that setup as the splined hammer pin that I an sure will wear out some over time.
