Got a Tac Ultra 9mm last week. Stripped the whole thing down and scrubbed it and polished stuff up. Threw it in the ultra sonic cleaner and it got all the grit and oil off of it. Feels like a new gun! I had a few extractor issues after a couple hundred rounds, but I tensioned it a bit and it's ran flawlessly since. Pretty happy so far. I have a hayes magwell and grips coming soon.
I'm not sure about the rear sights, but they're nice enough so I probably won't mess with them for awhile.
Those are excellent guns for the money. I own one and did the HCG package with Hayes. Pics are somewhere in this forum. Hayes takes it to a new level.
The rear sights are the only thing that I was not completely happy with but they do the job.

There is a Glock cult out there. Gun enthusiasts like it because of price, reliability, accessibility , replacement of parts that can improve the gun overall, etc.
Glocks pistols run and run with minimum maintenance..my point is, STI has a tough road ahead.

I am curious to see if you decide to send it to SVI what would be the response.

If I went custom which company does everyone recommend?
As you see we all have our preferences. Atlas, Phoenix Trinity honcho. You will not go wrong with neither. Let us know which route did you take.

Hello everyone. I am looking to purchase a new 2011 for competition and was looking at STI. I would not like to spend more than $4000. I know the custom route is an option. I was looking into the DVC Limited, the new Staccato XL, A DVC 3 gun or maybe the combat master. I would have it chambered in 9mm. I would like to use it for IDPA and USPSA. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you and I hope to hear from everyone.
If your budget is $4000 I will go the custom route. I do not disagree with the previous comments about STI. At the end you are paying, your money...your decision.

Phoenix Trinity has been able to put a Honcho race shop that has received a lot of attention from shooters. A lot of positives comments on this forum related to that. Something to consider I guess. Thanks for the pics..enjoy!!

Read the title of the thread : asking for OPEN gun preferences. You don't shoot an Open gun. When someone asks LIMITED gun prefs, we'll take a mental note that you like Atlas. Until then....
Back to the original question. Like RGC, I also ordered a Honcho (9 and 38 SC). If it shoots as well as my other Open guns that were significantly more money, the pricing structure of Open guns will be heavily scrutinized
That’s why I came to this forum to learn. Thanks for teaching me Sir...Uff

Your made the comment that Atlas is "way cheaper than SVI" . Atlas custom base is 6900.
I own neither SVI or Atlas guns. Do you even shoot Open?
Do not take it personal please, that is and was never my intention.
It is just a personal preference. I know that Atlas open are not cheap. I don’t own one because of that reason.
I don’t shoot open. I shoot limited because that is what I can do. Once you get to the open class, prices are very competitive/high. I am not there yet. -

Really curious to see what you have to sell once you get out of classified purgatory.
And by the way, the prices of Atlas open guns are easily north of 8K these days. Pass
We all have preferences right? The same way you pass others may not.

I picked up mine today. Cleaned it and then went to the range. I tested some 6 different kinds of ammo and had zero jams or FTF's. Fun little gun.
Ammo Tested:
Eley Force
CCI Standard Velocity
CCI Clean Red (1235 FPS)
CCI Clean Black (1070 FPS)
Aguila Super Extra(1255 FPS)
SK Standard Plus
If you do not mind asking...low 400 or high 300 ? What are you using it for? Is it your first 22 and is there a big difference that would make Glock 44 stand out? I am trying to convince myself here..lol

DLC. I like the look of hard chrome also but seeing the scratches would drive me crazy. So DLC.

I’m not an SV guy and never will be but I have handled and shot a few of them. Very few guns even come close to the overall quality, feel, etc.
I have never shot them, but you have to agree that for the price....i better get an "alien pistol"..hold..that is here already.

Oh, I know. SV even tells you what powder to run in your reloads. Just turn a mobile one jug upside down after changing your oil. There will be enough in the cap to oil your gun all year and it works better than most.
I like your sense of "realism". LOL

If you mean "SPS copied STI when they didn't get a European patent", then yes. Otherwise, no.
It makes sense. That is why the similarity in some pistols.

If budget allows, infinity svi open are just incredible. looks and build to match. you won't be disappointed!
Lots of GOOD opinions on this subject. Why SVI when you can get an Atlas way sooner for way less money? Atlas is an amazing company with excellent products, reliable and the best...CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SECOND TO NONE....Am I biased? Yeah...Atlas Gunworks.

I always like STI but the idea of going against Glock, which is the main supplier of LEO agencies not only nation wide but world wide too, is going to be tough for STI.
Like Sarge mentioned...for way less money and a lot more reliable, one word GLOCK.

i use trigger with interchangeable shoe . i made 10 different shoes for this to find what form and length is best for me. it can be changed in 20 seconds.
That's a pretty good idea. Thanks

Thanks. I prefer the look and size of the two port. Glad it’s popular and works well.
Is there a big difference as far as recoil and feel between the 2 and 3 ports?

Good to know because reality is that THEY LOOK PRETTY GOOD!!

The company has been run by idiots for a long time, starting with Skinner and Kimble 20+ years ago. The innovation was gone when Sandy, then Virgil, left the company. And from there, it was just a long, slow, and steady decline. Firearms are pretty simple from a manufacturing standpoint. Anyone with decent brain function and basic business skills should have been able to run that company and realize a healthy profit doing so. But the people in charge were/are utterly clueless.
That is common on some companies in today's world...sad.

A good gun will run on any oil.
Yes Sir that is correct. I ask because certain company(ies) advise to use specific oil(s) which I found interesting.

I see it as a sign of confidence from PT.
They are like ...you can put whatever oil my pieces are always going to work. I like that
Traditional fiber front (Dawson) vs Manny Dot

I know you are comparing the Dawson vs. Manny dots, but if you are not completely satisfied, look into the Robert Vogel sights. It made a big difference to me as far as acquiring targets faster vs. Dawson's sight.
Another option.
