I was thinking more like 60.

When I started shooting revo I was told I wasn’t allowed to because I was under 30. However, I was granted a waiver because I groan reflexively when leaving a seated position.

To get this back on track though, has anyone got a good method of dry firing a swinger?

I'm way out east, where there's very little ICORE within driving range, so mostly at USPSA matches:

    1. Battle for the North Coast (staff day)

    2. Possibly the Mitten Match in Brooklyn, MI (sold as a locap one; might make the drive even if I don't play staff)

3+. ??? I'm hoping to staff one more major, but we'll see what options are open. With no Western PA Section match this year, that knocks one obvious contender off the list.

Pretty sure East Coast Regional is close to you... if you wanna shoot ICORE.

I tend to clean the functional areas and maybe the outside of the gun but just accept that the area around the barrel inside the frame will forever be filthy, because if I spend 30 min to get it really clean it will be dirty again after the first moon clip.

I know that, everyone knows that. But I can’t stop cleaning it. I does nothing, yet still I clean. Please send help.

I'm using plated bullets, and am assuming that since this revolver has less than 1k rounds, that lock up should be correct, don't know about cylinder/forcing cone measurement tho. where can I look up the dimensions for a 929?

I’ve found that plated does nothing, in fact it was slightly dirtier relative to my .358 coated bullets.

Sub 2 is possible. I’d think a consistent 2.25-2.5 in matches would be enough to win anything.

You saying last shot to first shot of the new cylinder?

Shooting classic last-to-first in A class I can manage a 2.4-2.8 pretty easy.

The biggest issue IMO is getting everyone out. If you’re limp on the extractor and you get one that doesn’t eject, or worse, under the star...

Another hot take: Cut down comp IIIs aren’t faster. They do load more consistently and the rounds don’t get caught up in the plunger as much, if ever.

You can even see some blood on that uncut TK release.

Oh good, it’s not just me.

Would you happen to have a Houge long take you can take a photo with to compare Houge short and TK with? I’m curious to have a side-by-side-by-side.

I understand the turning the muzzle left and have ran into that problem. Which results in twisting the body to the right. So when you start your reload, you keep the gun more in a vertical shooting position instead of rolling it into a more horizontal position to get the cylinder open?

No, he just opens the cylinder and throws the new moon in from afar like a witch.

Not trying to blow too much smoke up his skirt but even at 0.25 speed it’s still very hard to see everything.

I know it's an old post, but on the topic of shaving lead...

We have topics that are ten years old get dragged up so two months is nothing.

This might work for me but I’m on a 550 so unless I combined seat and crimp I’m SOL.

I got one of the uniquetek funnels that was recommended. Didn’t do dip.

  8. From the Ruger instruction manual: “The 10MM GP100® will function, and has been tested, with 40 S&W caliber ammunition, but may misfire (fail to fire) with some commercial ammunition. For this reason, Ruger does not recommend the use of 40 S&W ammunition in this revolver.”

But again, I’m hijacking your thread. I was just giving a heads up that you might have a headache inbound. But anything with tuning a Revo for competition is potential headache territory.

Intel6, do you know if the 929 uses the Small Extractor tool or the large one?  Its an N Frame revolver.

It’s a large one. K/L/N have nothing to do with it unfortunately. A 66-8 and 66-2 have different extractor sizes despite being K’s.

I use a clothespin with a vice and it works better TBH. But, tool or no tool, load up the cylinder with used brass to take the stress off the star.

To add my two cents: I’ve found that the round that does not freely rotate inside of the moon clip will cause the TK checker to fail the moon. Pop that non-freewheeling round(s) out and you’ll get a passing moon. So that is to say that it’s all about the brass’s rim. Your undersized die will do nothing! (In my experience).

Clays/ClayDot works well.  Titegroup will too but gets a little dirty at the lower pressures for lower PF.

Try to find some lighter bullets for steel/icore than 200.

I've used 175/185's at 700 f/s for Steel ICORE, can even use it for USPSA since most likely you'll be the only one at the match with a Revolver.  So who is to complain?

I've also had real good luck with the button nose swc's and even the h&g68 type from Acme in my Revolver.  There's not much shoulder and the coating makes it slide into the cylinder pretty good.

I mean I might complain if you went to a USPSA classifier match on purpose with powderpuff loads yet claimed major. But the new ones really need 8 and the old ones are all “shot out” as us crumb-bums say so probably no harm.

  11. So I don’t load 45 Revo but an ICORE load at 125 PF with a 200 gn is 625 fps. I’d argue that it would be light enough for steel and your outlaws. Certainly not many powders will work that slow; I’d assume you’d be stuck using trail boss. Probably too light for pins.

If you’re going to get a 929 eventually for USPSA, don’t bother with an additional load. Shoot 6 minor. You’ll get the practice you want without a bunch of different loads. But perhaps thats me; I wouldn’t want 4 loads for one gun.

If they made an 8-round 9mm Rhino, I might have gone with that as a competition gun for the ultimate hipster factor, but alas—I emailed them back in 2017 or 2018, and they said they didn't have any plans for an 8-round gun at that time.

Total non-sequitor but two Chiappa shooters were at the 2019 IRC (speaking in Italian and everything!). Perhaps an in person plea might help.

I know nothing of the internal workings of Ruger but I’d be surprised if the IRC survey from 2018 had no factor in the genesis of the Super GP100.

Huge thanks to all of you in this thread and this subforum—the tips and tricks I've been gleaning helped me get to a match performance I'm moderately proud of a year or two faster than I would have done if I had to work everything out from first principles.

So looking at your video I’d recommend holding the gun with the open cylinder parallel with your body. That way, you are only getting the X and Y components when lining up your moon to the cylinder. Holding it at a angle requires you get the Z component down pat. YMMV but I think it would be worth it to spend a week dry firing this way.
