  1. I know what you mean about not shooting so well since becoming an RO. I t has and is happening to me, but there is an upside. First, being an RO means I have read the rulebook and can advocate when I think that the rules are not correctly applied. Second, RO and setting up matches gained me an understanding of the course design that would take much longer to gleen if I was just a shooter. I too like going to another club and just shooting, but I am not capable of just watching when the RO needs help and none is available. Thanks to you for being an RO!
  2. At least you tape. I know shooters that seem allergic to taping or resetting a target. Brother, your heart is in the right place and that is what counts.I hope your calf mends well.
  3. I would love to be able to buy a pair of sunglasses off the rack. I am 48 and still do not need reading glasses( when not looking through my prescription that is) I can see the computer screen OK but can't see well past that. I know my eyes can be corrected for distance. What I am concerned with is losing the front sight. What input do any of you have on this subject? thanks. John
  4. I have seen and experienced this. I take the shot, look for the bullet holes in the target and move to the next target. A real slow, safe way to shoot. At one Idpa match we were shooting at a 20 yard cardboard target, me with the 9mm. Well the 9mm makes tiny holes, hard to see. For some reason I engaged the target and just BELIEVED that when the sight picture was right when I broke the shot, looking for the bullets would not make it a bit of difference. I always knew that this was a step to shooting faster, but I was afraid of not hitting the target. I now KNOW that if the sight picture is right when the shot breaks, the bullet holes are there, and that looking for them does nothing for my score/time/accuracy. It is about piercing the tough membrane between what you know and what you believe. Congrats on the steel plate and keep it up and post your progress.
  5. Bug Splats? That is awesome!!!!!!!!!
  6. I have a drill that I can do while in the car, no gun(of course) While on the freeway I pick out a vehicle in front of me in traffic, then I look to another, not just glance but look at it, then move to another and so on. Not a quite a stare, but more than a skim. Each move is deliberate and I try to speed up the looking AND the transformation between cars. I go left right, right left, near far, import/domestic, combos are endless. It works for me, I believe that I am seeing faster now with more purpose, and time in traffic is not wasted.
  7. My first breakthrough came when I could consistently see the front sight rise and fall. How empowering it was, but......... Then I was afraid to let the front sight go. I held onto it like a drowning man holds onto a life vest. I KNEW i was suppose to look to the next target, and then bring the sights over. I KNEW this was how it was suppose to be done, but I wouldn't let go... til my last trip to the range. I made myself do it and to my surprise, I shot faster and compromised accuracy not one bit. You can read about it, hear about it, but until it happens you can not believe it. I am so happy for me!
  8. Is a glock with an aftermarket slide with front slide serrations legal for any division. Would skateboard tape on the front of the slide be a legal mod?
  9. I was really pulling for Pete to win, but clearly the best man won. Congrats Iain!
  10. I have the 125 LRN from Black Hills and find that they must be loaded to 1.09 OAL in order for them to chamber in any barrel, XD, Glock, CZ. It makes me nervous as I can not find any load data to support loading that short, ( increase in case pressure) I called Black Hills and they basically said, don't worry about the length, just load to 125 LRN data available. I would love to find something in print to support the 1.09 OAL and a load specific to that weight and spec. Thanks
  11. Fred, Thanks!!!! Does it have any load data on Bullseye? Thanks again!!!!
  12. miced them, several, came up with 355 best I can get for length is 1.094 and get them to chamber.
  13. I am using Bullseye. I have loaded some of the 125 LRN Bear Creek and found that they do not seat into the barrel if they are longer than 1.07. This is true in my factory XD barrel, and I tried them for fit in my Jarvis Glock barrel, same result. With the bullet seating further into the case, how much more pressure am I building? I am going to load a few to the 1.07 but well under 4.0 of Bullseye and see if the XD cycles. It just seems odd that the bullet has to be so far under spec to chamber. Can anyone help me? I ran the search function and saw nothing this short listed.
  14. I have never loaded lead projectiles before.I have loaded FMJ. Now that I am loading lead I have a question: Is the overall length going to be the same as a jacketed reload. I know the max is 1.169. I am getting around 1.04, which looks short, but feels right when seating the lead projectile. This is what I am loading: 125 Bear Creek LRN 4.3 Bullseye I know that the closer to the max length the fewer feed problems I will have. So, am I worried about nothing, or do I need to retrench? Thanks!

    Sleep

I have found that I shoot better when I am a little bit tired. Not exhausted, but a bit tired. I am just more relaxed and more go with the flow. Puts the monkey mind at ease. But then i am a little different.
  16. I decided to have the "little talk" with myself right before the RO asked if I was ready. It was a small thing but it yields great results. Owning my success, past, present and future also made me a better shooter/competitor. Expect to succeed and the result should not surprise you. It made the difference for me from being a repetitive shooter and a competitive shooter.
  17. I hope it all works out well, we are all in your corner.
  18. I have experienced this. As a side note I have spent some time as an RO watching many shooters compete. All skills levels. I have seen the very quick, very accomplished run a string with blurring speed and precise jerky movements. almost manic. I have also seen the guy who just shoots so smooth. His shooting just flows. No urgency, just the task at hand. Often when this kind of shooters completes a run, I am surprised by my perception of what I'd expect from the timer and the actual time recorded. The time recorded is always shorter, and very competitive.
  19. Don't listen to that rbgaynor guy, he's a liar!!!!! Seriously, we ran the match and had a blast. Our club just ate it up. Couldn't have done it without Brian and Chuck.
  20. I know a shooter that is a 4 gunmaster. I know he drilled and drilled the classifier. Now he moans about getting beat in his class on a regular basis. THe classifer is a fine measuring stick if you shoot it once a year. Don't get me started on !@#$%^&*() sandbaggers!!!
  21. We would definitely be interested. Let's try to make at leas tone stage revolver neutral and try to make it indoor range frinedly. We really enjoyed the last one. John
