  1. I have to ask, do you leave the gun in a pool of salt water after a range session or how do you make it rust?
  2. I think you posted in the wrong thread.
  3. Ok, this is my first Tanfoglio so I didn´t know that.
  4. Taking a closer look at the "wear mark" it looks a bit too geometric to be a scratch, a circle with a crossed out square below it. Perhaps they laser mark the slides for some strange reason? Doesen´t really matter to me since this is a race gun and will look like one after a couple of seasons.
  5. A few more pics then. I can highly recommend Guga Ribas speed holster and mag holders, they are awesome! The tiny wear mark next to the safety was there when I got it, might have been something against it in the box during the shipping from the dealer. The coating feels very good so it is not a manufacture flaw.
  6. I'll take some more pics of the gun for you, the blue finish looks much better IRL than I thought it would. Sure I could find a bullet and powder combo that makes major without reaming, but since I like 3n38 (plus it is found locally) I'll need to ream it.
  7. I got mine yesterday, a 9mm large frame. It fits my hands just perfect, I thought my Shadow2 was good but the Domina is like molded for my hands! One thing I noticed was that my 29.4mm OAL major loads I use in my Shadow2 open gun wasn't even close to fit the chamber, with 8.0gn 3n38 under a 123gn FP bullet I can't load them shorter than that so I will have to borrow a chamber reamer and open it up a bit. Oh well, I'll just have to shoot minor loads until then.
  8. With my undrilled barrel I should expect 5ish more PF than you with the same load. I tried to chrono the load on the indoor range today but the damn ProChrono Pal I have only reads 1 out of 10 shots and that is if the right planets align. I shot 30 shots over it with different lighting and covers and not a single reading... Next time I'll aim a bit lower and put it out of its misery.
  9. Thanks! I shoot 123gr copper plated LOS flatpoints. What kind of barrel were you using? A friends Tanfoglio with a V10 hybrid barrel gets 10 PF less than I get from this gun with the same ammo. Good to know that I am still on the low side of 165PF, making Major takes 160 so I don´t need to go much higher than 165 in average. A shame that SP2 isn´t readily available around here, the cases didn´t fill up nearly as full with that powder.
  10. I was at the range testing out a 3n38 load today, a 7.2gr load gave only 155PF so after getting back home I have loaded up a batch with 7.5gr powder to get me slightly over 165PF. After some work at the range removing walls and charge lines for the winter I let a friend test shoot the gun with a 165PF SP2 load, it had gotten pretty dark so I took the chance to take some pics of the flames to get an idea how the comp works. Seems to me that it works pretty ok, not much flame coming out the front. I´ve heard that 3n38 can produce pretty large fireballs if loaded hot enough, I will try to get some night photos of the new loads as well. Can anyone recommend a good wear resistant paint for aluminum gun parts? Will a 2k engine block paint work? Duracoat is a tried brand but I don´t like paying an arm and a leg for a tiny can of paint if there are other paints out there which are just as good at decent prices. Cheers! /Anders
  11. I shot 200 rounds at a practice session today and I am more and more impressed with the gun, not a single hiccup except for the occasional trigger finger freeze from the cold weather. The RTS2 sight with its big window is great, very easy to pick up and track the dot compared to the smaller sight I had on it before. A friend has picked up 4kg of 3n38 powder for me today so I will start testing out a good load this week. I hope I can get to 165PF without a severely compressed load, I had like 1mm of air under the bullet with SP2 @ 165PF so I think it will be ok even with 3n38. The big downer right now is that the competition season here is coming to an end, there is an event 500km from here next weekend but I am busy and can´t go. I really would like to shoot a couple of matches with the gun before the winter arrives.
  12. I´ll look into the anodizing stuff, sounds like fun! I went out this morning and finished the sight mount/thumb rest, turned out really good. I used the sight weaver mount, milled it down and welded to a side plate. There are still some finishing touches to do, but I want to shoot it some first to see if I like the angle and placement of the thumb rest. The cut under the second screw is from me sneezing when I cut the plate out on the band saw... Cheers! /Anders
  13. Nope, they'll think it is a Glock now.?
  14. Today when I got back home from work I had a parcel waiting for me with a Cmore RTS2 sight inside! It also included a Tanfoglio sight mount which I hoped would fit the Shadow2 as well, but alas, the frame width was all wrong so I will have to save it for the Domina gun that will arrive some time this winter. The HSS drill I used earlier only dulled itself when I tried to drill the sight mount holes in the frame, but the carbide drill I bought cut like butter and the steam expired M4 tap had no problems with the surface hardened frame. Sweet. I made four m4 holes in the frame and tomorrow I will start milling a one sided mount for the RTS2 sight. It will be sweeeeet! Cheers! /Anders
  15. Thanks! I honestly don't know the exact type of aluminum, it was just a scrap piece I had laying around. I don't think I'll bother anodizing it since the ceramic coating seems to stick to it pretty good. I will leave the dust cover intact, it helps stabilize the compensator. Plus every inch I cut away makes the slide to frame fit sloppier (same radial play but less lenght gives more angular movement) so I imagine an uncut dust cover gives the best precision.
  16. I like to have somewhere to place my left thumb, without a thumb rest I find it more difficult to get a consistent grip.
  17. Thank you, I am very satisfied with it so far. With the IPSC Alex mount I´ve ordered it will be even better since the dot will get much closer to the slide. I am not sure about what thumb rest to use yet, the Tanfoglio Unica adjustable thumb rest looks awesome but I fear I´ll upset some cosmic balance if I add a Tanfo logo to a CZ...
  18. I don´t know yet, haven´t had time to order long springs for them. I´ve been suggested that Tanfoglio springs for Small frame long mags works great.
  19. This sundays job on the S2 was to blend out the slide release which dug into my thumb knuckle and was pretty annoying, now I can´t feel it any more. I also matched the mag well to the frame, the fit was far from good with an edge that the mag lips might hit and get damaged on. No use painting anything since the magwell will look all scratched up anyway after a couple of matches. Finally I cut two standard mags apart and welded up a 170mm mag, I will make another one and order Tanfoglio original mag springs for their small frame long mags. Two of these and two original +2 mags on the rig will be a good setup I think. Cheers! /Anders
  20. Thanks! A friend at the club had half a bottle of SP2 that he didn´t have any use for since he shoots Production nowadays so I bought it from him just to test the gun until I can get my hands on some 3n38.
  21. After making some different charge weight loads I went to the range to chrono them, a 7.2gr load gave 160PF so when I got back home I loaded up a box of 7.4gr ammo for the next range trip. Should get me close to 165PF which is where I want to be. I shot aprox. 100 rounds today, the brass ejected flawlessly and the gun handles really nice. A 7m Bill Drill in 2.5s with a sloppy draw is almost half a second faster than I could do with the Shadow2 in its original state. Cheers! /Anders
  22. I ceramic coated the compensator this morning.
  23. The thought has actually crossed my mind, not quitting my day job but to start small doing customer jobs and see where it goes. I am not sure about the paperwork involved here in Sweden though. Thanks! Without the right tools I would never have started this project, I´d just have ended up with a wrecked gun. Stubborness it the key, spending most of my spare time in the workshop for the last 15 years pays off. A friend has a custom built 2011 9mm Open which shoots really great, but it doesen´t fit my hand for some reason. The Tanfoglio/CZ guns just feel so much better in my small hands. I am just about to sit down and do some reduced charge loads to try to find one that gets me 165PF, might ceramic coat the compensator as well since it seems to work pretty well with the port size and placement. Do it! Nothing is more rewarding than hearing your home built gas turbine spool up for the first time. Trust me on this one.
  24. We have a great little turbine community going with many awesome build threads, check my build thread for the new bike engine out at http://jetandturbineowners.proboards.com/thread/734/building-ju-02-gas-producer Perhaps it is best we continue any jet related discussions in PM to avoid messing up the thread.
