Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. i have a springfield 1911 that i like a lot. i worked on the trigger and got it to 3.5 lb which works very nicely. one time i got creaticve bought a titanium spring and got the pull to 1lb. i went to the range loaded the gun and tried it.. yep fast! all 10 rounds in maybe .7 sec.. full auto...the guy next to me was impresed at how fast i had gotten.. i told him i had been practicing ....I packed up, went home, and put in the other spring. yep 3.5 lb is pretty good. tom
  2. seems clays is a universal favorite.. humm i think i will load a few nundred with this chrono the lead and fmj and shoot them in comparison to the titegroup to see if i can feel any difference in the 625. im currently drasticly lightening the trigger so i might feel the effect. thanks all. tom
  3. from memory, from about last july 10 yd vp was 7.20 down zero using a SW 625- yea 19th century technology but it hits things, draw about 1.1-1.2, reload about 2.4 or so. this was in a day where all i did was this drill, maybe 50 or 60 times.. most times were in the 8-10sec range with a few down. this was the best- right.. so know i know i can do it so excuses evaporate.. any other wheel gunners care to comment and provide a comparison and/or suggestions? tom
  4. i have shot over 20 lb titegroup in 45 acp in my SW- do the aritimetic- and like it obviously. with lead 230 ball i use 4.3 gr and get about 730-745 fps which is nicely in the major power factor range. when using jacketed i recommend checking the specific bullet speed as they seem to change and by a lot. montana gold seems to be pretty close to the lead ball- 720-735 fps- i use for practice and many of the copper jacketed are up to 80 fps slower! for the copper bulets i use 4.6 gr as a result. the power does burn fast and you dont need much so check the reloader from time to time to see if the setting is constant. with the double action pull of the revolver i don't notice much difference in recoil vs other loads though in a 1911 you may i think. other opinions?? tom
