  1. Hey everyone! Just wanted to spread the word on Extremereloadingnv.com and their awesome Remanufactured ammo! Their 115s have been pretty reliable and its helped me cut the cost. And their 147 grains have been running out quick due to their soft recoiling feel, which also comes in at an average 135 pf.  Give it a shot and type in Gatus in the notes section to save a few bucks!

Here's a clip of some test samples and a match run by a Jonathan Rivera

  2. Bill drill after bill drill!

After changing out the spring and adding almost an entire grain to my load, I finally got the open gun tuned.

The main thing that worked for me was the recoil spring change to 7lbs from 9. Less forward dip. But I also credit the 8.2 grains of powder increase and the inward grip clamp I started implementing. The slide just rides back and fourth!

  3. It was training day today. I got to know my gun some more and trained up on irons. I have not shot irons since I got back but I saw some huge improvements. For the year I was off country, I trained up my grip strength because I was not able to shoot.

I noticed a drastice improvement in recoil management and dot tracking. I shot an m&p 9mm and used it to run the first few rounds of two drills; entry/exits and the Accelerator.

  4. Lunchbreak Drill

    Lunch break fire🔥

Working on some dot tracking and shot calling drills. I gave myself the head zone to shoot. Waited on the red dot to return from going up and down then back to center. This drill at 10 yards, 6 shots under 2 seconds is pretty challenging but totally valuable so far.

My road to open division has a lot obstacles but nothing that has made me turn away and dislike it. I like the journey and i love the process. Its become an obsession to find what works and what doesnt.

For this weekend, I wanted to train and get some trigger time with my open gun. I was debating on going to the range and using all the target stands and shooting boxes I built. I also had steel targets I wanted to train on but these local ranges do not allow it. In the end, i decided to shoot a local UPL match. Now my logic was, Im going to treat these stages as an oppurtunity to work on my flaws and weaknesses. I shot a upl match to prep for USPSA.

My plan was to shoot on the move as much as I can, reload effeciently and pay attention to the dot. One thing I did notice about my movement was pcc helped me with my entries and exits. Getting the gun up and ready when entering positions helped my get my shot off more accurately. In the end, i was sent home early due to malfunctions I had to figure out. Long story short, my hammer would not fall and I had to mess with the sear spring. All in all, I am definitely digging open.

After messing with different loads, ive settled with 125 grains of sns coated round nose, and 7.2 grains of cfe. This reaches to 173 pf.

I also had left over 115gr that I have been able to load to reach 168pf.

  6. So, I have been extra inspired lately to finally start my first range diary. A little background about myself; Im currently in the military and I am stationed in Las Vegas. I started practical shooting back in 2017. Because of the military, I have been deployed on and off, too much to get classified in a division. I started in limited, experiemented with open glocks (nightmare), then went into pcc. However, just recently, someone offered to trade my pcc with an old school STI open. It was too good to pass up. And now, I am tuning and getting to know my open gun.

3 months ago, I was stationed in South Korea for a year. I was not able to shoot but I was determined to get better somehow. I bought books on practical training, I worked on my conditioning, with a focus on grip strength. Fast forward to present, after shooting some PCC matches, I saw more fluidity in my motion. I shot some pistol during practice to see where my recoil management was and it was definitely a lot more improved. I also bought a dillon xl650 from all the money I was not shooting away. I got into reloading and was hooked. There was a sense of pride and ownership in the rounds I formulated. Now that I shoot open, it has resparked the creativity and challenge in 9mm major loads.

Fast forward to today, I shot 3 classifiers since being back in country. But, with the trade, that classification will have to wait as well. I was consistently placing around top 10ish with a pcc and will probably be dropping lower when I finally shoot open. Biggest thing i got out of pcc was speed and effecient movement. I hope it translates well into open.

One of the books that have changed my training philosophies is Charlie Perez's Path to Focused Effort. It has revamped how I practice and dryfire. I used to repeat my draws and reloads in dryfire, but drawing and reloading only took up a fraction of a stage's time. I looked at match videos and practiced what I really needed work on. Entries, exits, running to next shooting spots, transitions, calling shots,  and my biggest weakness, shooting on the move. Im even struggling to not shoot a upl match this weekend and practice instead.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I am *this* close to buying an MBX. What handguard is that? Is it a STNGR? Looks good.  Is it slim and feel good too?

This is actually a slim mlok handguard i bought cheap off of ebay. For 40 dollars, it fixed a few issues I had with the original stock handguard!

  8. Ive shot 2k rounds so far. Ive made the mistakes of trying to build a competition pistol only to overspend because of parts I wrongfully bought, or I ended up not liking it. Thats why I decided to get something ready to go. I went with a few bells and whistles like the bad lever, which turned out to be very helpful.

My impressions starting out; this thing is light! Minimal dot movement and it was flat. Their patented tuneable buffer came stock and it just softens so much.

The best part? It ate everything and never had any issues with any ammo. Only time something went wrong on my stage is when my glock magazine spring follower got stuck and my rounds were just rattling.

Here are the changes I have made and kept. I went with a lighter fixed stock just because it looked cool. Added a foregrip for easy index.

The best upgrade was the trigger. I replaced the pof 3.5lb flat face trigger for for the hiperfire 24 c because it was lighter and it struck primers harder. Plus, I keep hiperfire in my ar too.

The bad and the ugly; i replaced the hanguard because it would shift after a range session. I emailed mbx and they were more than happy to repair it. But, since I had matches scheduled already, I would not be able to send it off and wait.

I ended up buying a cheap slim handguard and it hasnt happened since.

All in all, Ive spent less than 2k overall, thats including the holosun 510c

  9. I made it fun using shooting workouts, which made getting into shape effortless. I was doing two things at the same time; i did drills that improved shooting And at the same time, im losing weight!

Im currently running a blog/vlog. I purposely balooned up to an unhealthy weight. I wanted to set an example for my family (who are all at risk for heart diseases and diabetes) and my troops. Im in the military and im in charge of younger troops that make excuses all the time.

Anyway, during the holidays, i challenged my peoples to a new years weight loss challenge. I normally weigh in at 160. So during thanksgiving all the way until the new years, I just ate everything and stayed stationary. I gained 40 lbs. I was not blessed with good genetics and im no personal trainer, but 40lbs was rough since I had to get new clothes in just a month.

So far, Ive lost 15lbs. By no means, I am not bragging. Im in the "suck" with everyone else trying to live healthier. Only difference is, my mind is already set on the end results and showcasing the journey. You got this, you just need to rewire then neurons!

  10. Im reading all kinds of awesome suggestions. Main thing is to consult with your Physician to see if doing some diets and workouts are going to be ok.

One thing that I have to do when its time to slim down after hibernating... Is prepare your mindset. Simply put, boost your willpower.

As weird as it sounds, mastering your mental will let you master everything else in life. Im not saying that I have done just that, but i can with my health. There is a science behind it.

Ive done almost every diet out there because I was desperate. But, I would crash and gain twice the weight. Ive bought supplenents and spent more money on eating healthy, only to fall back on pizza and ice cream.

After rewiring my psyche, which was a long process, I could turn it on or off. You master your thoughts, you master your body, you master your actions. Good luck, cant wait to see progress pictures!

Here is a brief overview of my progress so far

    #MotivationMonday

I started my 2k19 resolution about a week earlier on the 19th of December. My goals mainly catered towards shooting sports: get lighter, get more agile and get explosive. I also needed to find a way to increase my grip strength because its the number 1 recoil softener.

Instead of figuring out what to feed my body, I first needed to feed my psyche. I fed it daily Philippians 4:13, some Dr. Eric Thomas, and your occasional Dwayne Johnson. As you can see, 14lbs in a month is still good, but  I have lost more in the past. Reason was, I had a few cheat days here and there. (Its Korea)

I use heavy lifts that incorporate the forearms without straps along with classic forearm trainer tools. The gripdyno showed that my grip strength is going up. It also showed in my heavy lifts as I was able to get back on 315's in the deadlift department.

Being patient is difficult. But when you record your journey and progress, clips like these help remind you that youre getting somewhere.

  12. Heres a before and after. This was last year. I purposely balooned up for this transformation contest. And plus it gave me a reason to splurge with the sugars and buffets. This was a 3 month process.  Since then, I have focused on trying to lean out more on the mass, muscle and fat. Agility and speed is winning the pcc division which I plan on entering once I get back.

Let me know if you have any questions!

  13. Hey everyone! I wanted to share a video i put together about preparing in the offseason.

So I am currently in South Korea via Uncle Sam. Ive been here for 8 months and got four more to go. I was previously deployed back to back. However, i had m4s and m9s with me which I dryfired in my tent.

Korea is different. We are not allowed to have anything resembling firearms in our room. Its an antigun country. But, I did get to go to an olmypic clay shooting training site but was so expensive. 40 dollars for 25 rounds.

Ive never been able to steadily progress in the sport since I constantly leave. And when I did get back, I wasted money on equipment that I thought would help me get better. I was so wrong. This time was different. I spent gun money on nongun items. Yup. I invested in books, a forearm trainer kit, and a dillon reloader. Im also investing in my body.  Hopefully, when I get back, I can pick off where I left off in a more effecient body.

Lastly, I have been doing Keto on and off for the past 5 years before the whole craze started. I consider myself a very effecient dieter as it is my go to. For those that dont know, its a high fat, low carb diet. It trains the body to utilize fat as an energy source. It differs from the atkins diet in the following ways; protein is limited to 20 percent in keto and there is no cap on the atkins. Atkins lets you reintroduce carbs at some time, keto no so much. Its a heavy focus on fat. So butter, mayo, and porkchops are the go to. For those wondering if there arteries are at risk, rest assured they are when doing keto correctly. There are countless studies on it and my personal account of health check ups confirm it. But im not here to sell you this bacon diet, im just simply sharing what works for me, which may not work for others. It was hard at first since I love cookies and rice, pizza, pasta, you name it. And being an islander with innefecient insulin, just looking at rice will make me gain weight. But i also hate cutting out amazing beef, pork, and bacon. I digress

    Anyway, here is the video

A few months ago I changed up my diet to an ultra low carbs setup due to my blood sugar getting out of control again. The new diet helped get my blood sugar levels back under control with was great but the bad side affect was that my body started burning more muscle than fat. I started to lose quite a bit of grip strength and overall core body strength. I noticed this in my shooting performance at the High Desert Classic in October and since then I have been doing daily grip and squat strength training.

So i bought the book and a dynogrip. Cant believe how weak the numbers i put up. Definitely had to change my workout routine to cater more to shooting. After watching your vid on the correlation of grip strength and the effecient recoil management, it really made kick myself after wasting money on all these useless recoil gimmicks.

I mainly do keto because, well Im an islander and Ill gain 30lbs just looking at bread and rice. So far, its been awesome but ill have an occasional pizza or ice cream. Best of luck!
