I just completed my hand loads for my Q5.  I tested a number of different powders, Titegroup, 231, unique, power pistol, and wsf.  I was going for the powder with the most consistent FPS.  I tested 135 grain plated flat nose and 147 grain plate round nose bullets with Winchester primers my length is 1.145.  I found that 231 was the most constant with 135 grain ammo.  With 147 grain bullets titegroup was the most consistent.  The most inconsistent powder was WSF by far.  I settled on the titegroup because the 147s felt like they had less recoil.  I'm shooting IDPA and need to make a 125 power factor.  With 2.9 grains of titegroup my FPS was 875 at 75 degrees and 900 at 95 degres.  I'm happy with the accuracy of the load although after reading this forum a may shorten the length a bit.  I did have one double feed after about 800 rounds, my guess is It was a fluke.

Maybe try 1.13 for the Walther.  I used to use my 2011 loads for the q5, which are 1.145 and I would have a few issues every so often.  Wether it was a double feed, or a ftf. But since i went 1.13, haven’t had issues.

I ordered a Walther Q5 Match and need to develop a load for it, but thought I'd ask the forum if they had already had a favorite recipe(s) I should consider. Since I have about 10K of SNS 125's, I'll likely use those unless you guys think I should look into another weight. I'm new to the platform and didn't know if there was a "de facto" bullet weight it liked.

And for what it's worth, I plan on shooting it in USPSA Production, so looking to be above 125 PF.

    Thanks!

Should be right around 3.6 with the sns 125gr and tite group.  Load a few then chrono them, but that should put ya just over minor.

  3. Over the last few years there’s been a bunch of drama (for some ppl) surrounding 3 Gun Nation.  I’ve alwasy been a fan, and am a firm believer that 3GN has done more for 3 gun that any other brand or promotion.  However 3GN is coming back.  They threw on a killer Regional in FL earlier this year and there was a lot of good feed back going around.  So hopefully folks will keep going and bringing their friends. They always put on a good match with decent competition showing up.   Looking forward to the match.  It’s really their first true natural terrain style match.

Add/take away no shoots and hard cover as needed.

I think theyre planning on having all the bays in use.  Some of the stages will be used for more than one match.  They have like 30 or so bays there.  I think it will work.  I'm  more worried about having all 3 nationals back to back.  That's a lot of time off of work and a lot of $$ to spend

    OP to this thread here.

Many thanks to the people who posted their advice on the Atlas Titan.  No issues at all with the reloading-centric answers.  Those are the exact questions I was hoping to have answered.  They kind of confirmed what I suspected already.  Asking the question the way I did as kind of like asking what kind of computer I should buy.  Answer depends on how you intend to use it.  Sorry for the open-ended questions.

Sarge, all of your follow-up questions are very good.  I've been shooting USPSA production since 2010, averaging between 6-7k rounds per shooting season.  My average is 3-4 matches per month, not including area, sectional matches, and practices.  I just transitioned from a G34 to a CZ Shadow 2.  Had an opportunity to handle a Titan at Area 7 this year.  Handling that gun was like seeing the clouds part and sun come out, it felt that good.

I am up on the differences, benefits, and drawbacks with minor vs. major power factor.

The reloading issue is a concession to the Mrs.  She is uncomfortable with powder and primers in the house; she's fine with loaded ammo.  Go figure.  If reloading is really the only way to make shooting limited major and buying the Titan worth it, I'll have to negotiate that with her.

Gentlemen, I'm grateful for all you taking the time to share your expertise and perspective.  Exactly why I love this forum.

    Thank you very much.

The titans are the business. Doesn’t really matter what your using it for uspsa or 3 Gun.  Obviously it won’t work for production, but it makes one heck of a limited gun. You don’t have to reload to make major.   Atlanta Arms makes major pf ammo and honestly most factory 180gr ammo Alessandro major (not all).  Freedom munitions makes a 180gr bullet that makes major for .19$ per round.   It’s a bit over major actually.  But you don’t have to reaload to make major.

I'm planning a lightweight precision rig. Going with either a 16 inch lothar walther middy or a 18 inch satern rifle length. What would be the best bcg choice for these barrels? I'm planning to use a slr adjustable block as well. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Check out the UMtactical.com page.  They have a killer new lightweight bcg.  Ive got roughly 5k rounds thru mine with no hick ups.  You def want to run an adjustable gas block with it and I run the JP silent capture as well.  Its a lot like shooting a 22lr.

I have used a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x for 2 years in 3 gun. It has just crapped out on me for the second time. I want to move up in quality. any suggestions? 1-6x, 1-8x, I prefer MOA, but mil is ok, budget $900. No more strike eagles.

I'm a die hard vortex guy.  Your optic choice has quite a bit to do with your budget.  I def recommend checking out the new viper pst 1-6.  If you can afford it make the jump to the razor.  The glass compares to optics that cost 30-40% more.  Check em out. You wont be sorry.

seems like there are quite a few airbnb spots in the area within a few miles of the range.  Probably won't help the SS/revolver shooters that still use rotary phones tho.

20 miles or so away theres 3-4 pretty decent hotels that arnt too expensive

Right...only changed the internals.  Same (crappy) hinged original trigger.

I was pretty impressed with it out of the box.  Especially for the price point.  That being said, I now shoot a walther in CO

My dealer has some in. I keep hearing everyone who reviews them say “they are great for the money.” What if price wasn’t a factor and you are comparing it to everything else out there, does it still compare? I hear that they may not shoot as smooth as some other and be a bit flippy. But that’s the same with the walthers that I guess they are copying.

I handled the glock 19 sized one and good ergos, tight fit, and awesome trigger. I can’t see what would be holding it back.

I shoot mostly 2011’s.  I ended up getting my hands on one of the sfx pistols.  I don’t think they’re any more flippy than any of the competing pistols.  The trigger is awesome out of the box.  The one thing that isn’t a must change isn’t the recoil sys.   Other than that, it doesn’t need much in the way of mods.  I was pretty impressed with it.
