  1. I have a friend moving back from Arizona. He plans on shooting IDPA and USPSA with me. I'll need to start reloading 40 SW for him. He shoots a Glock. I use VitaVhouri 320, 340 and 3N37 for my 45 ACP and 9mm and don't want to stock other powders unless I must. Anyone out there willing to share their pet VitaVhouri recipes for 40 SW/165 or 180? TIA
  2. I can't help you with 200gr Precision moly but I can provide what works very well for me using the 230gr Precision moly. Shot from a full-size 1911 Les Baer TRS: 230gr Precison molycoats N320 4.4+/- OAL=1.20 0.469 taper crimp V=720 '/sec
  3. Sorry I was in a hurry and didn't give a clear picture. The cases end-up sideways at the top. It hasn't been a problem "clearing" the jam, just an inconvenience.
  4. Hi: I received and set-up the case loader yesterday and am very happy so far. Initial set-up went very well (by the book!) and first batch of 9mm rolled off as advertised. I have had two instances where a case ended-up sideways with spill-out and I needed to pick-out the cases by needle-nose pliers to solve the problem. I only put 3-4 handfuls of 9mm in the bin. I'm curious: why does this happen? What did you do to prevent it from occurring? TIA
  5. The following recipes work for me. Use at your own risk. All loads were initially worked-up and chrono'd using a Browning High Power with very good accuracy. All have been fired through a non-suppressed MP5 with very good reliability and accuracy with no feeding problems out of curved mags: 115gr JHP Montana Gold 3N37 6.4 average V= 1197 115gr Precision Molycoat 3N37 5.9 average V=1150 115gr Precision Molycoat N320 4.0 average V=1087 all had an OAL 1.074 +/- and a taper crimp 0.375+/-
  6. Thanks. I did order one from Dillon. I have over three years experience with the 550 and will only be loading 45 ACP and 9mm (no rifle). I use my 45 for IDPA: my volume demand is rather light and my short stubby fingers handle the cases well. My subgun goes thru a lot of ammo each time out and short stubby fingers don't handle 9mm cases as easily as 45's. I look forward to not feeding the cases manually.
  7. I am ready to take the next step and order a case feeder for my 550. I have done a "search" and have a fair amount of information. Before I place the order I would like some feedback: does anyone who ordered a case feeder for their 550 regret the decision? If so why? TIA
  8. Thanks. Beginning to think no one would ever reply
  9. my error in the header: it should have read 115 gr precision moly coat (not 155)
  10. Any one willing to share their pet load for N320 & 115gr Precision molycoats? I'll be shooting them through a BHP and a HK subgun. Currently I'm using 3N37 @5.9 with very good results. I'd like to standardize my powder for both my 1911 .45 and my 9mm's. Thanks
  11. I've been off this board for a while and my memory has failed me. Does anyone have the contact information for the company that sells the micrometer-type device that attaches to the Dillon bar and allows rapid but accurate/consistent powder drops when changing the powder load? Thanks (If I knew specifically what to ask for I would have done a search)
  12. so minimal I didn't even notice it
  13. Medic: Did you ever load the N320 higher than 4.9gr with the 230gr JHP ? If so, I'd be interested to see what your chrono results were with the higher charge weights. Yes I have data but it is flawed due to me not being chrono-wise last spring (ignoring sunlight and not being 10' back) - sorry. I did go out today (in the shade) and pushed 746 ft/sec with an ES of 43 and SD of 18; ambient temp was 50. If you want the data anyway, let me know & I'll send it. FWIW: I loaded-up 4.9 of VV320, Laser Cast 200 SWC, from the full-size 1911 and got 850 ft/sec, ES of 63 and SD 27. It was extremely accurate - at 10 yds all touching & a half-dollar would cover them.
  14. My favorite VV320 recipe for 230gr MG JHP is 4.9. It pushes it out of my full-size1911 around 785 ft/sec. I recently inherited a whole lot of 200gr Laser Cast SWC. My desire is to continue using VV320 and to get in excess of 825 ft/sec. Any recommendations as where I should start? VV says start at 4.7. I'm looking for "field experience" in order to save some time and money, not book data. I do have a chrono. Thanks
  15. VV320 4.9, 230MG JHP, 0.470, 1.25, mixed brass, CCI, averages out around 763ft/sec
  16. 6.4 of VV 3N37, 115 Montana gold JHP, OAL 1.089, 0.375 - very accurate through both my BHP and G-19
  17. There is no model number. It is described as a "PACT Digital Precision Powder Scale". It operates off 120v. I did finally contact the company and they were very nice. After a brief question & answer period they told me not to operate any electrical device on the same circuit as the scale (the furnace in my pole bldg as well as a case cleaner were ID'd as likely culprits). They offered to look it over if I still had problems. I lack confidence it in now and cross-check all loads with my balance beam scale. Plus I measure (5) dumps of powder and take the average. I don't know if all digital scales are this sensitive to electrical interference and convective air flow. Before I throw stones, I'd need to know this answer.
  18. Got out to the range again today while the sun was shining and no snow falling. I changed the recipe slightly from my earlier post: still VV340, 5" 1911, CCI 300; but OAL now 1.225 & 230 MG JHP Load high low average ES SD 6.1 725 678 696 47 17 6.2 741 688 719 53 19 6.5 826 713 780 113 43 6.6 837 783 814 54 20 6.7 843 787 818 56 25 Best load was 6.7. At 10 yds (with a rest) 5 rounds were within a 50-cent piece. Use at your own risk.
  19. Got to the range today, nasty cold wind. Recipe: Les Baer TRS 5" barrel, CCI 300, once-fired cases, OAL~1.260, crimp 0.470, VV340, 230 FMJ, ambient temp 28F, no s/s of over pressure. Use at your own risk. I do question 6.1 & 6.2 & will re-load them & chrono again. None come close to VV reload booklet specs Load high low average ES SD Accuracy 6.0 721 649 682 72 26 6.1 779 635 710 144 51 6.2 728 673 695 55 18 best 6.3 740 684 722 56 17 best 6.4 819 732 771 87 40
  20. I have a PACT digital precision powder scale that is acting-up. I have not had success in contacting the PACT company on either their "800" or "214" number. Plus the manual does not list an address. Anyone know if they are still in business, if so have a number? Thanks
  21. I have loaded-up some VV 340 and VV 320 in 230 JHP. I'm waiting for the snow to stop and the range to get get plowed-out. As soon as I get results I'll post both chrono and accuracy.
  22. Thanks for all the suggestions
  23. I shoot a stock Les Baer TRS in IDPA using 200 LSWC and 230 FMJ. I'm looking to change the brand of powder I use to VV. Their reloading manual lists loads for N310, 320 and 340. I have read many of the threads on this site and other than reading that N310 does not give a large margin of error and is not for beginners, there doesn't seem to be any advice for me. I really do not want to buy a pound of each. Anyone out there willing to share advice and make a recommendation? BTW: I plan on using VV 3N37 for my 9mm BHP using 115 JHP - any comments on that? Thank you
