  1. I think the problem is solved. I actually moved the Bullets out to 1.250 (did the "plunk" test in barrel) from the original 1.230 and ran fifty this morning in 50 degree temps. All cycled fine; fast and slow trigger pulls. The only thing I have changed in this Glock is the guide rod from OEM to a tungsten one. Thanks for the help.
  2. I have these same Bullets loaded for my G 21 using 5.3 gr of VV N 320. They are hit and miss on chambering. Anyone else have this issue? I use a light taper with a Lee Taper Die in station 4 of my 550b.
  3. Not to be flip, but go back to the RN? I know a lot of folks are getting other than RN to feed reliable, but the majority of posts I read on different forums seem to weigh heavier towards RN and HP for the .45 ACP.
  4. I use the Bayou 147's in my G 26 gen 3, A# 7 @ 6.4 grns for a range load that functions flawlessly. I would power up your load some.
  5. Mine are seated 0.224 into the case. You can definitely tell when seating into CBC brass.
  6. That sure gives me pause to shooting stepped brass. I have experienced case separation in rifle comps and that is one PITA. An old timer (older then me ) did show me a quick solution for that situation if you don't have a case separation tool handy. He said to keep a flat head screw driver with the head just wide enough to fit inside the chamber with the stuck piece of separated case in it handy. Grind the head of the screw driver so you have sharp shoulders; gently tap into the brass and then turn to seat into the brass. Pull back and the separated case should come out. Be warned not to scratch the chamber. Works great on rifles; have not had to try it on a hand gun yet.
  7. I am shooting 147 Bayou Bullets loaded out to 1.145 OAL in my Glock 19 stock barrel. So far the CBC and stepped Aguila(sp?) seems to be functioning well for this gun.
  8. Well after fiddling around with the dies I am able to get all my "used" brass to pass the case gauge test. I figured it was something I was doing causing the problem. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
  9. I am using 1.145 w my G 19 and the Bayou 147 FP. Stock barrel. As suggested, do the plunk test to get it right.
  10. I agree with your assessment of the difference between the two categories. I know a lot of folks will disagree with my philosophy of weapons, but I have always believed my sidearm was to be used to fight my way to my long gun. In the recruit academy we were instructed to seek cover and distance between us and the bad guy if feasible and possible because most hand gunners were not that proficient using a hand gun. ( little light bulb goes on in my then young head) Ah, a long gun vs a hand gun with distance gives the advantage to the rifle.
  11. Don't even get me started on reloading for long range......OCD and then some. Interesting thing about reloading for handgun is that some of my rifle reloading habits have carried over to loading for the 9mm. As to chasing brass, I use a reduced load with the 147's (5.4 grains A#7) so my brass usually falls right at my feet.
  12. Thanks for the suggestion, I will give that a try.
  13. I'm sure it is something I am or not doing. I champher the case mouth and follow up with steel wool to leave a smooth bevel. You are chamfering 9mm pistol brass? I assume you bell the case mouth and crimp afterwards, so what's the point? I do bell the case and use a slight crimp. I just found the Bayou Bullets coated seat without issue if the mouths are champher and Remember I am "retired" So time is not that big a deal. I probably shoot about 1K a month in 9mm so it's not a hardship to me to take the extra time.
  14. I'm sure it is something I am or not doing. I champher the case mouth and follow up with steel wool to leave a smooth bevel. All my other loads plunk like they are supposed to. The case gauge is a Wilson which has a good rep in the reloading circles I shoot in. Got me stumped .
  15. I have to admit I am not using a Dillon progressive press any longer as I gave mine to my God daughter and her husband when they began shooting GSSA Matches. I single load with an old Lyman torrent press with the RCBS carbide dies. With the cbc brass every round fails when placed in the 9mm case gauge. They pass after re-sizing, but fail after re-loading. I have tried every thing from re-adjusting dies to standing on one foot with my fingers crossed and they still won't fit into the case gauge after loading.
  16. ^^^^^^ what you said about cbc! I couldn't get it to load right either. Had to pitch quite a few out of the "processed" brass I purchased.
  17. Back in the day......mid 90's we trained at Hurlburt AFB near Ft Walton Beach at a monthly IPSIC match. I think after I retired the match moved over to Pensacola for a few years. I know there are IDPA matches at the Escambia River Muzzle Loaders ( ERML) range each month near Pensacola but unsure if IPSIC is still being shot in the area.
  18. Appreciate the comparison on Starline. That I can relate to as Lapua is used often in the long range rifle game as others have pointed out. Years ago I would compete in IPSIC but did not do the reloading for the matches. The department contracted with a trainer to provide our ammo for us to shoot in the competition. I have to admit I rarely leave a practice without "all" the Starline I came with. I realize some has to be sacrificed to the brass gods but prefer it to be other than the Starline. Having said that my shooting these days is for self defense practice and general enjoyment so I can take the time to look for wayward brass.
  19. Why not? What don't you like about range brass? I use range brass for 9mm minor and major - have no problem with it. Attached a 52 yard group with mixed range brass in my 9mm major TruBor. Didn't say I did not like it; said I wasn't as impressed with range brass. I should have been more specific about the head stamps I experienced issues with in my op. Like a lot of you have stated the stepped brass I had was crap. I was hoping for and received from a few the cases to stay away from and the ones to seek out. Hey free is free. I just don't want to waste my time loading something that won't function or eject. Thanks for the replies.
  20. First, I have been a precision reloader for high power rifle competitions ( 600-1K yds) for over twenty years. I say that to let you know I have some experience with brass cases from a reloading and annealing position. I recently got back into reloading for handgun primarily 9mm. I purchased some new Starline brass and some previously fired brass with a wide variety of head stamps. I was very pleased with the quality of the Starline brass from initial loading to repeated loadings. I cannot say I am as impressed with the re-cycled range brass. My question to all the 9mm reloader's is what is your favorite brass for both major and minor loads and why?
  21. Went to the range today to function test some loads described above. Factory Gold Dot (124 grn) functioned w/o fail and slide locked back after last shot. 147 Bayou Bullets FP all functioned w/o fail from 6.4-5.2 grns three shots in each weight 0.2 graduated. Also the temp is 10 degrees lower today (50) from the first day. The best group from a rest at seven yards was 5.4 grains of Accurate # 7. Very soft with brass falling on the table next to the rest. 124 Bayou Bullets FP all functioned w/o fail from 6.9-5.7 grains; three shots in each 0.2 graduated. Three groups were very accurate from the rest; 6.5 - 6.3 & 5.7 grains of Accurate # 7. I did not Chrono the loads as my intended use for the best load won't be until next month when it will be much warmer. The conclusion is that all that was needed was 0.2 grains more powder in both bullet weights.
  22. I think you are probably right. I have loaded up some more 147's from 5.2-6.4gns and 124's 5.7-6.5 to try today. I also have some factory Gold Dot to test functionality which I should have done in the first place. Will report back later.
  23. Have not run any factory loads yet. Will test some as soon as the weather allows.
  24. I posted this over in the spring section as well. I was shooting some 147 Bayou Bullet FP today with 5.0 grains of Accurate # 7. Had a bunch of FTE &FTF's. Finally gave up. Temp was 60, gun is new with stock guide rod recoil system. This load works great in my G 24 -9mm conversion with an 11 lb spring. Should I go up on powder or get a lighter guide rod sys.? Is 14lb as light as you can go with the G 26? TIA for suggestions/ advice.
  25. Went to the range with a new G26 shooting some Bayou Bullet 147's with 5.0 grains of Acurate #7. Numerous FTF & FTE's. Stock springs. Does anyone have a thought on which guide rod spring weight is available for this round to cycle the slide? This load cycles the slide in my G 24/9mm with an 11 lb guide rod spring. Long heavier slide ( G 24 is originally .40) TIA for suggestions/ advice. Shooting for fun & target practice.
