  1. First round of trial loads with 572. Just a dozen of each.

Gun is a full size open gun, KKM barrel with two .156 ports, Bedell comp.

1.175 OAL and WSP for all, mixed brass. Bullets are Precision Delta JHP's

My regular load is 8.8 HS6 with a 115 gr, runs 172-173 PF

    115 gr, 7.5 gr 572, PF 163

    124 gr, 7.0 gr 572, PF 155

I'll focus on the 124's for the next round, probably 7.3, 7.5, 7.7.

  2. Carbide sizing dies use a short ring of carbide which sizes the same size all the way down. So even though the 9mm is

a tapered case, the sizer sizes it straight.

Just measured sizer dies. 38 SC, 38 Special, 9mm U die are all .378-.379.

SO---using a 9mm U die on 38 SC brass MIGHT help a bit. The main difference between the U die and a Dillon

sizer is that the U die has less radius at the mouth of the die--letting it size the case a bit further down.

If the 38 SC cases are expanding a bit just ahead of the rim, is it the result of an aggressive beveling job on the

cylinder? If that's the case, even the U die probably won't help. It sizes further down than regular sizers,

but it doesn't go all the way down.

  3. Finally got my hands on a couple of pounds of 572. I'll get some major 9 test loads ready tomorrow and chrono them Saturday.

So far---it's not as dense as HS6. A full 9mm case of 572 ran 10.8-11 gr. HS6 is around 12.5.

I think I'll start around 7.0 with a 124 at 1.180 and see what I get. REALLY hoping it acts like the old HS7. I've heard the

burn rate is slower than HS7----

  4. Since this is still trollin' along------

We should probably get rid of "Lady". Change it to "Female".

Lady (as does Gentlemen) implies a certain level of decorum. I'll not

name names (wouldn't be gentlemanly), but I've shot with or witnessed a few who were

obviously female---but could cuss and throw an impressive fit when a no-shoot would jump

in front of a bullet or the spin of the earth would rotate a long range target out of the bullets path.

    .

    Hardly Ladylike!

Way to throw Nancy under the bus.

Dang-----Probably should have thought that one through a bit.

  5. Atlanta Arms did a short 9mm Major a few years ago. It wasn't a 115----it was a 124 JHP. The headstamp was 355 Super.

Good stuff. I've still got maybe 150 rds of it, I fire a few in a new gun sort of as a "control". The stuff was VERY

consistent, running right at 172 PF. It used a powder that I'm not sure was ever positively identified.

They stopped making it. Liability, demand, the dearth of components that hit a few years ago---I've never really heard why.

Personally there is only one person I fully trust to stuff darned near 9 gr of HS6 under a 115. Me.

  7. Just a hunch but maybe the slide is hitting the comp when the gun returns to battery.

How much clearance do you want between the comp and slide, and then is there a point of to much clearance between them.

Haven't had any issues with .005" to .007" with Bedell Titanium comps. More doesn't really cause any problems,

the gap just becomes more noticeable.

  8. Looking forward to giving it a try as soon as I can find some locally. Hoping it's closer to the old 571/HS7---and I've seen

a few references on other sites stating it may be a bit slower than HS7. That gets it into 3N38/N105 country, with a denser

    powder.

  9. I don't care one way or the other for local matches and practice ammo. As long as

it's not split, the primers don't fall out and it fits a case gauge---it's good to go.

Usually purchase a few thousand nickel 9mm for major match ammo. I do believe

it's just a touch slicker, there is a better chance it's actually once fired, and the rims and

extractor grooves are generally not beat up. It seems to feed and extract just a touch smoother.

Load it , shoot it at Sectional/Area matches, walk away.

  10. Smoked heavily for 20+ years. Quit a thousand times---but not for long. Tried patches, gum,

meditation, cold turkey. Nothing worked. Eventually got around to trying Zyban (bupropion).

That was May of 1999---haven't smoked since. YMMV.

  11. If you make some--make an extra. I'll take it! Heck--if you decide you don't like the one

you just got, let me know. Been looking for one to try for a while.

Sounds like a good idea. Might get in the way of a left side slide racker, and long

thumbed folks might have some issues. Looking at my gun with a Cheely setback

and visualizing the area above the thumb safety with the sight at 45°, things

    get a bit tight.

  12. Go with the torx drive rather than the hex----much less likely to slip. Standard is 3/8, you probably want 1/2"?
