This is a general question to everyone in this thread. Have you used a grip dyno to measure the maximum pounds of grip force you can produce with each hand? If you haven't, then start with that measurement so you actually know where you are at. How much grip strength you feel like you are producing doesn't matter in the big picture. Without knowing how "strong" you grip strength is in measurable pounds of force its very difficult to correlate grip training to actual strength gains. From my experience on the range and training others the vast majority of people who believe they are gripping the gun "HARD" are actually not when you measure their grip strength. Perceived grip strength though feeling like you are gripping hard and proven grip strength which is actually measured are two completely different things. Significant pounds (100+ lbs per hand) of grip force is needed to effectively manage recoil.

    What dyno would you recommend?

    Leverage pressure:

Treat your fingers at your front strap like a hinge point

As you bring your gun up from a low ready position, if your pivot point is set, your hand and forearms will close (use imagery of a nut cracker)

  3. Renton and Paul Bunyan (graham/Puyallup) have monthly idpa matches, even in the winter.  You do have to pre register though.  Paul Bunyan pre-reg is on practiscore, but i'm not sure about renton.

We also have an indoor match every Tuesday night at West Coast Armory in factoria.  First Tuesday is USPSA, the rest are idpa.

Important: Recoil with revolvers is very different than with pistols; pistols have recoil springs which mitigates the millisecond of shearing shock of the explosion. I sold my 44 Magnum revolver because I could not shoot more than 24 bullets before the skin on my palms started to tear. I recently shot a Desert Eagle in 50AE and it kicked like 10 horses but it didn’t hurt my hand. The internal springs made the incredibly powerful recoil even, almost smooth and without that sharp spike in force at the instant of powder burn.  I put 100 50AE bullets down range in that one session which left me with: a major dent in my credit card and a spectacular grin for two days. Buy your 617 then get loading blocks,  speed loaders and a lot of cheap bulk 22 ammo and have fun.

It's different even between revolvers.  single actions recoil very differently than doubles.

Seems like a 9mm vs 45acp debate here. You love one or the other. In my mind the VV N320 shooters are the guys with the baller bank accounts that have the same number of digits as my phone number.

Personally loaded hundred of thousands of rounds with Titegroup and never seen a problem with it. I just cant justify the cost of the N320. My 1911 45 will start to get pretty dirty around the 1k round mark with TG. 9mm and 40 never had a problem either. Maybe I clean my guns to much?

As of today, 8lbs of TG is 127.50 at PV and 8lbs of VVN320 is $227. So unless I'm putting double the charge with TG, it isn't even close to worth it for me.

The difference between 8lbs of TG and 8lbs of 320 is .0089$ per bullet.  (1400 bullets per pound is the basis)  You don't need a baller bank account for such a tiny difference.
