tough to get on top, harder to stay there, and almost as tough to get back...good luck and good shooting...
Man, I was never anywhere near the top but I made a lot of noise.
-
Nicely done, Sir!
Feels good, doesn't it?
Well....yes and no. I was happy with my shooting but it's a little depressing to know how far I have to go to get back up to speed. No pun intended. I'm not sure I'll ever be as fast/good as I use to be.

Rip van winkle here. Stopped shooting USPSA and 'action' matches 18 years ago [at 31] to return to racing motocros racing [but that's another story!] At the end of my "career" I was shooting "B" scores at USPSA matches though never classified.
Bought an open .38 stupor with a c-more, "holster" [hahaha] and mag pouches from the classifieds a week ago.
Today I clamped that holster [holster! hahaha] on a wide western dress belt and backed up 40' and did some one shot draws.
1. After 70,000+ rounds with my old Chapman 007 years ago, that holster is NOT where I think it should be!
2. Picking up the dot in a c-more fast is going to take some practice. A lot.
3. Shooting for A's I was slooooow. Bout 1.5 seconds I'd guess but I don't have a timer.
4. The gun shoots high for me as sighted.
5. I am not unhappy.

A CR speed is out for now as I had to take one of our labs to the doggy ER last night [he's OK now] and I'm trying to figure out what belt [38-40"] will get me by using my new [uesd] open gear. $60 ain't a lot of money but it's 3 times what I have today for a belt and I wanna get shooting.
haven't been able to locate on on E-bay or any bang bang classifieds.
Any ideas?

In any event Alanta Arms sells it....Thanks
Besides mag capacity what advantages will I get shooting super comp over super?
-
Thanks for the quick replies.
AA does in fact have major super @ $245 per 1000 [+shipping].
Brazos has a couple extractors. Thier "drop in" will still need some "tuning".
All I have to do now is decide on whether to stay with a super or go to a super comp.......?
-
Finding "production" .38 super that'll make major is proving to be difficlut. I found some super comp ammo and understand the advantages I'll get if I convert to it. I also find some people shoot super comp out of a super gun without a problem. Switching extractors seems to cure the guns that won't function with super comp ammo.
So.......
If I go with a new extractor in my Caspian slide gun will I need to mill the breach face?
If I install a new extractor is it any different then the many I replaced in the dark ages [80's]?
Or do I need a smith for that job?
Having depeleted wth bank account getting the gun, it'll take a while before a new 550 is on the way....till then I need to be able to buy major loads.
-
I believe the USPSA ammo supplier does too and will ship it to a match for you
And who might that be? I couldn't find any info on USPSA.
Zero says they only have minor.
-
Design shouldn't continually favor one over the other.
Thankyouverymuch!!
-
Zero sells it
I've been a non-shooting coma for 18 years....Who/what is "Zero" and how do I contact them?
Thankyouverymuch.

I thought I ran across a thread with a couple ideas for production .38 major ammo but I can't find it anywhere.
I hear Alanta Arms might have it, any others?
I'll be ordering a new 550 but I'd like to make my gun go bang in a match or two while I get set up to reload [again].
Can someone point me to that thread or have any ideas on suppliers?
* Why do I always choose the deep end?*

Is this business something to be enjoyed or rather just a 'money maker'?
I learned a loooong time ago that when you do something you love for your job it will likely turn into "work". I've had a few jobs that many people would kill to have. I ended up getting very tired of them. Perhaps I enjoyed them longer then I would working at Wal Mart but I think it's very rare when you love your job for ever.
After 14 + years in my current profession, I could use a break......

Oh....to heck with it....Looks like I'm shooting Open.....

I'm short (5' 7''), and while I feel it gives me some advantage with low ports, I'd still rather be an inch or two taller. Not only for the girls but I've found leaning around a wall (REALLY common where I shoot) very difficult at times. My teammate is tallish (6'3'') and he always gets better times when leaning as he doesn't have to break his stance as much.
Many taller shooters complain that stages usually favor shorter people. While often true, some stages clearly favor taller people with more reach, and I've found tall shooters to be really quiet on these stages about favoring
We're just desperate to get any unfair advantage we can......:)

I am 6'8". I have always had the same concerns as ZoomZoom. Everything is center around the short guy.
KOREA!?!
6' '8" in Korea is like being 8' 4" in the US. How do you deal with it? My god, when was the last time you looked at someone eye to eye unless they were laying down?

YEAH! It's discrimanation and we're taking you all to court. Attorneys have been contacted and briefs are being prepared as I type.....

With a name like "ZoomZoom" you wouldn't happen to drive a Miata, would you? That would be pretty entertaining to see!
Dodge 3500 4 door diesel w/8' box.........
One of out pointers is names Zoom Zoom.

Back in the stone age I shot a stage where we encountered a pre-fab stockade fence. We were told it was a fence and were to engage the tatrets on the other side. The options for most people were through a low "missing" board or around the end.
Mean RO wouldn't let me shoot over the top of it........
-
I happen to be 6'9"....I know I know...basketball.
As I'm hoping to get back into comp later this summer I remember an "issue" that use to crop up from time to time "back in the day"....I wonder how y'all would handle it.
More then once my height gave me an advantage over shorter shooters. I'm not talking about shooting over the "top of a stage"[ such as over a "solid" wall that happened to only be 6' high] but in situations where “obstacles” had been place to force shooters to shoot under/around them. I could shoot over them but I was always told it wasn’t allowed. I couldn’t use my height to my advantage.
But in stages where being smaller would save you time, shooting under something always seemed to be OK.
It takes me more time to kneel or go prone then a smaller shooter. They have the advantage due to their size. Why shouldn't I be about to use my size to an advantage?
Now I know every stage is different and it would be impossible to judge the situation without seeing it in person but in general, how would you handle a very tall shooter that could use their height to an advantage in a stage?

Reminds me of when I was making major with a 130 gr. [if I remember that far back!] jacketed bullet. The gun was the first complete comp gun made by Caspian. Not knowing better they had throated the barrel. Unburned powder would build up in the comp and then burn off about every 4-5 shot. I guess it looked pretty crazy. People then picking brass would FREAK when they saw the bulged cases caused by the throated barrels. Starting with new P+ cases I NEVER had a case even crack let alone come apart.
*sigh sniff sniff* The "good" old days.......
Gotta call about that gun today and see what happens.
Bummer... Hard to figure out what's going on with the slide/comp fit. Looks like they cut the slide back so the comp would recess into it. That would mean a new slide. Might still be an ok deal though.
-
What about shooting SS minor with just a new barrel on the thing? At least it would get me back in the game with a big cash out lay [for now!]
Sorry, no nostalgia class in USPSA (yet).I never expected to be this old and 49 ain't old [so I'm told].
-
Thanks for the input folks. I went to USPSA and read the bad [for me] news. 23 round supers!!! I had a hard time keeping track of a single stack super when I was youg and knew everything. I don't stand a chance now.
Sounds like I'd be better off going the single stack route or production/limited with a new barrel or different gun.
No race guns laying around. I sold em all off including a comped super that would group 3/4" prone at 25 yards.
I don't own that gun yet I was just thinking.......... gun, belt holster, mag pouches and 6 mags for $650.
-
I just ran across an older .38 super in nice shape that's set up like my guns were back in the day [late 80's].....Bo-mars, comp, ambi saftey, etc.
With the comp, I'll have to shoot Open right? But is there a class these days for comp guns with open sights or will I need to install optics on it?
