  1. I always wanted to be a musician, but it didn't work out, so I started playing drums. I've quit playing for now for mostly the same reasons as XRe. Musicians are the biggests flakes on the planet and it's really hard to find good people to play with. That and I'm too old to be going on stage at midnight and being out until 3 in the morning when I have to go to work the next day.

You can find some of the stuff I've played in recent years on my Website

  2. I wouldn't use Titegroup with Precision bullets. Too hot and it burns the coating, making lots of smoke and possible leading. I like Universal Clays in .40, but I haven't had good experiences with Precision bullets and that powder. I've been using 200gr. bullets and the smoke is thick! Can't see my front sight after the first shot on a day with no wind! I'm using Power Pistol at the moment, which is working better. You should be able to get N320 though.

  3. I was running a 15# spring and steel Wolff guide rod in my G24, just to see how it would feel. I can't say that there was any drastic perceived change. I've gone back to the stock rod/spring, mainly because it's easier to remove and replace than the non-captured Wolff setup.

I wouldn't mess with it in a production class gun myself. Actually, the more I've shot Glocks, the more I'm convinced the closer to stock, the better. Sights definitely need changing. Maybe put in the 3.5# connector (I'm liking the LWD model) and a little polishing and that's about it. I've played with different springs, but I've ended up back at stock. Glocks run great out of the box, but there are plenty of after market parts out there to make them less reliable!

  4. Titegroup or 231 would probably be best out of what you listed. Titegroup works pretty well, but can get sooty at lower pressures. It burns REALLY hot too. Power Pistol isn't so great for minor loads - it's better for driving hot loads. I experimented with it in my 9mm major open gun and I'm using the rest in my major .40 loads. Everybody's got their favorite pet loads, it takes some experimentation to figure out what you like. Don't make big jumps in the charge weight! Easy does it, check for pressure signs, and use a chrono!

  5. I tried one a couple years back when I first started shooting Glocks in competition. Piece of crap! It's worthless for the type of speed reloading we do in our sport. You need something solid to slam mags against and this thing will bend easily. Spend the money on a proper magwell if you want to get one. I use Dawson on my limited guns.

  6. FYI, I just got Grafs January sales flyer and Wolf 223 FMJ is going for $5.79 per box of 20, with 10% off 10 boxes or more and shipping is $6.95 no matter how much you buy. No affiliation, just passing it on. Item #WO22355, on page 3 of the flyer, if they ask. 800-531-2666 I couldn't find the 10% discount on their web site, so I think you have to call in for it.

  7. You might enjoy one of my favorite qutoes...
Boy, it's a lot easier just to think I could add a tungsten guide rod and a fiber optic sight, and get a better score.

Been there! Or how about buying an Open gun thinking it will make me a better shooter? I'm ashamed to say I did that only to find that for me, it meant that I'd have to practice even more to master dot shooting. It had almost the opposite effect, with several frustrating matches trying to find the dot. I've put it away in the safe and told myself I must just be an iron sight shooter. I'm often tempted to get a S_I limited gun, and one of these days when I have the extra money, I probably will. I've thought about just selling the open blaster to buy a Limited gun, but I'm saving it to give it another go later on. I do love the look and feel of a custom Limited gun. Seeing all the beautiful guns in holsters around here makes me want one. Someone let me handle one of Benny's Fat Frees recently and it's enough to push a guy over the edge and dip into the savings account! But I know that unless I practice, the nice expensive gun with the slick trigger isn't going to help much.

After a couple of years of shooting in this sport, the higher class guys still find flaws in my basics, such as draw, stance, and movement. None of them have ever suggested that I need better equipment. All them say to practice and dry fire. My problem is that I work about 50 hours a week and take 3 college classes at night. I'm lucky if I find time to reload and make 2 or 3 matches a month. Would buying a nice Limited gun help improve my game? Maybe. Would it be $3000 worth? Doubtful. I think it depends on who you are. I'm just an average Joe who shoots on the weekend for fun and stress reduction. It's my golf. I very rarely ever shoot big matches due to the time and expense. Spending thousands in the hope that it might shave a little time and add some points to my score in the local matches I shoot doesn't make much sense. I'm afraid in my current life state that if I spend the money, I'll just be disappointed if I don't see a substantial immediate improvement. If I had time to follow up with practice, it would probably make more sense to pay a GM to give me personal training on what I've got. For now, my schedule is just too tight.

  8. In capable hands, the tupperware guns can smoke! I think there is probably more of a learning curve on the Glock and other striker fired guns to learn good trigger pull technique. Now, I'll probably get an S_I Limited gun one of these days because they're dead sexy. I won't let myself yet because I don't think I'm shooting the Glock any where near it's potential. It's not the gun's fault, it's mine and as I've heard others say, it makes no sense to throw hardware at a software problem. Having a nice crisp trigger might help me with some of my issues, but it won't fix everything. For what it's worth I have a really nice SVI based open gun that's been sitting in the safe the past year. I shot a steel match today with a refurbished G17 that I paid $335 for. The grip angle of Glock just doesn't work for some people though. YMMV. You gotta like what you shoot and if shooting a $2000+ makes you happy and motivates you to practice, go for it!

  9. Was it static steel shot from like one box ala Steel Challenge. or was it run and gun, falling plates ala So Cal style.

It was mostly official Steel Challenge stages, but we like to mix in some other fun and challenging stages. An idea swiped from AlamoShooter is becoming popular. Two 10" plates behind two gongs, with a 12" stop plate in the middle and a big rectangular shooting box. Start in the center of the box and target placement forces left and right movement to the extreme edges of the rectangle. It's both fun and aggravating at the same time. I think we should call it "Foote Loose!" :goof:

Thanks Shred for the coaching after the match!

  10. I feel your pain. Lucy, one of our toy poodles, had an episode of the runs one day while we were out. Came home and she had been going in the living room and dragging her butt on the carpet. Looked like a dirt track around our coffee table! Ugh... Carpet cleaning time! Glad I don't keep the Roomba on auto-pilot!

  11. I've learned the hard way that the mag catch is best to leave stock and just learn to hit it. I even prefer the short button over the long one on the G34/35. I took my aftermarket release out. If you feel the need to try one, practice a lot with it before taking it to a match and discovering the frustration of having your magazine unexpectedly leave the gun due to bumping an oversize button. Try it weak handed too.

  12. Check sporting goods stores, department stores, etc. that carry winter stuff. Things are going on clearance already and I've seen lightweight vests on clearance racks that would be suitable. I got one made by Columbia off a clearance rack at REI for $30 one year. It works for a fraction of the cost of the tactical versions.
