  1. My 929 is well chamfered (by Apex) and still had sticking issues with Staline brass. No such issues with Federal brass using exact same load, even up to 140 PF. ktm400, completely agree with you. While everything is true about polishing and chamfering (should be done anyway), it is Starline brass what gives most troubles. I have tried more than 10 different headstamps, and it was always starline expanded too much. I think it is either case design or metal specifications.
  2. Almo, my 929 can eat everything except Starline (and ZQ1, turkish ammo), new or once or two times+ fired. I found that fired Starline case expands to 0.391 close to the base. ZQ1 expands to 0.392-0.393" (very very bad). All other headstamps expand to 0.387-8. This 0.003" makes a difference in my case. I gave up for now with Starline and switch to Winchester for USPSA and everything else for practice.
  3. It's just my theory I am planning to verify soon: starling brass is longer, 0.750 vs 0.740-5. So when you make specific OAL, the seating depth in Starline is more, what means more pressure. All my loads with165 and 147 are just fine in all mixed headstamps with the exception of Starline. Nope. It did not work. The theory was wrong. Starline brass is still sticky. I measured the diameter of the case near the case base where it's most expanded. Starline gives 0.391-2". The other headstamps - 0.388. It's clear that the brass used by Starline produces more expansion. Probably because of some metal specs. The only brass, which was absolutely not usable in 929 was turkish cartridges ZQ1. They gave 0.393 and were extremely difficult to extract even with a lot force, total lock-up. The best cases for so far are Winchester and Federal in my 929.

  5. I do, since i'm shooting 9mm in revolver only. I noticed that with taper crimp (or light roll) I have bullets pulled out. So I prefer to be safe than sorry.
  6. My experience is similar - random range brass reloads and some Winchester +P JHPs fire and extract but with loads in new Starline brass I get light strikes and have to pound on the extractor rod to get the empties out. I plan to try the now once fired Starline brass (and test some other ideas) this weekend. Hello All. Same problem with me: new or once fired Starline brass is very sticky. The other head stamps were fine. The best load so far: 165 gn Xtreme bulltes 3.5gn IMR 7625 OAL=1.160-4 Avg=791 PF=130. Good load: 147 gn Xtreme bullets 3.9 gn IMR7625 OAL=1.140-3 Avg=873 PF=128 I measured the case lengths: Starline: 0.750 Other: 0.745 (average) I think, that OAL for Starline should be just a little longer in order to have the same seating depth, like with other cases, and avoid stickiness.
