  1. Well i cant say that i have with a Glock but i did have hornady 158,gr SWC tumble on me thru a revo, the reason i was told is they dont like to be pushed past 750-800fps and i was over that limit. I backed the load down and they shot normally, so perhaps the lead you were shooting wasnt made for it ? I shot another bullet with the load that made the hornadys tumble and it handled them just fine.
  2. Im figuring that if you dont go too many rounds without cleaning and dont have the pressure cranked way up, you should be all right. That being said, i still have a LW barrel for my G-19 and shoot only lead through it, im using Berrys 125gr lead rn rounds with about 3.9 grs of unique and i have seen no leading thus far. I clean the barrel after every range trip though so as not to tempt fate even though it can handle them. I havent tried the stock Glock barrel yet but i mgiht give it 100-200 rounds and check along the way to see how it hanldes the leading issue. Now im probably going to order 230gr plated rounds to shoot through my G-21 as i cant find jacketed anywhere and Berrys says you can shoot them through your glock but dont use jacketed data to load them.
  3. Fellas, thanks for all the help. I appreciate it. The closest i have come to finding what i want is this http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/departm...gear/82387.aspx Im just looking for simple full lense +1.50 or +1.75 and i cant find them on most of these sites or they want prescription numbers. I e mailed a few of them and will wait and see what they say back.
  4. Thats pretty much the way i figure im going to have to go, they want big numbers on the prescription sights and all i really need is like you, a +1.5 to see the sights. Thanks anyway for the help guys, its appreciated.
  5. Hey Guys Im almost 50 years old and the eyes are going.I need reading glasses as things arent as sharp close up anymore, the front sight especially is fuzzy and the only way i can see it is with the inserts that i have to wet and stick on the inside of the shooting glasses. These can be a pain as sometimes they fall out or i have to stand there and play with them to get them in the right spot and they have to be wet down. I was going to use some store bought readers but thought better of it as they are made of glass and who knows what they will or wont do in case of a "problem". Does anyone know of anywhere where safety readers can be gotten ? The whole lens, not just the bottoms like bifocals. I have tried searching around but all i can come up with is the bifocals. I got to figure im not the only one with this problem and if anyone knows, someone here might. Thanks.
  6. Im almost positive that im going to go with the Kimber, i like the Glock but i have wanted a good 1911 for years, one that i dont have to do too much messing with. Too many stories about Colts and other brands that they need this changed out and this altered and that done. I held this one in the shop and it fit perfect in my hand and the trigger seemed nice. So thanks for the input guys, its appreciated.
  7. I am trying to decide which to get , Glock 21 Sf or a Kimber Stainless Govt type model. I am leaning towards the Kimber as the one i handled i really liked the trigger and the feel of it and the price isnt too bad either, $800. Anyone use a Kimber in Competition and have comments on it ? The Glock i am familiar with as i shoot a G-19 often as of late but the trigger isnt the greatest but im getting it down, thanks mainly to the help i have gotten on this site. I just want to really see what the general consensus is on this board about Kimber . Thanks
  8. Well to get the lead out fairly quickly i have two options i use. I have the Lewis lead remover from brownells and that always gets it out or if you can find some of the copper stranded cleaning pads like Chore-boy, get some of those. What you do is snip a few strands off and wrap it tightly around a .45 cal cleaning brush just put some solvent on and work away, it will get it out but not as fast as the Lewis will. Remember, its got to be the copper stranded type. As far as why its leading, im no semi expert but if it was a six gun i would say slug the bore and then measure the rounds you are using as they might be undersized but seeing as you said its a les baer i doubt thats it. Could be the lead youre using is too soft, thats a possibility also. Get some different lead from differnet suppliers and see if theres a difference. Personally i shoot Berrys lead and i have not one complaint. I hope this helped.
  9. Havent had a problem with mine yet, knock on wood, and i have had it for 11 years.
  10. I have 3 bulgers for about 5 years now, i do a lot of excercises to keep the gut strong but you got to stretch totally before you do that kind of stuff. Especially the hamstrings, people tend to overlook that thinking its just their legs. Well the back is connected thru them also and if youre tight there, youre going to have problems. If i dont stretch them at least 5 days a week i got problems. Try it out guy, it cant hurt and i will make a small bet you will feel a lot of tension go out of your back almost instantly.
  11. Went out again after re-reading what you guys said and i improved. Main things i put heavy emphasis on was just getting the sight pic and putting that steady pressure on the trigger and going straight back, also made my face relax and as Houngan said to try to look over the guns sights so to speak which i had never done before. I was still flinching a little, but no where near as much as before. Actually put 5 in the same hole, lol. I am keeping up with the dry fire and i guess i just rushed too fast and expected too much overnight. My bad. At least now i got a direction to go in, im thankful to all you guys who took the time. I did some shooting with a beretta 92 and a Glock 19, the Beretta because of its shorter trigger pull was doing better but the difference wasnt much after a while, it even got so i knew where the bullet hit after i pulled the trigger and the gun bucked. I guess the speed will take a long time to come but im glad i got as far as i did. On a side note, my max distance where im effective so to speak is 12 yards, after that i would disintegrate. just for a try i walked out to about 30 yards where i hardly ever get on the paper at all and i fired 6 shots, 5 were about 3 inches away from the 3 inch bull and the last 1 i jerked low. I have never come close to doing that before, never. So at least now i got hope. Once again, thanks guys.
  12. The dry firing to me isnt worth anything. I know, i know everyone swears by it and all but i was doing it for 10 mins a night for a few nights and i went out today and its like no difference at all. When im dry firng i KNOW there isnt going to be any bang, but when i get out there, there is a bang so automatically im going back to the old habits. I tried dry firing before i shot my first mag and it seemd to help a little but its like my mind or my body wasnt remembering it. i dont know how to type this out so it makes sense so im trying the best i could. It was just as bad as could be today, i mean all over the place, truly disgusting. Im going to get in touch with someone whose name i was given to see if the man can spot anything, thats the only way im going to learn because i cant figure it out and i get mad too fast when im trying these different things out. Thanks for all the help and advice guys, im probably one of the toughest nuts to crack there is, lol.
  13. Tried again today after watching Burketts dvd. Changed my stance so im leaning on the balls of my feet instead of the heels, tried using a straighter weak arm and a bent strong arm, did the dry fire drills, tried concentrating more on the front sight than anything. Now im worse off than before !!! The flinch isnt so bad but im all over the place, going more high now with a few flinchers but no semblance of a group at all, i mean none. this is serioulsy driving me nuts. Im shooting a Glock 19 with a light load of 125 gr lead under 3.8 grs 231. All the book reading in the world isnt helping me worth squat. Im am so irritiated i almsot threw the gun over the berm, nothing would go right. Just totally disgusted. I seriously need to have someone who knows what the hell hes doing work with me but here in Vegas i dont know of anyone at all. I will try again tomorrow but i dont forsee any bearkthroughs.
  14. So in other words, you recommend dry fire ? Seriosuly though, thanks.
  15. Well i sort of figured there was no magical cure such as "Hold it this way or do it this way" , But i had to ask anyway, lol. I guess its just purely a mental thing and will have to be overcome. I will load some dummy rounds up and mix them in and stick with the double muffs but its just going to be concentration that overcomes it. Its tough though. Thanks for the advice though guys, i will let you know if theres any improvement. I did order Burketts videos so i will see if any lights go on that way.
  16. Greetings guys I have been shooting for quite a while but i have some habits that are holding me way back. My flinch is number one, real PIA to get rid of. I have read a bit on it on here in this section and one thing that has helped a little is doubling up on the ear muffs. While it does help i still find myself jerking it some and my grip i find my strong hand fingers flinching also, this i figure is easier to cure than the wrist flinch but it adds up. On occasion i will try to use my weak hand as the main grip and my strong hand fingers on the outside and this does stop my fingers from flinching but its not doing me any good on the long run. I have also tried digging my fingers into the weak hand while im gripping the gun and once again, its not going to do much good to depend on that. I try to stay focused on the front sight and i swear i am watching it all the way through and i find the shot not going where i expect it to go. Good Groups are rare with me although i do have the occasional good session, just not often enough. I know this is a mental thing but im having a hell of a itme overcoming it, i will sometimes just aim an empty gun at the target and press the trigger and it takes a few pulls before i can stop flinching. It amazes me how the mind works with this but after reading a lot of the posts on here i know it can be overcome. I shoot a lot of revo and SAA also so i wonder if thats throwing me off, i doubt it but i am not sure. I am going to get Burketts video to see if anything clicks with me there and i have had Brians book for years but im definetly not absorbing something, to say the least, lol. I shoot once or twice a week outdoors and usually go thru 150-200 rounds per session and im not shooting killer loads either, mostly light lead rounds. Any help or pointers anyone can throw my way will be greatly appreciated. I know you guys have gone thru this quite a few times with other people and i know it can be annoying to read it again but i figured if i cant learn something off this site with the assembled brains on here then its a lots cause. Thanks again. Bones.
  17. Greetings I reload on a rock chucker and have done so for about 10 years more or less. Im going to build a new bench in the coming weeks and have gotten great ideas from the bench thread in this forum. My question is do the strong mounts for the rl550 work for the rock chucker also ? I am about 6-2 tall and have a less than stellar back so the less i have to bend the better. I was wondering if it would fit and if it doesnt does anyone have any suggestions on how to mount the press higher. Thanks
  18. I understand your frustration perfectly. Im in Vegas also and i wouldnt trust any of these so called Gunsmiths we have here. I have heard way too many horror stories from too many people to have much faith. Do you belong to Desert Sportsmans ? If so try getting in touch with some of the people who run the matches out there, im sure there are guys who do good work here, thing is i havent heard of them. lol
  19. I dont have dbl action Beretta, 92 fs. After i posted the above i went to the range and took my 686 with me and about 100 rounds of 148gr wadcutters. I THOUGHT i wasnt staging the trigger but i was. It took a few mins for the stuff the guys above posted to sink in. Well i just tried keeping it at a consistent speed right thru and at 7 yards i was doing much better and i mean MUCH. I was getting 5 out of 6 in the bull and the 6th was more likely than not a flinch. But it took a while for the consistent speed to kick in. But i definetly see the difference. Now at 13 yards it was a different story. I was all over the place, lol. I would guess the main thing for me is to keep my eye glued to the front sight straight thru like i been doing and a consistent speed on the trigger pull. Should keep me out of trouble, MAYBE. lol What distance do most of you guys shoot from ? Maybe i was trying from too far out ? Can this be ? This is one of the few times i have shot as close as 7 yards. I usually shoot from 10-13 yards. Any chance this was hurting me ?
  20. Thanks for the input guys, its appreciated. I will try the above mentioned tips out, i really wasnt staging the trigger but i definetly think i was trying to go too fast and i think that is where my fault lays. I forgot the old saying : "You got to learn to walk before you can run". I assume once i get the correct pull down pat the speed will come later as it did for me with my Beretta and the revo single action.
  21. I have been reloading single stage on a rock chucker for about 10 years now and have never had an accident, thankfully. I just went from using the drop primer tube to using the RCBS hand primer that i have had for a long time. I figure it takes just a few mins more but its safer as only 1-2 can detonate if they decide to go off instead of a tube of 100. I also loaded my rounds and threw them in a zip lock baggie if i didnt have any more ammo boxes and would casually toss them on the bed of the truck and not think anything of it while setting up. I WILL CHANGE THAT PRACTICE IMMEADIATELY!! After reading all this stuff it makes sense to take the extra few minutes or seconds to do things the safe way than sepnd 4-5 hours in the hosp emergency room getting fixed up and telling the cops "Well, this primer detonated when i threw the bag down on the truck and thats why i got this .38 round lodged in my left ear".
  22. Greetings I am having quite a bit of trouble lately shooting DA on my revolvers. I have been shooting revolvers mainly because of back problems and i cant be crawling around on the ground picking up brass. With a semi-auto i was doing quite well as i learned a few things mainly to keep my eye glued to the front sight and a constant trigger press or consistent if you will and better grip. I was keeping all my shots in a 4-5 inch circle at 10-13 yards which is a huge improvement for me. Now shooting the revo single action, i was shooting real good, its when i go to the DA that im getting in trouble. Seems like im going high and low and when theyre off center its mainly to the left. Now i have the shooters wheel targets telling you what youre doing wrong, but im pretty much stumped as to what my main problem is. I thought i was flinching but i loaded a few empty chambers and spun the cylinder so as to not know, but my hands stayed fairly steady so i ruled that out. Anyone have any thoughts ?
  23. Sure thing Pat, just send me a heads up a week before time. I appreciate it.
  24. Greetings guys I wasnt sure where to post this so i took a shot and posted here. I have been shooting rifle for quite a while and have had handguns for about 9-10 years and i have suddenly come to the revelation that i stink !! Not afraid to say it, i cant get a decent group to save my life at 10 yards and im always shooting to the left. I know about the wheel target that tells you where and what youre doing wrong but still no good. So im ready to admit defeat and seek professional help as i do enjoy handgunning but would enjoy it more if i was at least competent, then i might take a chance at our clubs steel challenge which looks like fun. I shoot Glock 17 and a Beretta 92. Now that i got all that babbling out, heres my question : Does anyone know anyone who is a GOOD instructor in the Las Vegas area ? Im not looking for any bargains and am not afraid to pay what it costs but i definetly want someone who knows how to teach. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
