  1. This thread seems to have been inactive for a while and since it relates to 771s I hope no one minds if i ask a question.

I am using 4 771s in production Div.

The top of my mags are very close to my body and I find myself often grabbing some shirt as well as the mag.

How can I modify either pouches or belt so that the base of the mag is about a half inch further from my torso.

  2. I've loaded N310 with 180 and 155's when I was working up my 40 IDPA loads. I didn't find it as well as several other choices. N310 or N320 burn very cleanly. Accurate 2 with Fed 200 primers gives me the best SD for 40 minor. Plus it's low muzzle flash for low light/night shooting.

N310 is faster than Bullseye on the burn rate charts so any bullet setback must be avoided.

    What is SD ?

  3. Ask again in two weeks.

It turned out to be a bit more than 2 weeks.

Picked it up today on the way to the range, pulled a boresnake through the barrel just to make sure there was no gunk in there and put about 300 rounds through it.

Perfect operation, a few different reloads and a couple of different factory loads.

Ate them all and no hiccups.

It has a 12 - 14 llb double action pull and about a 6 llb single action pull.

I would have liked it a bit lighter.

  4. I just did NOT know where to put this topic. Mods, please feel free to move it if you know where it makes more sense.

My wife recently got an embroidery machine. For our USPSA club, we'd like to incorporate the USPSA paper taget into our club logo to have embroidered on shirts.

I just know someone has to have done this, typical software is Embird, but my wife has a Genome MB-4 so anything compatible with that will do.

I'd also like to find out is anyone has the USPSA logo converted.

    Anyone? -H

    Can you handle .dst files.

    Al,

From what I understand, yes, her machine reads them.

    -Harmon

I tried to attach it here but it wont work.

    Give me your email address.

  6. Since I have got an extended cylinder release for my S&W 625 I can dispense with my JM grip and get a rubber one.

Can someone give me a contact for Bob Purdue. I might like to try one of those big butt grips.

Failing that I will probably get a regular Hogue one

  7. I hesitate to chime in because there are so many more experienced people on the forum. But here goes.

I think you can learn and improve by shooting matches.

In reality there is no such thing as a match. Only stages.

So go to the match. and shoot stages. Shoot each stage as smooth and with the minimum of mikes or penalties.

Pick someone quite a bit better than you and compare your times to his. Then watch how you progress.

Talk to people, but be careful who you take advice from.

After each day of shooting stages, just for fun see how you finished.

You knew you weren't going to win anyway so the higher up the rankings you go the better you feel.

When you are good enough that you might win the match, still just shoot stages and forget about the match until it is over.

Don't shoot to win. Shoot to be as good as you can be and you may just win.

  8. I had the pleasure to meet the Irish importer of Grand Power products late last year.

He gave me two models to try and more ammo than I could use.

It was a very over cast day, too dull to use my chrono.

There was about the same muzzle rise as with my STI .40 but because I couldn't chrono the ammo I didn't learn as much as I should have.

  9. hey Al,

Hows the accuracy with the bullseye load? As for the cleanliness of bullseye, i tried it for 45 acp from a 150 PF up to 180 but it still didn't burn as clean as clays.

I use it for IPSC so pinpoint accuracy is not my concern. I can plop a mag of 17 into a four inch circle at 15 yds without squinting :) so thats good enough for me. Maybe someone who shoots precision can comment.

About 10 yrs ago I used Bullseye in .38 special and 9mm powder puff loads and it was terrible dirty. So much so that I stopped using it.

Recently it was the only suitable powder available on the day I needed it so I reckoned it would do in a pinch.

When I loaded it to major in the fotty I was surprised how clean it burned. So much so that I have decided to stay with it.

I must admit that my experience is limited. So far I have only tried VV n340, Power pistol and 231 in the .40.

    I like bullseye best.

    al

  10. Bullseye is faster than clays. Very dirty too. Clays is an option but very few use it in 40 s&w. There are safer alternatives. Clays can get nasty really quick if you're not careful. Your thinking of less powder to make a specific velocity is good from an economy standpoint but your margin of safety gets considerably small. The loads you develop now (cool temps) will net you a higher velocity when it gets warmer. Leave the ammo in the trunk to bake and you're asking for trouble.

180g RNFP plated bullet, 1.14 OAL and 4.7g of Bullseye = 175PF clean soft load.

  11. Was practicing draw and reloads tonight and could feel things getting smoother and quicker as time went by. I was thinking though how one would time onesself? I do this alone in my garage and use a small dog bed to catch my mags. Great fun, can feel progress, but want to quantify this progress. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jimmy

It looks like I am the first to happen upon your post. So here goes.

Get yourself a timer with Par function.

It dosen't have to be expensive I think most timers have it.

This means you can set a second "beep" to occur a set time after the first one.

Set it at what ever time it takes you to draw and align your sights on a target and then after a few draws when you can comfortably draw and align the sights well within that time you can reduce it.

If I may caution you against rushing and concentrating on time.

Its better to concentrate on the grip, presentation etc and then when you are doing everything correctly well within the par time you can reduce it a little.

  12. I like to shoot my 625 also but rather than practice with a .22 revolver which will never be similar to a 625 no matter what you do with it I prefer to dryfire using dummy rounds.

I tried speed loaders for a model 17 years ago and you can forget any notion about fast reloads and even if you could reload it fast it still wouldnt be practice for a 625 which uses moonclips

Well thats my opinion and I fully realise its worth exactly what you paid for it.

    al

Well I bought a 617 to practice with this winter to lower my practice costs, now the question is how much/what to do to smooth it up? Are speed loaders available? Who makes a holster that I can use for range carry?

This revo stuff is so different from the bottom feeders that I need lots of HELP.
