  1. Recently bought a used Ghost to use in Limited for a Glock 22 and 35. Was able to easily adjust it to my liking, but can't see an easy way to adjust the UNLOCKED tension.

It seems a bit too loose - I can easily bump the gun out with a very slight push on the muzzle. I'm a big guy, and with the outward cant adjusted for comfort and quick access (right at the 1.5" limit), I'm concerned that a slight touch on my thigh (say, from a seated or crouched position) I'll release or accidentally drop the gun.

Is there a way to adjust the unlocked retention level?

Also looking for any feedback on 'ideal' setup based on extended use (it's my first Open style holster)... TIA -

    Barry

I think the plan is that you keep the holster locked all the time the gun is in it.

If you are not planing to use it then put the lever in the up position.

At the LAMR command make the gun ready holster it and put the lever in the down position.

At the beep it is easy to brush off the lever with your finger as you are griping the gun.

At first it may cost you a tenth second but after a few times you will be able to draw just as fast as from a unlocked holster.

  2. The factory rear blade is too small so I changed mine to a large Millet and opened the knotch to a full 1/4" (.250) so that I can acquire the SDM Fiber optic front sight faster. As far as accuracy is concerned with a smaller knotch, this is a fable as your eyes and brain can center the "light bar" on each side faster in that wider knotch than you can with a tighter knotch. I also changed my fiber optic red to green and like it better on overcast days.

I shot real PPC (50 yds) for 15+ years before switching to IPSC / ICORE / Steel and have Bomar Aristocrat Ribs on those guns. I also opened up the rear sight on those and gained better accuracy with a 596 / 600 accuracy over these 10+ years. Almost 55 now, I cannot see the lines on the blade of any front sight anymore with or without bi-focals. Those fiber optic sights are both quick and kind to my ailing eyes.

Here is a pic of Mine. I think the rear is about .190. I agree that it is faster and that accuracy and precision does not suffer at all.

    Hi Festus

Where can I get one like that

  3. Guys

I found this thread today while researching about sight pictures etc.

On my 625 the front sight is 0.16 wide and the rear notch is 0.15.

In practice this means for me, I can just see the smallest amount of light on either side of the front post at arms length.

I think the simplest solution for me is to replace the front sight with a narrower one.

I don't want to start in with a file.

I have searched Brownells but can only find similar or larger fronts.

I am thinking maybe a .10 would be good.

  4. Al--

If you dont mind please help me understand the personal ownership gun laws in the UK (specifically London). I am on temporary assignment over here for work for 3 weeks. At lunch yesterday I asked one of the guys I was eating with if there was a place I could go shoot on the weekends. He looked at me like I was crazy!!!!! Then stated it is next to impossible for citizens to own guns.

I know there are some IPSC shooters in the UK and I thought there were a few that traveled to Ft Benning 3G every year.

    Thanks

    Jayson

Since you are only here for three weeks you can forget about pistol shooting in London unless you would be happy with Black Powder pistols.

You could try some airsoft IPSC

Best bet is to hop on a ferry or cheap flight to either N Ireland, Isle of Man or The Channel Islands.

A Bastardised version of IPSC is practised at these locations and the natives are reasonably friendly.

Its only a 20 / 30 minute flight to any of these parts and Easyjet or Ryanair do a very cheap price.

  5. I have used my 625 for IPSC mostly and I was wondering if anyone has used a 625 for precision shooting.

I have some 185g swc lead bullets and BA10, Bullseye and AA#2 powders.

Can someone suggest a accurate load.

And does anyone have an idea of what size group is possible at 25 yds.

    al

At 50 feet my 625 PC will group my load of a 185 Berry's HBRN and 3.8 gr. of Clays in one ragged hole. I struck on this load about one month ago, loaded up some test loads, found they were accurate, and loaded enough to get through a local ICORE match the next day. Since I knew there were no long shots on the course for that match (nothing over 20 yrds.) I didn't bother to test the load beyond the sight in distance. My schedule has prevented me from testing out to 50 yards, but up close it's a dandy load for me. And it honestly has less felt recoil than a 9mm to me.

    Thanks

  7. As my 3-year old daughter would say...please, oh please, oh please can you give me some rock solid advice? Thanks, you're the best!"

I have had a few timers and have settled with a Pact MK IV. I got it in 06

Its quite bulky and some of the guys at the range rag me about it, They also rag me about my 10 yo, built like a brick, mobile phone.

Anyways the pact is good for clipping on my belt for both live and dry fire exercise. I just have to glance down to see the time.

It is also great and simple to set for par time and cadence drills.

The beep is a little on the loud side for dry fire inside, but hey, for consistency its better to practice with ears & eyes on.

    Total charge for this $0.02

  8. Hello Everybody,

I remeasured again like I did before except I used 10 different cartridges this time of the same manufacture this. I removed the barrel left the cartridges long put them into the chamber and pushed them until they were seated properly. I then spun them to make sure they were not engaged in the rifling. My measurements were 1 @ 1.083", 2 @ 1.086", 1 @ 1.087", 2 @ 1.088", 3 @ 1.090" & 1 @ 1.092" for an average of 1.088". I have shot WWB 115 gr FMJ, Winchester Ranger 147 gr SXT & and other reloads which were 115 gr FMJ with no problems. So is this satisfactory or do I have a problem with to short of OAL. Thanks for your help & patience with a newbie to reloading.

So as I said 1.08 will work fine.

You can get along with longer oal with a different bullet profile. RN can be longer and still function ok also some factory is more pointed and still chambers ok.

Its good to remember that it is not the oal that is the be all and end all of either, whether the round will chamber or the power factor generated.

Different bullet profiles can be loaded to different lengths and still function.

The same weight bullets of different profiles can be loaded to different oal and still give the same PF

  9. Hello: I was wondering if anyone is using 147grain RNF Precision bullets in there CZ Shadow. I tried my Glock load in the barrel and the OAL is too long at 1.140 :surprise: I use this load in my 9mm 1911 as well. It is hitting the lands in the barrel. Let me know. Thanks, Eric

I use Frontier 147 rn in front of 3.7g of Accurate #2 at 1.10 oal.

    Gives average 890 fps.

  10. DO NOT EVER, EVER,EVER,EVER "connect" through the U.K. with a semi auto rifle, ANY handgun, or shotgun with a barrel shorter than 24"

I have traveled through London airports a few times with handguns and ammo. No major problems.

While you stay in the international area of the airport you are not technically in UK so apart from a few thunderstruck customs officers and a bit of extra grief you are good to go.

The last time I came through Gatwick there were four of us with a pistol each and enough ammo for a small war. Since we were catching a connecting flight to another part of the UK they would not let us pick them up ourselves and explained that we would have to be escorted to the check in for our next flight.

So we had to stand around for 15-20 minutes waiting for our escort.

Eventually a representative of the airline arrived, and the four of us were escorted by a 17 yo pimple faced kid.

So there was no way we could get up to any mischief. :roflol:

  11. I sometimes forget that we have foreigners posting here from time to time and they often quote the IPSC rules, which are slightly different than our own.

    Yeah sorry about that.

As one of the foreigners who quite often call in here I sometimes forget where I am.

But I checked the USPSA rule book and although the wording is different, in practice it should matter little.

The RO should not call range is clear until the gun is holstered.

8.3.7.3 If the gun proves to be clear, the competitor must holster his

    handgun.

8.3.7.4 If the gun does not prove to be clear, the Range Officer will

resume the commands from Rule 8.3.6 (also see Rule 10.4.3).

8.3.8 “Range Is Clear” – This declaration signifies the end of the Course of

fire. Once the declaration is made, officials and competitors may move

forward to score, patch, reset targets etc.

  12. Then there was the old guy who was on his death bed at the age of 97.

All the family had been called home and had spent some time with the old guy talking over old times and such.

And it was now just a matter of hours maybe minutes till he would pass.

His nose twitched and he could smell fresh baked bread he looked around to make sure he was still on earth.

Summoning his frail muscles to a supreme effort he hauled himself upright and manage his way to the kitchen

where he saw his wife had baked a large platter of his favorite coconut cookies.

His eyes filled with tears as he thought of the effort she had made to give him this special last treat.

He reached out to pick one up in his mind he could picture the first time she had baked them for him, all those years ago.

She rapped him over the knuckles with a wooden spoon and said hands off those are for the wake.

  13. As in $Free "cheap"

Any good home recipes for Bullseye?

    124/125 OR 147... I'm still testing.

Gun: S&W Pro Series Minor 9mm

    JeffWard

4.6g of bullseye behind a 124g Frontier cmj bullet at 1.08 oal makes about 130 pf out of my Shadow.

    al

    isn't that a short oal?

    Yeah.

The Shadow has a short chamber.

  14. Hey everyone.

Pretty big year for me as far as shooting. I used to be way deep into trap shooting but went broke trying to keep up with the big boys. Never lost interest in guns since I was career army. Kids are finally leaving and expendable income is on the rise even in these tough times.

Screwed up and went to watch a local uspsa match this past summer. Ah Crap, here we go again.

October- new M&P Pro (1000 + downrange so far)

    November- Blade Tech gear

December- CR Speed belt, range bag(sorry to offend but I got a midway usa), more magazines, Hi-speed low drag hearing protection

And finally tonight called Brian and ordered 550B top notch kit(minus scale, still like RCBS.)

Plan to develop loads and reload this winter then join one of the local clubs this spring, (and wait for my gun to get approved),and I guess just friggin go for it!

This time I do not plan to conquer the pistol world like I did the trap fields. I am here to have fun, get my butt kicked and get back to my shooting roots.

    Heaven Help Me!

Flexmoney, I know you will eventually read this. I was born and raised near McConnelsville on Burr Oak Lake.

In '97 I bought a used cz 75 for £225 and the following week I bought a £25 holster, leather belt and four mag pouches.

and said to my mate " Well thats me all set"

    :roflol:

AAAAH I was so naive back then.
