  1. I started loading for my 9mm open gun using my supply of Zero 125 gr. JHP's. I am loading them out to 1.195", and using mixed range brass. I loaded a couple hundred, and used the barrel to case gauge them. About half of them would not chamber. I took them apart, and resized them, and they gauged fine. I load them back up, and they won't chamber again. Evidently, the base of the bullet is bulging through the case body, presumably because I am loading them so long and the 9mm is a tapered case. I could fix it by loading shorter OAL, but 8.5 gr. of HS6 is not compressed with my current OAL. So,

does anybody make a boat tail or beveled base 9mm JHP? I remember Hornady 147 XTP's had a bevel base, but they are quite a bit more expensive than Zeros, and I want to stay with 124's or 125's.

What would be perfect is a Zero or Montana Gold style 125 JHP with a bevel base, sold in bulk.

    Advice?

  2. I got a new KKM .355 barrel yesterday, and it does not have the too-long chamber problem others were talking about. I specified when I called them that I needed a short chamber so it could be finished in 9mm, and they said they had it in stock. They said they had fixed the chamber problem, and they all should be short chambered correctly now. I got the Clark/Para ramp, bull, threaded for comp. $193 to my door.

I originally wanted to use my old comp. When I took it off, I observed cracks in the port nearest the muzzle, on the top coming off the radius of the port. There was one on each side of the port. They are only about an 1/16" long. I had been having tumbling problems, and I think the bullet might have been touching a baffle in the comp. Would you guys mess with making this comp work, or drop $120 in a Bedell?

Brownells has a stainless and a titanium Bedell comp similar to my current comp. What are the advantages and disadvantages to each? My current comp is carbon steel that had been Armaloy'd with the rest of the gun.

  3. How come? I think it's easier to machine a frame for the Clark cut. Is there a supply problem or demand? I don't suppose I could modify the ramp bottom of a W/N to fit in my Clark frame, could I? But Brownell's is out of W/N Schuemann's as well, so I guess I'm stuck with my key-holing Super for now. Suggestions still welcome.

  4. I have a Schuemann barreled open gun with Bedell comp. I had been using .355 Hornady FMJ's. I used a case of .356's, and now I get key-holing and erratic accuracy. I found a post recently about not going back and forth, but too late. I had been looking for reason to re-barrel in 9mm anyhow, so now that I'm ready, I can't find a decent barrel. The simple solution is to get a Clark/Para Schuemann from Brownells, but they are out of stock, and Shooter's Connection took them off the website. I've been reading the problems with KKM's chambering, and do not feel like fighting with the guy about it. Anyone have a suggestion on a decent barrel for a decent price at a decent wait

  5. If it is an STI sight that looks like the Bomar, (should say "STI" on the top), call Chris at STI. He sent me a couple replacement pins and springs no charge. I guess STI sights have a reputation for breaking the pin. The replacement pin is supposed to be stronger, and he told me they are slightly bigger in diameter. I had to ream the hole a little. I depressed the spring through the front of the sight body, (you should see the hole from the front of the sight) with a very small punch, then tapped in the new pin. Whole thing took 10 minutes. You are correct, the spring provides detent tension for the elevation screw. I replaced the pin on my Trojan, and have had no further problems.

  6. It is not a hybrid barrel; I don't have any holes except those in the comp. Guys here say I should not have as much hazing as I do, but I do.

Anyone have an idea where I could get a Kidd shield? The Bedell looks functional, but kind of clunky compared to the Kidd. Worse case, I guess I could shape it with a Dremel a little!

    Thanks

  7. I am shooting open with a 5" barrel, Bedell comp, and am getting lots of haze on my Cmore. I wanted a Kidd Blast Deflector, but they are on back order everywhere. Shooter'sConnection is selling one designed by Bedell. First, has anyone tried it, and what do you think? Second, how much field of view through the lens can I expect to lose with the blast shield? Does the dot appear just over the top of the shield? Other than switching to a Allchin mount, does anyone have any suggestions? I am using HS6 and 124 Star's, I know a cleaner powder would help, but HS6 is so easy to find around here.

    Thanks for the help.
