I am looking at dressing up my 75 compact for CCP and am curious about hammers. I am looking at keeping it SSP legal for future back up in SSP. The rule says it must come on a standard gun that is SSP legal and not a custom shop only item and it has to be a drop in part that doesn't require modification. There are two hammers I am aware of, that are production legal which generally means might be legal in IDPA: the combat/competition hammer and the shadow hammer. The competition combat hammer is a custom shop part that doesn't come on any factory CZ I am aware of, and from what I understand the shadow hammers have to be milled which means they are modified and hence illegal. Have I got this wrong or are there other hammers on the market that fully satisfy the rule on the hammers for SSP. Anyone care to range lawyer a bit for me?

Just an update, I took a caliper to my CZ 75 Compact. it's 1.35 at the thickest, just shy of the 1.375 requirement...barely. Granted that's with wood grips and not the stock plastic ones so YMMV.

I know you can use smooth face triggers on Glock 19's and that's OK for SSP, as is the other fiddly bits, extended mag release/slide stop... does the same logic apply to components of other CZ guns on guns that don't come with them?

Yeah, I always bring 20 rounds per stage + 20 rounds (to keep mags full even if I end up shooting 20 rounds per stage) at a minimum, usually rounded up to the next 100 increment.
They got you covered on ESP vs SSP. you'll need to lose the base pads in either division, more than likely.

Correct, but doesn't it have to meet all other SSP requirements if used in ESP (ie. no ESP specific modifications)? If so, what does this gain you, other than being able to start cocked-n-locked, and classifying in ESP with the same gun as you classified in SSP?

The sight radius also translates to how your good enough sight picture shows up down range. Sights is a moot point for the reason you discuss

I am staying up in Georgetown through Friday. In Atlanta on any given night you can find an indoor IDPA match, any weeknight matches here? I am not picky on format but will be rocking limited minor with my stock Glock 17 if it is of the USPSA variety! Anything going on between tonight and Thursday night? Just looking for trigger time

Can't use a material for a guide rod heavier than Steel. Stippling a grip is a visible modification, throws you into ESP. i'd recommend http://atlantagrips.com/. it's considered an applied grip which can be removed and is SSP legal, plus it's better than stippling, IMO.
Using an aftermarket barrel is OK as long as it's a "factory configuration" meaning same caliber, length in SSP.

Buddy of mine has a ZEV magwell on his. He's an SO so I assume he's measured it. We haven't had a box stage since he started shooting CCP so I haven't seem if it fits or not.
Even if you do, I doubt they modify the box for whatever division you're shooting, they likely will just use the SSP/ESP/CDP box.

Yup... sorting sucks. On the positive side, I load up my SPP brass for sanctioned matches where they are a "lost brass" match.

Walked into a deal on some 4# jugs of 700x. Test fired 100 loaded out to 1.270 with 4.5 grains. Very soft shooting. i've bumped the load to 4.6 to see if I can get more of the unburnt powder to participate.

I’ve only shot 3 matches thus far, but my patriot vest has served me well. It's light and airy enough to not be uncomfortable in the California heat, and it came in LT sizes which is why I got it over 511/woolrich offerings. the interrior pockets also stiffen the front pannels quite well, making them fold back rather than crumple. http://concealedcarryoutfitters.com/PatriotVest.php
For the gamiest rig though, I did have an idea...
I’ve looked through the rules, but I’m guessing others know them better than i do. Is there a requirement the concealment garment be retained throughout the course of fire? if not, seems you could shave a second or two by adopting a "tactical sarong", i.e. wrapping a shemagh scarf around your gear and clipping it in place. Buzzer sounds, you sweep it away and it falls to the ground leaving your gear unimpeded.
Begs the question though: are you gamer enough to shoot in a dress?
Fun idea. I can't quite quote scripture and verse but I think the spirit of the rules is that the mags are drawn from concealment as well.

In case anyone is curious:
The retainer plate has a couple designs. The early design on these mags is a dimple punched in the plate that is supposed to retain the base pad. It doesn't do a very good job. The new design has a pin that holds the base plate in place.
I contacted CheckMate and got an email back a couple hours later and they're sending me some parts to fix it. Color me pleased!.

Grabbed a mag from my car, the dimple on the floor plate that the base pad attaches to is much shallower on the regular Check Mates vs. the DW Check Mates. Near as I can tell that's the only difference without calipers.

I run these 8 round comp mags for competition and they work brilliantly. In dryfire training this morning when I seated a mag , the plastic basepad slides forward stupid easy. Upon investigating my carry mag now that I'm at my desk, the silver button protrudes flush through the baseplate, this is not the case on the other mag. I'm a 1911 newbie still so the ways of caring for the mags are still a mystery to me.

So I'm guessing it's a matter of getting that button to protrude and be flush. Remembering that mag, I dont' think it's long enough to come close to sticking out that far... Anyone have any ideas to get this base pad to stay on the mag? From time to time this base pad will work it's way halfway off when it was dropped, but it's the only one of my mags that does that.

For what it's worth, I run a Lee decapping die and about 1% of my cases are bulged to the point they will fail a case gauge check. It's pickup brass from a weekly match where 75% of shooters shoot glocks. Not worth a lot, but there it is.
Conversely, I don't case gauge 45's and have yet to have a bulged case, but a much lower pressure round in a generally tighter chamber.

Now that IDPA has a CCP division that is constrained by Barrel length and not just the box, I got to thinking about SSP.
All "issued" guns that are generally used for "service" are 4.5" barrels are less. Every LEO that shows up to shoot usually has the 4.25 M&P or the 4.49 Glock 17/22. Nobody's duty gun is a 5" gun. The CZ 75, XD Service, etc are all sub 4.5" barrels. If the intent of the division is to be an actual "service" pistol, would it not make sense to run 4.5" or shorter barreled guns? then kick all the 5"+ guns up to ESP?
I suspect a lot of folks aren't going to like the idea, but then perhaps the SSP moniker is misleading. Just a thought.

Do you happen to have access to a 3D printer?
For my Lee Auto Disk, I designed a bushing that could be lightly press fit into the largest cavity of the 4 disk set. I can adjust the inner diameter of the bushing in steps of .0006" to basically drop any charge I want.
You could probably sell these.

The chargebar works like a champ for loads over 4 -4.5 grains. I'm loading 45 and my most recent chrono at a match netted a 4 FPS difference. For my 9mm, it's less than worthless.

I'm probably not going to outlay an additional $600 for a bullet/case feeders as I don't shoot as much as a lot of you guys (~400 rounds a month or so in a good month, with an extra bump a couple times a year for the couple major matches I get out to). I'm running a Lee Turret now, and With all of my equipment dialed in, I can load 100 rounds in less than an hour, approximately. That said, I can't find an hour to load every week, and when i do have to load up for a match, good grief, 1600 pulls of a handle to load 400 rounds is just silly.
So the SDB, obviuosly uses proprietary dies. I'm only loading 45 ACP for now, if I switch divisions, then I might get another toolhead/dies, etc, or just use my turret.
I really like the SDB's auto index feature, and can't see jumping up to a 650XL right now... that said can some of you with experience chime in with the SDB? Please try to keep my situation in mind and be aware I'm not burning it down with 1-3k rounds per month.

So the CZ Custom hammer is legal in SSP on my little compact because it comes on shadows that are SSP legal?
