I dryfired a lot back then, I think that works this stuff out really fast. Pull through the DA shot, then don't fully release the trigger so it doesn't pick up the DA notch. This helps a lot to simulate the transition from DA to SA.

100% agree! 1st shot DA then don't release the trigger far enough to reset it.

I would say the 3 most important things to help are:

    1) Dryfire

    2) Dryfire some more

    3) Dryfire even more

Do this everyday for 2 or 3 weeks, being very critical about calling your shots, put most of your attention on what the trigger feels like, learn how much take up there is and where it breaks. Do some live fire to confirm what you think you are seeing and feeling in dry fire. If you already have a good to very good draw to 1st shot the transition should not be any big deal.

    “Anyone…? Anyone…? Bueller…? Bueller…?”

Where's the official SCSA results from the 2024 US Steel Nationals Match back on 3/15 - 3/17 ?   If you have insight, I'd luv to hear it.

I see the match results on PS https://practiscore.com/results/html/f77344ca-f57d-4a7d-90b5-647bdfc51e28

however the official SC results page https://scsa.org/results list no results.

This is a Level 3 match and the second most important match in the hobby next to the worlds.   I also can see  that several outstanding times were laid down across several divisions.  It will certainly shake up the rankings for 2024 and TopShot2024.  http://www.steelrankings.com/

I suspect some back office administration arm wrestling over fees, or maybe I/T SNAFU.   I know the range venue is top notch, so can't imagine what the delay is about.

Congratulations to the competitors who put in the hard preparation work and "got it done" during match time.  I wasn't able to attend, but living vicariously through your results.

OK, I'm mostly better, rant over....

I heard the match results upload page on SCSA.org was not functioning for a while.

Does anyone know if its back up and is this the explanation for such an important match

to not be reported in a reasonable timeframe?

  3. Ken, this is what worked for me, as per Dillon

"Your alignment issue is probably going to be fixed by adjusting the indexer block #16776 (p 48 in manual). The two bolt holes are slotted. Pushing this block towards the rear of the bench advances the shellplate further clockwise, pull it towards the edge of your bench to retard advancement."

The alignment tool Dillon sent me basically showed how far and in what direction to adjust the indexer block.

Most likely by trial error you can make the adjustment without the tool.

BTW, plus 1 👍 for your Steel Challenge dry fire banners. After the gun and timer it has been the most important training tool I have used.

Doesn't USPSA think the "problem" is there are too many GMs?  Otherwise why keep adjusting the peak times?

I wonder if they really do think this is the “problem”.
    As per SteelRankings.com and @GKB
CO with 1.1% of shooters at GM is getting the largest reduction in peak time in January.

Open with 0.8% at GM is also getting a peak time reduction.

Meanwhile, the low ready divisions with 2 to 3 times more GM’s on a percentage basis are getting little to no peak time reductions.

There must be some strategic reasons for the way peak times are adjusted, but the logic escapes me.

If there was any doubt, "B" class is where shooters get stuck.  With the exception of RFRI and PCCI (which are aberrations in their distribution), there are more B shooters than GMs, Ms, and As combined.

I would only partially agree with you.

Low ready divisions you are correct.

Holster divisions, C class is where more shooters get stuck.

In every holster division, there are more C and D class shooters than GMs, Ms, As, and Bs combined.

  6. Looks like @jrdoran has hit it out of the park!

If you want to see where you or someone else ranks in a division, you can easily search by name or member number or just scroll through the list until you find what you’re looking for.

If you want to see what the actual percentages are for someone over 100% it is now calculated for us.

Percentages based on expired times are removed from the list.

thank you for this invaluable resource

Apparently mobile ate my post.  I don't own a CZ, but I stayed in a Holiday Inn before.

To my understanding, on the firing pin block CZs, the roll pin's interaction with the corresponding notch in the firing pin defines the maximum rearward and forward travel of the firing pin, as well as retains the firing pin.  When you live fire a FPB CZ, the firing pin hitting the primer prevents the firing pin from running into the roll pin, and less momentum/energy will be transferred to the roll pin from the firing pin returning to the rearward position.  In dryfire, the firing pin will hit the roll pin at the forward end of its travel.  The hammer will prevent the firing pin from hitting the roll pin as it returns rearward.  A snap cap or an O ring will buffer or limit the amount of force transferred, respectively, which should limit or prevent damage to the roll pin.

On Tanfoglios, maximum forward travel is defined by the firing pin spring's coils touching (or the firing pin wedging itself into the firing pin spring hole, though hopefully that doesn't happen).  Maximum rearward travel and retention is defined by the firing pin hitting the firing pin stop.  Non-FPB CZs are similar (as are 1911/2011s).  There is no roll pin to be chewed up during dryfire.

So using an O-ring or snap cap isn't strictly necessary, since there isn't the same component to damage on a Tanfoglio.  It won't hurt anything, but there's no damage to prevent either.

Not trying to be a smart Alex, but I've used nothing for years and had zero issues. I also dry fire A LOT. (Makes me unsure why I'm not better at the actual game)

Same here, I have 2 Stock 2s, one with regular/consistent dry fire for more than 4 years and over 120,00 live rounds. I put a Patriot Defense extended

firing pin in it originally and never replaced it. Were and when would the expected wear or damage be visible?

Live close to the Daytona area trying to really get into steel Challenge

switching from Polymer guns to the 1911 SA platform , Glad to be here.

Welcome, if you have not already, check out Volusia County Gun Range.

Great place, all 8 steel challenge stages are always left set up in place.

And they run multiple matches every week. Gorka Ibanez, who owns it and is a great guy.

  10. I've gotten two of his holsters.

After a long wait for delivery on the first one, I too tried to contact him several times. After many weeks

I finally got a response that the order was on the way.

Disappointed as I was, I ended up liking the holster so much I ordered a 2nd and waited and waited. But knowing there would be a long lead time,

and not urgently needing it, I didn't get up tight like the first order.

Yes he could be much more communicative and professional and save himself and his customers a whole lot of head aches. BUT, in the end

I love these products and am completely glad I stuck it out. I get the idea he has grown faster than his internal infrastucture can cope with.

    Customer Service - 2 out of 10

    Product - 10 out of 10

How have things held up since your last post?

Not to good as far as reliability. I have two pretty much identical Stock 2s, both cut for 3max. In the last two years

I have lost track of how many times I have sent them in for replacement, I think about 5 times between both of them.

I love shooting with them when they run, clear glass, thin frame around the glass, wide field of view. just poor reliability.

First I'm not knocking KC by any measure, he is and will continue to be a great shooter who is both faster and more accurate than I will ever be.

But in conversation with a different division world champion, it was stated that stage wins are of zero value to him, he is there to win the match and the way you win matches is by shooting good enough and not messing up any stages bad.

Basically the math is if I take this risk I can gain 5 match points on my competition but I risk loosing 20 points I'm not doing it unless I'm behind on the last stage and those points could win the match.

Sounds like the same "different division world champion" with the initials B.S. that I heard saying the same thing.

You don't say wether your shooting open or limited. If your shooting open spray your comp before each practice session and match with Weld-All , no lead buildup.

Shooting 9mm minor in carry optics so no comp to worry about.

I and Zombiewolff and I'm lots of other guys have shot 10's of 100's of blue lube bullets. Both indoors and outdoors.

Got used to the haze from the lube burning/melting and I kinda like that smell but so much for reminiscing!

Shoot them and when your coated bullets arrive store them up until the next shortage. FWIW

I'll wait for a calm day with no wind to fire off a bunch more so i can enjoy the haze a smell!!!!

super fast super hot powders like tightgroup will be dirtier than some slower cleaner powders. Dont get insane about some lead streaks in the barrel You will do more harm to your barrel super scrubbing it than just leaving some lead in there. Save a few FMJ rounds and shoot them at the end of your session

Agree, I loaded 500 rounds of the uncoated bullets with N320 and shot them other day. They ran fine then I put 10 rounds of FMJ thru to finish up.

Aside from the gun being considerably dirtier and maybe a little more smoke in the air (but it was a windy day so i really didn't notice it much), everything else i.e., accuracy and recoil were the same as coated bullets. At home the gun and barrel cleaned up fine. I plan to load up the other 1500 rounds and use them in practice.

Thanks to all for the help!

  15. As I wait semi patiently wait for a shipment of coated bullets to come in, I am down to a few thousand 9mm 125gr .356 dia uncoated hard cast bullets.

I have only ever put coated or factory ammo thru any of my guns. Could anyone advise if it would be unwise to use them or if there is anything to watch out

for while loading them or firing them?
