  1. I’m a complete newb to competition pistol shooting. I’m wanting to get into it and be competitive. I have a plastic pistol Carry Optics setup I’m planning to use to start. That’s another topic. I bought a 5” STI Tactical 2011 in 9mm back in 2014 to use on the rare pistol stage we would have to shoot in a PRS match. It worked fine for what I needed. I would like to change some things in it and I’d like to get some advice. The sights: It has the all metal solid black front and rear. The rear notch measures .155” wide and the front post measures .130” wide. I’d like to get some sights that have a smaller notch and thinner front post with the front being fiber optic. Is there a pretty common “thinner” setup that most people use as far as a front to back measurement? Most importantly I’d like a pretty fine fiber red/green up front. The grip: This grip feels just a little large to me, but it’s ok. It just doesn’t feel “good” in my hand. I did the undercut on the trigger guard myself (yes I used a dremel on my pistol). The feel was much much better afterwards. I like a pretty high undercut for my finger to set in. Any suggestions on a different grip that is popular with a lot of shooters? It needs to be pretty aggressive as far as texture. The magwell: this magwell seems very small compared to what I see on other people’s guns. Any suggestions on a slightly larger one? I do reloads just fine with this one. It’s pretty smooth, but when placed under stress on the clock, I’m sure a larger one would help. Of course practice would also help as well. The mag release: this thing sucks. It’s too small. I have to alter my grip to drop the mag. Lastly.....if my understanding is correct, the only class I can shoot this pistol in like it is in 9mm is Limited Minor (or open.....right). I understand with the lower scoring factor of limited minor, this is not the place most people want to be shooting. So, that makes me ask the question is it worth spending any amount of money at all on this pistol to “fix it up” other than maybe changing the sights? I’d be ok shooting limited minor for a few matches to get started, but I know I’m not going to want to stay there. https://m.imgur.com/XZuuV2G https://imgur.com/gallery/VWMJvmv
  2. Can someone help me with what base pads and springs to buy for a P10C to get the max rounds in the mag and still make the 140mm limit for Carry Optics? I have both that P10C and the P10F, but I prefer shooting my C frame on my F slide. If the lesser rounds will be a handicap to me, I’ll just use the F frame. Also, what base pads and springs are you all using on the F and what are the max rounds?
  3. The issue with the slide lock on the F, and the C for that matter, is well known. My C is pretty stiff, but my F is just brutal. My thumb was bleeding today when I was done shooting. On top of being very stiff, it has an extremely sharp edge on it. Someone needs to make an aftermarket replacement that is more suited for competitive shooting.
  4. I’m new to this game, but I’ve been a long range precision rifle shooter for 9yrs. One thing I can say for sure is that I would not change to a different match rifle a couple weeks before a big match. I’d say stick with what you know until after the match. Your theory on the P10F and being able to shoot one gun for all those different matches is solid. I’m waiting on my P10F to arrive as we speak. I’ve never shot a match before, but my thought process was that I could shoot both Production and CO with the same gun.
  5. You probably just cost me some money. I have already ordered the Delta Point. I’ll have to give them a call.
  6. Yes, after thinking a moment I knew that. Just didn’t have my brain engaged.
  7. I have many pistols currently, but only one that has a red dot. It’s a Sig MK25 with a Romeo. I do not shoot this pistol often. It’s nice, but it just doesn’t fit me well. The bore axis is very high plus the added height of the red dot. This is just not a pistol I’d like to run. I have a CZ P10C that fits me very well. I shoot it well. So naturally I was looking at the P10-F OR version with a Delta Point. I have a 5” STI 2011 in 9mm, but it won’t make the weight limit. I have a CZ P07 that I like, but it’s not cut for a dot. I had already decided I’d have to buy a new pistol for this adventure. No twisting my arm there.
  8. For someone wanting to get into the Carry Optics division, what do you consider the best pistol option? I know it’s obviously the “one you shoot the best”, but with the current weight limit rule what would be your choice? Let’s say that price is not a factor here for this particular setup. Give me some direction before I make a purchase.
  9. Ok Cha-Lee. I'll get some video from the other side. I was hoping you'd see this and weigh in. Thanks.
  10. After reading all 14 pages of the recoil control thread, I came to the conclusion that I was not gripping the pistol hard enough. I'm still not sure that I am. Im trying to learn as much as possible here and I've been practicing a lot (for the past two weeks) since I decided I'd like to get better at properly shooting/controlling the gun. I think I have a ways to go. I used a much firmer grip today, kept the shoulders relaxed (to a degree) and elbows more out than in. Double taps were considerably better, but still not as tight as I'd like them to be. I was shooting at 12 yards on a full size target. Would some of you please take a look at this video and see if you can determine anything from it. It still looks like the gun has too much flip. It does settle back on target for me better than it has been however. This is with factory 9mm Speer Lawman 115gr ammo. I have some 147gr HP coming from Freedom to try also. Any tips, criticism, or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Let me start off by saying I'm a new guy. I've shot a lot, but never any actual matches. I'm wanting to start shooting some local pistol matches. I shoot in the Precison Rifle Series. Our matches rarely ever have any pistol in them. When they do, it's just one or two stages with less than 30 rounds. I have a few questions that I'd like to ask. I need some targets to practice on. I've been shooting 10" steel circles because I already had them from some spares/backups I use on my 1000 yard range. I shoot my pistol off my deck behind my house. I have the plates at 20-30 yards spaced out. These seem like pretty small targets for the distance I'm shooting compared to a lot of the videos I'm seeing on YouTube. So, my question is, what targets do you reccomed I buy? And where is a good place to buy them? Cardboard or steel? I can get steel if needed for a reduced cost. However cardboard would still be much cheaper. I've been practicing dry fire a lot. I've been working on my draw time and breaking my first shot. I'm doing this with a 1" orange dot sticky on the wall in my house at about 10-12 yards. I'd like to buy some type of timer so I can track my progress and see if I'm getting any better as I practice. What timer is a decent one that isn't too expensive. I don't mind buying a good one later if I see that this is something I'm going to get into heavily. This year pistol will still be second priority to my rifle shooting/matches. Last question. I need some more mags. I have a STI 2011 in 9mm. I currently have 2 factory mags and just got a new MBX mag in the mail today. I have searched high and low for "in stock" factory STI mags in 9mm/140mm and they are like unicorn farts. I can't find any. So, do I just suck it up and buy more MBX mags at $130 a pop, or just wait and hope some factory mags will show up somewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions, but I don't want to be a bother right out of the box. Thanks
  12. Just wanted say hello. I've been a member here for a little while, but never posted anything. I'm wanting to get into pistol shooting a bit more and I'm hoping I can pick up some good info and tips here for practice. I currently shoot in the PRS (Precision rifle series). There is only a couple of PRS matches a year that have any pistol stages in them and when they do, it's usually less than 20 rounds. I'd like to try shooting some small informal pistol matches of some sort to see where my skill level is and get an idea of what equipment I might need. I currently shoot a STI 2011 5" Tactical with the bull barrel and full length dust cover. The pistol is completely stock other than the small modifications I made to the grip myself. I've got about 2000 rounds through it so far and I love it. I'd like to upgrade my sights to something a bit finer. When I get out to 40-50 yards, the front sight is very large and covers the target (10" plates). Any advice on sight upgrades would be greatly appreciated. I have several other questions, but I'll try to post them in the appropriate sub forums. If anyone is in my neck of the woods that could give me some tips, let me know. I'd be glad to trade pistol tips for long range Precison Rifle tips/practice. Thanks.
  13. Hey guys, I compete in long range precision rifle shooting and really enjoy it. I'm trying to get prepared to venture into some 3 Gun. My pistol is a 5.25" XDM in 9mm. I've recently ordered the Dawson Ice magwell and some of the EZ-Off Dawson base pads. I plan to order a PRP drop in trigger this week. I'd like to replace my sights as well. I practice on a 6" and 8" plate at 30 and 40 yards. At this distance, the front fiber optic is almost as big as the target. Can someone please recommend a good brand of replacement that is smaller? What size do some of you guys use? Also, if some of you are 3 Gunners and already know that a bigger or smaller front sight will be better, please let me know. I know nothing about this game. I'm here to learn. Thanks,
  14. Hey guys, just wanted to say hello. I shoot in the PRS series and with the OPPS guys. This is just precision rifle shooting at distance. I've been watching some 3 Gun stuff and would really like to give it a try. It looks like a lot of fun and very action packed. I've always enjoyed shooting a pistol and a shotgun as well. I came here hoping to get some info on matches that I could check out. Thanks,
