  1. Of course 9mm is more popular. You obviously have been around long enough to know why. I sold my STI's, including my .40 open, a couple of years ago. I find myself wanting to try open again when I can afford a new build, but I want to do it with Glock (ZEV) and in .40 again. It's just easier for me to get into, b/c I prefer loading .40 and I already have all the mags I need to make it happen. I don't feel that I was at much of a disadvantage shooting the .40 open. Sure there was some disadvantage, but I'm not a contender to win nationals either, so it doesn't matter to me. If money was not an issue, I'd go with an STI in .38 super comp. I don't think there's any dispute that super comp is the best cartridge for open division. But it's at an expense that I cannot afford.

  2. I feel like I'd like to try a Trijicon RMR, Dual Iluminated green dot, 9 moa low mounted to a Glock slide. I don't know if it would be the most competitive thing out there, but it would be fun. I want the slide mount b/c I prefer to stick with a standard kydex holster. Also the reason I'm not running a thumb rest in Limited.

  3. Doesn't matter which game, or if in real life. It is not safe to holster a "cocked and unlocked" gun. DA guns need to have the hammer down. Manual safety, like the Beretta's, does not need to be applied when decocked and in the holster.

  4. BBI purchased Masterblaster's equipment/coating formula many years ago.

I shoot Rainier Ballistics plated bullets. I use the 180's in Limited. I have used the 165's as well, but prefer 180's. I use the 124's in Production. I have used the 135's in Open (40 cal) with good results as well.

  5. That is my favorite mag release button for the Beretta. It's from the 92 and 96 Stock and Combat models. Also the Billennium. I seriously doubt they made 20,000 of any of those models. IDPA used to have a limit of how tall the mag button could be. Not sure if that was revised in the new rulebook that took effect 10-1-2013.

You think $40 is expensive for a mag button? It is a bit steep, but this one is $125. http://bulletworks.com/bulletworks/R.Side_Mag_Catch.html

  6. I just got one of those extensions for my 22rd mag and with 357 sig I get 26 rounds in it. I think it's a pretty good set up. I double checked mine on the gage and it looks like I need to think ake a couple thousands off think ake he back of the feed lips to be legal but it's really close.

    Mike

I got one and I agree. I took a few strokes with the file off the back corner of the feed lips to get it to fit the mag gauge. Awesome product. Now I just need that G22 open top end.

  7. Any Glock 40 Open shooters out there using the 22 round Glock factory mag with Taylor Freelance 170mm +3 Supercap basepad? Seems like the best option for a 170mm to me.

  8. Oops forgot pic...first time attaching pic on enos. Sorry guys

That is an amazing looking gun. Not counting the old IPSC Modified guns, I think you have the record for most money spent on a 40 open gun.

  9. At the end of the day, it is a competition and you get to see how you ranked among your peers. I started shooting IDPA this year so that I would be forced to use my carry gun. Now that the new rules are about to be in effect, I don't have a desire to continue. I'll shoot a compact in USPSA from time to time. That is funny though, shooting an open gun from behind cover!

  10. Here's a link to the 40 Open thread I started years ago.

I was competitive with mine. The truth is:

    Resale value will be low.

You will save money if you don't need to buy new mags. This is huge if you're on the STI platform.

You won't need new dies for your press if all you have is .40 S&W.

You'll be down in mag capacity vs. the 9/38 guys. This won't matter unless the stage is 25-29 rounds. Otherwise everyone reloads the same.

You're on your own for load development. Everyone's setup seems to be different with regard to barrel length, choice of comp, favorite bullet mfr and favorite powder. I tried 180, 165, 155, 140 and 135gr bullets. Ultimately 135gr Rainiers worked the best for me with Alliant Power Pistol. YMMV.

If I ever shoot open again, I would seriously entertain doing it in 40.

  11. Keep the powder charge from your major load and reduce the bullet weight. Go to a 155, 140, or 135gr bullet.

I found this worked better for me after I tried keeping the 180gr bullet and reducing the powder charge.

  12. If you see the red laser while you're moving, you've just DQed. Not sure that I would train that way. Bad habbit. I swear I'm going to get a SIRT before the year is up. I might sell a prize table gun to get one.

  13. That gun is not sexy. The slide sticks out past the end of the frame. They can't even get the parts to line up? I don't like how the sides of the frame are flat across the whole thing. I like how the frame of the Beretta steps up to different levels. That's sexy. I also feel that there's not enough slide on the CZ to grab onto, especially the models with a sharp rear sight blade. It is comfortable in the hand, I'll give it that.
