I have that cart with the DAA medium size backpack. It barely fits, so the pro model (which is bigger) would be too large.

Also, if starting over, I probably wouldn’t have gone in that direction. A couple of my friends use the regular Zuca rolling cart (the type used for figure skating, but with modified wheels), and it is a more compact offering. Also can find them relatively cheap on Craigslist.

I assume you have the regular Backpack Cart not the Large? Because my friend has the large and the DAA Medium bag fits with plenty of room. I am debating getting the smaller Regular Backpack Cart as long as the medium bag actually fits it.

You mention you would consider another direction, do you have a link to that cart your referencing?

2. I'm totally willing to learn something. Is there any way to make a shadow 2 SSP legal?

A year ago I think definitely not. Now though it could be possible but only internal weight reduction would be required. Any external such as slide cuts immediately puts you into ESP. I think CZC was working on this a while back where they took more weight not just out of the slide but also out of the frame In areas that were not external

3. I looked at a sight-plate mounted dot (SRO, steel frame TF Limited Pro) on 600 and 1200 fps high speed video and saw no sign of flex or movement in the dot versus the slide.  The dot does what the slide does.  This is not the case of frame-mounted Open dots at the same video speeds.

There's very little force applied at ignition. (vibration may be a different story.  That's difficult to see on video and can cause all kinds of weird breakages anywhere along the way).  Then there is a strong pull backwards, the sudden stop at the end of travel and the spring forward and ride to a stop there.

FWIW, Years ago I put an accelerometer on a Limited gun slide and saw up to 40G peak force at recoil and around half that at closing with a Major spring setup.

This is in regards to both slide mounted optics, no frame mounted comparison. Slide milled direct for optic versus slide milled with a plate adapter system for optic.

I don't either, but after reading your process, my guess is that it could be my process.  I stand about 10' away, I don't shoot from a rest.  My SD is 16, my rounds are loaded to 1.17 (ish), some are a little longer, some a little shorter.  My average PF is 172.  Could I drop my charge a tenth or two, probably, but then I'm on the edge. I have a full length KKM Hybrid barrel with a short binary comp and two 3/16th holes and use CCI and Remington SRP's.

Side note, I did notice that I've got some over gas occurring at times (one out of the three shots I took from 2' had more spatter than the other two) so I decided to try Shooter's World Auto Pistol and CFE Pistol as a test.  With the SWAP, which is comparable to HS-6, I was at 8.1 grains; and with CFE I was at 6.9 grains (to make the same PF at my SWMP Load) - my SD's were 16 and 15 respectively.  Lastly, I loaded 9 rounds in a mag, three of each load.  I put them on a table and mixed them up, then loaded them into the mag.  I wanted as blind a test as I could muster on my own.  I noticed that the recoil impulse and dot movement were virtually identical between the three.  I wouldn't have been able to tell you which round fired had what powder behind it.  Originally I was thinking that maybe that extra gas was causing some unwanted muzzle rise.  In the end, I don't think it really matters that much or that it wasn't enough gas to actually matter.

this is also worth a shot at looking at. But to make sure your scale is calibrated. Probably the least likely but worth a look.

See above for barrel and load data.  Gun is a full custom 2011.

I love Silhouette.  I used it for years in my 172 PF Open load.  When I switched to MP powder, the gun shot a lot softer and flatter.  When I finish the 12 lbs. I have left I might move to AA7 for no other reason than it is made in the USA.  It is the same powder, just made here instead of Europe.

I use AA7 mostly but have been playing with the SWM. In fact i have 16pounds of AA7 arriving today. I find the SWM a tiny bit softer but it seems much fiber powder and was giving me consistency issues with my powder measure. I don’t know for sure if it is fact finer but it appears that way, i would have to measure two charges side by side. The powder measure issue may be related to other issues though I haven’t diagnosed yet. The AA7 has been very reliable for me and I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

You are using about as much powder under a 124 as I am under a 115.  My load is CCI500, 10.2gr MP, 115 HAP @ 1.161" OAL fired out of a 5" Trubore barrel with custom comp cuts and two 3/16" poppels for 169 PF.   SD for the last 15-shot string was 5.9.

My chrono technique is the same I use for everything except shotshells.  Chrono is exactly 10' from the muzzle, because that is how the chrono station at matches is set up.  BTW, the chono station has always reported the same PF as I get in testing.  Chrono is completely in the shade.  I use the IR illuminators, because I get more consistent results and don't have to worry about cloud movement, etc.  I also shoot from a rest and make sure the bullet path is down the long axis of the chrono and parallel to the sensor ports.

Your doing all the right things then! Many times people aren’t and that’s usually where the problem starts. Extra kudos shooting from the rest for a straight bullet path, that’s a true chrono pro tip lol.

I am shooting out of a PT Honcho with no Popple holes. The barrel is 4.25” and then 2 1/8” of comp. Running OAL at 1.165 and 124gn JHP from Precision Delta.

Being that my barrel is 3/4” shorter than yours I think it’s normal that I would have almost a 7-10% reduction in velocity. Hence I need more powder to make PF.

This is consistent with other Honcho owners and many other open gun owners in this thread shooting about 10.0 +/- grains of SWM to make about 170 +/- PF with a 124gn bullet. Guys running 5”+ guns prolly are able to use a few grains less due to increased velocity from longer barrel.

In summary there is absolutely nothing wrong with the batch of powder I received. It appears only the one shooter who got the powder with the wrong label is experiencing a problem with his powder. I just want to clarify that because anyone reading this thread seeing a few of us go back and forth about velocity are going to get the wrong impression and assume there is some widespread problem with this powder if they don’t read every post and I just don’t think that’s the case.

514 is the lot number I have that is considerably slower than the first batch I received. My 8 lb. canister is also mislabeled with Rifle instead of pistol. I purchased this a couple of months ago from Powder Valley. Shooters World said the label was wrong but powder was correct. It took .8 of a grain to reach the same power factor as first batch. Not sure if I am going o reorder.

Can you post your specs? It looks like two other guys have this lot now too but havnt heard anything bad about it from them. It seems to fine for me.

I still don't understand why you guys need so much powder.  I'm at 10.2 under a 115 ! 169 PF.

What do you mean so much powder? I am using 10.1 for 124 bullet. I incorrectly stated my PF it’s at 169 for that load and it’s at 171 for my previous load at 10.2. I think that’s normal.

Heavier bullets typically require less powder due to longer length.

Other factors come into play tho like what gun are you shooting, what barrel length, and do you have popple holes?

I am in NJ and my last chrono session was at 53F for the temp and 30.4 for the barometric pressure.

How far is your chrono from the end of your barrel? Mine is exactly 10 feet away I measure with tape measure every time. If your estimating or going 10-15ft away your going to get some differences. This is usually the case I find when there is discrepancy with different guys running close to the same load.

Also I make sure to chrono when I have nice overcast exactly what the chrono calls for, but if your chrono in direct sunlight without the sun shields or overcast and using the diffuser then you may not have the appropriate amount of light. If you have overcast then don’t use the diffuser for more accurate chrono.

Thanks for the info. It seems at least 1-2 other forums members posted similar experiences with that lot number.

hurley326, I'm wondering if you received a more recently produced lot than the notoriously slow 102219 314 lot?

I just contacted Graf's and Midsouth to ask what lot numbers they currently have in stock; both said they would give me a call back later this afternoon with an answer. I'll post an update here once they do.

Here is the lot I received. This was from Powder Valley about 2 months ago I think.

10. I have several pistols with dots on them.

Two CO guns with adapter plates and Gen 1 Delta points I bought used and put 15,000 plus on each myself. Still going strong.

Another CO gun with adapter plate with a Vortex Venom. Not too many rounds, still going.

DVC-open with RTS2 on frame mount. First one cracked lens within 30 rounds, second one lasted 4000 then the diode lost some of the image.

The slide ride C-more seems to be built like a truck, but kinda big.

Just my experience.

This is just comparing both slide mounted options. Direct milling into slide and then adapter plate on slide. Frame mounted is a different ballpark.

Have two Glock slides milled for the same optic.

#1 was milled locally and does not have the locator pins milled in just flat

and held in/on 100% by the screws. This ones sight has failed three times.

#2 was CNC milled with the locator pins and just held down with the screws.

This ones sight has never failed and currently has three times the rounds

         fired compared to #1.

All plate systems have the locator pins I be-leave this is the key.

this is a very interesting variable that I did not think of! Thanks for sharing

12.

In full disclosure this is related to slide mounted optics opposed to a true open pistol. I didn’t find a carry optic topic so figured could go here.

Currently debating a statement a fellow shooter made, “several instructors report that they see most slide mounted optic failures, on steel framed guns with a direct milled optic compared to plate mounted systems on polymer guns (think MOS). Because of this they believe that the plate mounted systems last longer due to the plate providing a buffer mitigating “harmonics” aspect of recoil and thus increased wear on the optic.“

I disagree and think it’s a very weak theory implying that correlation equals causation. I believe it’s more likely that there are higher failure rates on direct milled slides due to those guns seeing significantly higher round counts than plated systems like on a Glock MOS. Someone who pays to have their slide milled likely shoots more than the casual shooter who picks up a OEM plate mounted option. Not always but i think it’s fairly accurate. I’m not an engineer so I am not denying that a plate could provide some buffer from “harmonics” as they said but I doubt that aspect contributes to the wear and tear anywhere near the level of reciprocating force that is applied in both options. Also on the claim they made on steel frame vs polymer, I would think a steel framed gun would have less recoil due to the weight than a polymer framed gun further refuting their claim above.

I reached out to Trijicon who stated it is the recoil that wears out these optics and that their testing shows that there is no difference in a modular system like the MOS vs a direct milled option. They also rate their optics based on a direct milled testing method resulting in 30k+ round lifetime.

So what does everyone else think?

Which one is more likely, that failures are due to harmonics wear or mostly dependent on round count?

How much, if any merit does the plate mitigating harmonics wear and tear have?

Is there any merit to the claim that a steel framed gun will put more wear on a slide mounted optic than a polymer frame mounted optic?

13. I have used AA7 and SWMP for 9 major and the SWMP does feel flatter than AA7 but that’s for 9major, I never used it for 38sc. What’s your load?

14. I was going back and forth between the 2. I experienced the same unburt powder using the SWM. Someone on another thread advised of a tighter crimp which I tried and that did help out but I only ran 20 rounds through it so it may not have been the best case study. Although previously 20 rounds would have left the gun with more powder than your showing in those pictures. I would feel more comfortable saying it fully solved the problem if I ran an entire match with that load of SWM. I am waiting for a case of PD bullets to get here now and will be working up more of the SWM loads and try to compare during a match.

I do feel in my other test runs that it does feel somewhat flatter than AA7. I am running 10.2 grains of SWM at 1.165 OAL under a 124gn JHP from Precision Delta. 170 PF and MUCH lower SD than AA7.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look everything over closely.

I will say I was not very impressed with the buying experience, considering I spent about $3500 (9mm Evo + required conversion parts for .223).

- I bought through DAA, and the 9mm Evo wasn't in stock even though the website said it was.

- DAA let me know and told me Mark 7 would ship it to me directly. They were also concerned about it being shipped to an apartment and asked if I would be home (this is good), but when I said I probably would be (because I work from home)  & asked for Signature Confirmation so I could sign for it, I never received any response.

- After 7-10 days or so, I hadn't heard anything, so I used Mark 7's chat on their site to get in touch with them to check in with where things were at & ask a few other random questions I had (still need to buy some things). Had pretty good communication, but was told it was "on the shipping dock" and was "shipping the next day"... but was later contacted and said that that wasn't actually true and that they were waiting on a backordered item themselves (9mm shellplate, I think). They did say that they would do Signature Confirmation on the order. When I replied I asked a bunch of more questions to the sales rep, and they never replied until I sent another extra email a week later.

- When I finally received the order, it shipped from DAA and not Mark 7 and there was no Signature Confirmation. Luckily, I was home at the time and got the order just fine, but this annoyed me after the above things that had happened.

Not sure why so many companies in the gun industry are so bad at communication/customer service, but it really gets old.

FWIW, I bought from DAA because they had a 5% off sale for President's Day, and because I'd have to pay sales tax if I bought from Mark 7 directly (I'm in FL).

Anyway, haven't got around to unpacking it yet, because I don't yet have dies anyway and have been busy with work. Going to dig through it and make sure everything is there this weekend.

Anyone know anything about the new Lyman dies that are coming out? Think they are worth waiting for?

No I don’t think they are worth waiting for. Get your press up and running you will love it. I agree with you about basic customer service aspects many companies struggle with. Sucks when it’s a company with an amazing product too. Regardless if they make it right or not it’s unfortunate to have the subpar experience that tends to stick in your head

Plenty of other great dies available. FW Arms if you’re doing rifle for Decap and swage, if only pistol then Mighty Armory for both. Redding for sizing die or MA new sizing die (verdict isn’t out on this yet but i bought it), Lyman M die with DAA expander put inside it for flare, Redding comp micrometer seating die and either Redding micrometer crimp die or Lee FCD or really any taper crimp die.

I think Lyman is just bundling these all together in their own design so you don’t need to go to different sources but I rarely find that one company can be best at everything so I like the mix and match dies. They are stainless steel so they won’t rust which is also nice but if you spray other dies with something like Baristol every year or so they won’t rust either and many are even coated of the ones I mentioned above.

Check to make sure all parts are in the box. Mine arrived Tuesday... they forgot the feet and mounting hardware. Not a huge deal as I don’t need to use right away but they left parts out of my Revo too. One of my toolheads came without one of the pins. They need to work on their outgoing quality checks.

A month or so ago they shipped one of my toolheads also without the bracket and guide rod that inserts into the long spring. Also received a toolhead that was all dinged up like it had been dropped on the floor. They fixed each issue but was surprised for that to happen after spending so much money.

Not true.  Please reread.

You should also reread because I specifically said 2 guys and that they HAD issues but have been addressed. How did you miss that?

Just pointing out it’s not a plethora of problems at all.

18. MBX, no modifying at all just take them out of package and use them. Done deal. This is consistent to practically ever Honcho owner you will talk to. I am sure others may work also but if your starting from  scratch just go MBX was overwhelming advice I received and I am very happy I listened.

19. 32 minutes ago, Raymundo said:

I’ve been thinking about one of these but I’m hesitant.  It doesn’t seem like they have  all the production issues worked out yet.  The team shooters say they’re awesome but it seems like almost everyone else is experiencing problems.

There has been maybe a few guys with issues and if you re read the thread you’ll see that most of it wasn’t what it appeared to be. You had one guy saying he knew a guy with all these issues and the real guy finally comes on and clears the air on what really happened. You have the owners commenting on threads and Facebook posts eager to help people with any issues should they pop up. Talk about high quality customer service.

I own a Honcho since November and I am not sponsored by them or a team shooter and I love the gun. I’ve had no issues what so ever with it. I’m coming from shooting a CZ Shadow 2 from Cajun and a CZ TSO. The Honcho is superior in every way from fit/finish to accuracy and styling.

I improperly loaded 9.3 grains of Titegroup into a 9mm Major round by accident bc I got my powder drops mixed up and had a round explode when I fired. It destroyed the back of the case and deformed the round in the magazine behind it. The round barely putted out of the gun and the case was somewhat stuck. I took a brass rod in the barrel with a few light taps and it came out. My hands where covered in black lines from the powder in every area there gas could escape. This would have destroyed some guns or caused accuracy or other issues. This gun is a tank and ate it. I’ve been using it in every match with the same barrel and I’ve been shooting better than I ever have. There is nothing wrong with it at all. That is a testament of how great the quality is for this gun.

People tend to come online to bitch about things more so than they do to praise a product so you can’t really take a few posts as the normal standard. I would say there are more people even in this thread with a positive experience with the gun rather than the maybe 2 people that HAD an unclear “bad issue” with the gun. Looks like any rare issues have been remedied. Let me know if you have any questions about the gun, I am happy to help out as an unbiased 3rd party.

That alone speaks volumes.

me being one of the most vocal on this thread in support of the product, Ironically agrees with you on this. I don’t even know why Saul is suggesting this. It’s not even needed as lubrication of the ramp and also of the disc tray have been sufficient bough to solve the problems with the machine. Spraying primers is stupid and unnecessary!
