  1. It's my HD/carry, so there's always one loaded, and I rotate them every couple days or so. I only have 2 mags so far, but I am planning on ordering a few more once my tax return comes through. I found a video on YouTube that shows how to take it apart, and it is really simple. I use a small Philips screw driver as my "armorers tool" for now
  2. I was spoiled when I first started shooting with a LEO issued Beretta M9. I love the full metal frame and the recoil management is amazing That being said, a Beretta around here is somewhere in the upper 600's to low 700's, so I bought a Glock 22 in .40. Before I went to the academy, I had a strong dislike of plastic frame guns. After my firearms course, I learned to love the glock. I'm with you on the XD, I think it's an ugly design, but firearms are all about what you're comfortable shooting. I hated the glock initially, but with time and practice, I learned its quirks and how to counter them, and now I own one.
  3. Didn't realize that there was different forms of the same thing. Thanks for all the info, I'll go check out those websites and see what I'll learn there. I plan on using a Glock 22 for carry and competitions, so there won't be a lot that I would do to it so I can still conceal it. The only holster I have so far is a inside the belt/outside the waistband concealment holster, but I can draw easily from it so I may start off with that until I can afford a level 1 holster. I'm still in the gear collection stage at this point, so I'm looking for new mags, mag pouches, etc.
  4. I've been reading a lot about competition shooting, bu I can't seem to figure out the difference between major and minor loads. I know it has something to do with gun powder, but where is the line? Also, I want to start shooting Production, so will I be shooting major or minor?
  5. I typically listen to Country music, but that's my preference for almost anything I'm doing alone
  6. Dry-firing is a teqnique used for many purposes. I initially used it to learn my trigger pull and reset, then started to add empty reloads and time transitions I'm still working on all of those as I only just bought my first gun a couple of weeks ago. Maybe some more experienced shooters can give you other purposes to use it To dry-fire a weapon 1. Check to make sure it's empty and safe. 2. Point the weapon in a safe direction 3. Squeeze the trigger until the hammer/striker hits 4. While holding the trigger down, work the slide to reset the firing mechanism and repeat Please correct me if I'm wrong, this is all from my training in the police academy
  7. What is the weight limit for production? I read the whole thread and googled it, and didn't see anything except for something about adding 10-12oz for limited. According to Wikipedia the unloaded weight is 22.92oz, so is this the limit?
  8. There were a few guys like that in my academy. It was a LEO academy in South Florida
  9. I can actually see the back of the round moving through the little holes in the back. I'm thinking it might be the spring itself. I cleaned the one with the issue to no avail. It rattles with 12 rounds, but stops at 14 rounds
  10. Hello Forum, I found this forum looking for information about shooting competitions, and I really like the way this forum is laid out. I have a stock, used G22 that I would like to modify and start shooting in local competitions. My experience with firearms is slightly limited, but I was the top shot in my academy class. Thanks all - Jack
  11. I'll try cleaning inside the mag. Also, I have an identical mag that looks like it was from the time when mag capacity was restricted, having the "GOVT/LE Use Only" stamp, that doesn't do it.

    Magazine issue

I went to the range yesterday and had a good time. This morning when I went to lock up my gun, it rattled. After a little investigation, I found that the round in the magazine that sits against the follower is loose. I took the mag apart and everything looks ok to me, but I've never had a mag apart before. Has anyone else had this issue? Edit - It's a factory 15round magazine
  13. When I was shooting in the academy, some of the other recruits were having this issue and fixed it by making sure their thumb wasn't holding the slide release while they were firing. I don't know if this is your issue, but it may be worth looking into
