  1. It is quite fast powder and meters above average. Proceed with caution with heavier bullets because of the very small charge weights needed.

Ramshot's book says for plated 147gr PLATED bullet is 2.6gr starting and 3.0gr max.

I started doing 2.6, 2.8 and 3.0 none could cycle my stock glock 34. i looked at the primers and there was no sign of overpressure at 3.0gr grains.

So then i went to 3.2 and 3.4 and still could not cycle and no signs of overpressure. At this point accuracy was starting to get better as well.

I stopped at 3.6gr at 1.135 OAL when the gun cycled 100% with no signs of overpressure on the primer.

I've loaded over 10,000 loads with this data.

    147gr Xtreme plated round nose

    3.6gr Ramshot comp

    1.135 OAL

    mixed brass

tula, win, fed, and cci primers used.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

  2. I just purchased some Ramshot Competition this past weekend at a local gunshow here in southwest FL The price was right ($19.00 per 14oz. Keg which was $10/keg cheaper than a guy two rows down from him). I do see some published data for 9mm and 40 on Ramshot's website but it's very rarely mentioned here on BE's forums as anyone's favorite, or at least not that I've seen. I'm going to load some up with 147gr Blue Bullets and try it out later this week. Anyone have any experience with Ramshot Competition that wants to share?

  3. I just recieved and loaded up some 147gr Blue Bullets this weekend. I was hoping that they would not come with the lube groove but they did. It really didn't matter though. They loaded up fine. The only issue was some, not all, were about .001 larger than the rest. Approximately 1 in every 10 were like this. Again, they loaded fine and shot surprisingly well. The 9mm Lonewolf conversion barrel for a G23 did'nt like the profile of the 147's so I had to shorten the OAL to 1.12. But with a normal stock glock 9mm barrel, they were perfectly fine with longer OAL's.(1.14 &1.15 tested with a freinds G17, G19 and G34). As far as accuracy, I could not see any difference than plated (Rainiers) and after 300 rds there was no FTF's or leading or any blue residue in the barrel at all. All in all, I will continue to use these Blue Bullets and save some money comared to plated.

My load ended up to be this.

    147gr Blue Bullet FP

    3.4grs IMR PB

    CCI spp

    OAL 1.12

    No Chrono data - sorry

  4. Great idea. What do you guys do with hall the 380 brass?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

When I saved enough of it I felt obligated to buy a set of dies and a pistol in that caliber.

    True story.

Its funny you say that... I've thought of doing the very same. I've got tons of 380 brass (well... not tons literally but I've got alot). The G42 looks promising although no LGS in my are has one yet.

  5. I dont have any problems with federal primers, but I do avoid buying them beacause they come in a ridiculous huge box. It takes up a lot of room shipping and storing them when you've got 30k of them sitting around. I just avoid them for that not that they ever gave me any problems.

+1 here, the 1K box is litterally 3 times the size of a 1K CCI box.. Waste of space.

  6. Reload it until it splits.

    This.

I've loaded some pretty crappy looking brass and nothing has been a problem yet..

Same here, I primarily use the ugly ducklings when working up loads. I'll load the mags in private so nobody sees em'. They perform fine, just tough to look at... Kinda like me.

  7. I'm supposed to get my Classic Cast O press monday, I haven't had any problems with the little C press other than the aluminum body bore becoming enlarged. I've always kept it lubricated, but, I think the primer powder residue is pretty abrasive and I haven't found a way to keep it off the lube on the ram. Will see how the cast iron holds up.

I'll send the other in and get a new body for it - according to a Lee service rep - as it's only about 18 months old.

Think the new press will be better as the primer drops down the ram instead of coming out of the back of the ram and then into a slot in the body. That is where all the residue comes from and the new one should have it all going down the tube attached to the bottom of the ram.

I know what you mean about primer coming out the back of the ram rod. All that mess (spent powder and range sand) just clings to the grease coated ram, quickly ruining the aluminum C body. Will Lee replace the body for free Steve?

  8. Thanks for the info guys. I am not sorting by headstamp. Maybe I should.

Generally, I'm noticing that the tightest primer pockets are from the S&B and federal brass. They fire just fine but when priming using the RCBS hand tool, I feel a slight "ker chunk" (like my technical term?) when the primer seats. It makes me nervous. But then again, maybe its the tool or the CCI primers im using. Who knows.

Regardless, I now what to look for when watching for primer flow.

    Thanks again

  9. She is limp wristing the pistol. By letting the gun move so much it robs the gun of energy to operate the slide. Same thing happens to some shooters when they shoot weak hand only.

Just needs to work on grip and grip strength

I've seen this with my daughter many times when first started shooting my reloads. Once she learned to lock her wrists and use a stronger grip, the stove pipes went away.

  10. Newbie question guys and forgive me if its a stupid one but I'm still learning. I'm relatively new to loading ( for several months now) but can anyone define what primer flow is? I've seen many references in these forums as to watching for primer flow when upping your powder charge while trying to make PF. I'm assuming it has something to with blowing the primer out of the back of the casing if your load is too hot. I'm curious and cautious as the reason I'm asking is I primarily use range pickup brass with no clue as to how many times some of my cases have been fired. I've never had any misfires or failures so far due to some paranoia on my part as continually run into brass that the primers sink or seat way to easily or way to hard. It's not that many I suppose, maybe a couple two or three for every hundred. But if it doesn't feel right when seating with my RCBS hand primer loader, I toss em. But anyway, what do you guys mean exactly when you say to watch for primer flow?

    Thanks, Dan

  11. Robert, spend a half hour one day reading the old postings under FORUMS - Reloading - 9mm.

You'll be amazed how many issues you'll solve for yourself by relying on the past experiences of

the pioneers who have gone before you - right here on BE.

+1 - I couldn't agree more. I'm a new reloader as well. I can't begin to tell you how much I've learned from these guys here on BE.

  12. I will be using 180 rnfp Xtreme bullets, I already load 5.1gr of win 231 and it shoots pretty good out of my G23 but it seems like it has more kick out of the G35, scratching my head, maybe powder speed is not a good match for the longer barrell.. I may start shooting local match and would like to make major PF

, I have Clays , 700X, 800X, win 231, HP38 and a couple of others, Ive been Loading on a Dillon 650 since 1992 and just started loading on a SL900 for my sporting clays habit.

I do not use any of those same powders you use but I do see the same results with the powders I use. I also have a G23 and a G35. If I work up a load for the G23 and get it where I want it. The action/behavior is slightly more harsh out of the G35 with that same load. I think it has to do with the longer barrel, not your powder. I think anyway.

FYI, i've only used BlueDot, IMR-PB and IMR SR4756 under sever different bullet wieghts. The heavier the bullet the better in my experience.

  13. Oddly enough, a guy showed up with one of these at an IDPA match last night. It wasn't a brass mower brand, it was something else (i forgot). It worked so so.. I watched him roll the thing over a couple peices of brass about 8 to 10 times before it finally grabbed them. Granted, it was easier on the back, and the ground at the range it pretty trecherous but he was constantly slowing the match down rolling it around. The RO for our squad finally had to tell him to put it away. LOL It was a good conversation piece.

  14. I've just ordered the 750 rd small flat rate box of 147gr. I'm curious as to how the flat point profile will perform in my Glock. I've never shot FP in a 9mm.

I cant imagine they will be anything less than perfect. Ive never had any issues at all after the tons of them I have shot through my XDM.

Agreed and I'm anticipating success. I've loaded and shot nothing but FP's out of my G35 .40 S&W. I'm anxcious to load some of these up. If they work, I'll save more than $20.00 / 1K compared to plated.
