  1. Hi All,

With the extra time on my hands, I'd like to get reloading 223 sorted out so that I can shoot it more.  Not ultra precision rifle rounds, just blasting ammo.  I can do painstaking reloading, but for the blaster ammo I need to process brass way faster.  I'm looking at the Lyman and Frankford Arsenal case prep centers primarily.   The FA can trim brass, but I might be able to mount a WCT trimmer on a non-trimming FA model for cheaper.  The Lyman model has more stations and is cheaper, but I'd need to spend another $40 to get a WCT trimmer set up on it.

What do you all recommend? Is there a model I'm overlooking or does anyone have experience with both?  Is one quieter than the others?

  2. When the grocery stores are starting to get bare and people get fearful, there will definitely be a run on factory ammo and then on components.  I'm not going to panic.  But at some point it is wise to be buying, if you don't want to be left with none yourself.  I personally ought to buy enough primers to get through the season.   And then with D nominees stances on guns, it seems like we could have another drought coming if the ammo and component makers didn't, after the last drought, increase their production capacities for future events.

  3. Yes, that's my TS and the long reach trigger made a huge difference for me. I highly recommend the trigger if the extra reach will get your trigger finger into a more natural position. I do think it pretty much eliminated trigger freeze for me.

  4. Smacking a mag down on its base plate usually makes it easier to get the last round in for me. I'd rather do that than jam it in the pistol several times. Also, I can't help but wonder if it would make a difference to polish the surface on that long rib on the bottom of the slide that drags on the top round.

  5. Davidson defense has some very inexpensive drop-in triggers that are 90-120, and 2.5 to 3 lbs. One person in this thread suggested the 3-gun trigger. Anyone else have experience with these? The price is great. The longevity is what I'm concerned about. The oddball descriptions on their website does mention using high- grade steel, but poorly written text either means " dont trust them" or that it was written by the machinist, not a marketing guy.

  6. UPDATE.

So, I wrote my original post just over seven months ago. Since then, I've put approximately 2,000 rounds through the PSA AR-9 and noticed a problem. It is eating Glock 33 mags. I noticed it at a match in November when I experienced numerous failures to fire, which turned it into a bolt action PCC. I couldn't figure out what was happening, until I took a closer look at the magazine. The front lip of the mag was broken and pushed forward. The result was that the mag got "bigger" such that it would not drop free and created all manner of feeding malfunctions.

At the time, I thought the issue was a single bad magazine. So, I threw it away and started using a new one. After approximately 300 rounds, the same thing started happening with the new mag. Hmmm, must be the gun.

After further inspection, I noticed that the magazine sits very loose in the magwell and there is a lot of play both side-to-side and up-and-down. I suspect that this play allows the magazine to move up from time to time under rapid fire, causing the lower part of the bolt to catch the front lip and stress it over time until it first enlarges and then breaks. This is my first AR-9 and don't know if that is normal or not, but clearly not the case with any of my other AR type rifles.

I contacted PSA and they said to send it back. I sent them the requested information three days ago, but have yet to receive an RMA and shipping label. PSA is notoriously slow (sigh).

In the meantime, I wonder if a different lower (e.g., Foxtrot Mike) would fix the issue. I am reluctant to throw money at the problem until I give PSA the opportunity to make it right.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?
If you mags can move up and down, is you mag release also moving up and down?

  7. I've shot other Limited shooters' non-TG ammo side by side with mine. No difference at all. If it runs, has a recoil impulse I'm fine with, I see no advantage to changing over to a more expensive and less common powder.

  8. There's a reason a ton of people use titegroup for .40 major. It works great. You just have to clean your gun more often. I use it for all my pistol reloading, it keeps things simple.

  9. In a thread in the reloading section, a guy named CZ-Cliff said that his TSO in 40 caliber needed to be sent back to CZ to be fixed and the gunsmith at CZ-USA told him they couldn't fix or replace it because they have discontinued that caliber. Can anyone confirm?

This is a big deal to me, as Limited is my division and nothing fits my hands like a TS/TSO. I dont expect my current pistol to last forever.

  10. I had a low ride Wilson safety back when I had a 1911.  I loved it, it allowed me to use a more natural thumbs-forward grip.  I shoot CZs now and the thumb safetys on those are more like a low ride 1911 safety.  It's almost as if they accounted for a normal human hand when they placed the lever.

  11. Hi,

I have noticed that if I travel to a match and stay in a hotel, or if I have to get up at 4:XX AM to get to a distant match, I can end up in a mental fog that just won't go away, and I end up shooting in a way that isn't anything like how I shoot a local match.  Usually it's a level 2 or higher match.  Insomnia + sleeping in a weird hotel bed doesn't help.  And I'm sure it's not nervousness.

I can't be the only one who has dealt with this.   More caffeine seems like a bad approach, but I do see some high performing guys drinking a 20oz can of jet fuel with breakfast.  What have you guys found to help with getting your mind sharp after the coma of a long drive or after a really bad night's sleep?

  12. A tip: it can be difficult to get the very thick jb weld to go down smooth. Just get it reasonably smooth, sprinkle a heavy layer of silicon carbide over it all, tip the piece to allow the excess to fall off, and now if you see any ridges or high spots you can lightly press them down. I like to give a light touch to every square inch of what I am doing to ensure that the SC is fully embedded.

  13. I got leading far worse than the pics above in my 9mm pistols, but like the recent commenter, zero leading in my .40. In fact those .40 180gr bullets are great and I have zero complaints. I might continue to shoot them.

My uneducated guess is, the increased velocity of 9mm creates more heat and their coating fails at a higher temp? If it were just a soft-lead issue, my .40 pistol should be showing the same awful leading as my 9mms.

Yeah, I don't have a problem disengaging the lock - slight pull on slide works fine.

For locking back, I've always been more comfortable locking the slide and actually physically checking that the chamber is empty (versus visually checking).

Granted, I only plan on competing occasionally with this gun, as a way to get more practice time with it. Main role will be for CCW.

So you visually check and see that the chamber is empty, but need to further "physically" check that is clear to verify?  Does that mean sticking your finger in there or what?  You could literally lose the end of a finger doing that on a semi-auto shotgun.  I wonder if you meant something different.  I hope you aren't doubting your eyes.

If you're having issues with a short/tight chambered 9mm firearm, then try their 9mm RNFPBB 125gr "CRB" bullet.

I haven't tested flat point bullets for reliable feeding in my boys' PCC yet, and that is mainly what I bought this batch of bullets for.  I should have ordered a sample of those flat point CRB profile along with my order to see how they go.  Fortunately, my 9mm pistols all run very well and I'm not concerned about the 1.05" oal running reliably.  I like being able to load to 1.12 because that is what the Taylor Freelance Goliath mag extension recommends as a max length and conventional wisdom says, "load as long as you can".

I'd prefer to just have one source for my bullets, and I personally almost exclusively shoot Limited .40.  I'm so accustomed to the flat point of most all .40 bullets, and J-Ames only sells round point profile.  I'm sure they would feed fine, but they just don't look right to me. yuck.

  16. I recieved my 125gr 9mm shipment. You are correct, it is not the same coating as Precision bullets. It does look to be very consistent. I weighed 11 bullets and 9 were 128gr, one 126gr , and another 130gr.
Their bullet profile isnt ideal for loading long.(see pic). My SAR9 has the shortest throat of my 9mm pistols, and for the rounds to plunk and spin I was at 1.05". I haven't shot them yet, but it sounds like they will be fine, from your experience. I just dont want any more leading like I got from Brazos bullets. What a chore to clean. aa35ee55116ec4bc144903c6d8d4d5f9.jpg
