  1. There are other places in your life where you can find small changes that save money, as well. I save $300 a year by drinking water instead of tea when I eat out. I save a grand/year by drinking my coffee at home instead of at Starbucks. I save $200 by shaving with an old school razor instead of buying cartridges. I drive a paid off car instead of carrying a note. It is a mindset.

I do all of that so I can bring my family on big vacations, I buy whatever gun I want and literally do not have enough time to do all the shooting I can afford and want.

This is my philosophy in regards to affording this nasty expensive hobby. But it leads to me being an AHole at times. When the GF wants to go out for dinner and entertainment, I'm immediately like damnit. That's at least 1000 bullets I could have bought. I don't want to end up a lonely old man, so I give in and adjust accordingly.

Same here, but I want to be the dad that everyone wishes they had, so I do memorable stuff with the family.

If I have to spend money I didn't plan on then I'll get all bitter, "well, there goes 5000 primers".

  2. I took the RO class with the DNROI, I was RO for a shooter and he took and unexpected turn and I had to jump out of his way. No contact, no disturbance of the shooter, but me being in his vision was enough to warrant offering a reshoot.

  3. Gas and range fees can be offset by opportunity cost ( you would have done another activity if you didnt shoot a match)

It is the ammo that is the killer.

If you shoot 350rds a week, you can burn $400 a year by not shopping around for your bullets.

  4. Avg price paid OTD 2X $950= $1900

$25 for the mag (4) from Greg Cote and $25 for the base pad (6) from BSPS X6= $250

Springs, Firing pins under $50 each so $100

    Total of $2150 for 2 Stock 2's

I have extras parts that I picked up that ended up not being needed that are not included, 2 different makes of fiber sights, guide rod, trigger, grips, replacement parts that got launched into another dimension, part swapping off my Stock 1 etc.

  5. To get results downrange, I do not feel like I need $500 in parts.

I need springs, a sheet of 1000 grit sandpaper, and the XL firing pin. I might even go crazy and put a dot of neon fingernail polish on the front sight.

Grips? I just had Nick at Copper Gun Grips make a set, $35 (I think he is selling them now, BTW). I also see people sanding the wood down and putting on skateboard tape. In my mind, an affectation rather than a requirement. Frankly, if your hand doesn't fit the gun, you might consider a different gun.

Fiber? There is no time difference between my S2 with the fiber and the one with the fingernail polish.

Trigger? It is just the shoe for $100. My finger does prefer this but I'm not buying another.

Hammers, sears etc...? Not needed to make the gun ready for competition, but if you must then it isn't drop in parts, it has to be fitted.

Guide rod? I hear this is good for the gun. So, ok $40.

  6. Very valuable information aceinyourface, thanks for posting that

I have 2 Stock 2s, I can buy 10 more if I choose, and I pinch every penny. (which is probably why I have that much coin)

    No problemo!

Glad to clear up any misconceptions, like Stock 2 owners don't care about what they pay for their gear.

  7. Man, that really hurt. I went through all my .45 brass last night and today and culled all the A USA brass. I must have lost at least 300 cases to the trashcan, but at least I know that they won't be able to hurt anyone ever again! :roflol:

I know that 300 cases isn't a lot to most folks here, but I'm just starting to load .45, so it represented a decent percentage of my inventory!

Don't trash 'em! Save that stuff and sell it for scrap brass along with your fired primers. There's money there in that stuff!

I am getting a fat bucket going, what is the scrap value, or how much do you end up making when you scrap it?
