  1. I agree with not setting up for DQ stages. I think anytime the RO warns to watch your 180, there's a safety problem before you shoot. If the stage design or set up seems to be too close to the 180 rule, it probably is. I don't like hearing about things like this, when they are totally avoidable if the stage is set correctly.
  2. I ran WW231 and HP-38 (same powder) for a long time. 3.6 gn 1.125 oal with no problem, especially with coated bullets. No leading. The real problem is pushing that 124 gn bullet at 1000+ fps. Bayou bullets, while coated are not jacketed. Try to stay below that 1000 fps threshold.
  3. I'll start with a range of 2.5 to 3.1. See what that does. Just wanted to make sure there werer no pressure issues with the higher charge wieght.
  4. I had the same problem when starting out. Try this tip I saw. Start with one eye closed and sight the weapon. Just before you squeeze open the closed eye. Also practice dry-firing with both eyes open at home. Remember weapon empty and ammo in another room!
  5. I'm going to start loading 147gn, 9mm, 1.156" OAL. (Bullets will be coated). The load data that I have shows 2.8 gns of Titegroup to be the max. However shooters with more rounds under thier belt are going to 3.1 or 3.2 gns of TG. Compared to the book this seems like a lot. I'm shooting these out of a XDm, 4.5". I'd like to make PF of around 130.
  6. I know you said you're not shooting lead or coated rounds, but........ If you load 231 or hp38 in the 3 gn range you will need a lighter spring. I'm running 124 LRN 3.6gn HP38 with a 13# spring and it cycles fine. It's my experience that you need to be in the middle of the powder charge to work the slide. So I'm assuming thier load data only considers standard springs.
  7. I've been a frequent visitor to the forum, but just now decided to actually take part. would consider myself new to competitive shooting, but may have something to add from an older perspective. I enjoy the topics a lot and have found them to be very helpful.
