  1. Erik S on pro am stage:

I shot a match a few weeks ago and one of the guys I was with, decided to video it since I told him I've never shot one. I was pretty happy with the stars, but forgetting a reload and several times I tried to pull off the poppers before I had good hits slowed me down a bit but overall I did think it went ok.

I need to get some classifiers to see where I'm at, currently unclassified since I just started shooting "competitively" this spring.

  2. Anyone heard of or used a CSC Arms ar? They look fairly priced but seem kind of too good too be true priced. I'm kind of looking for a lower end ar for my wife so if it's not for her, I'm not invested too much into it. I was looking at thier Battle Model on gunbroker but can't find much info about them.

Anyone have any input on them or do you think I should just build here one?

  3. I know this is a old thread but does anyone have any load data for 147gr plated with bullseye powder?

I know it's not the ideal powder but it's what I have. From looking on the internet some have suggested 3.3 bullseye at about 1.14 oal. Does this sound like a place to start?

  4. Starting in USPSA production with a m&p pro is exactly how I started shooting this spring. I had seen and read about it and decided I need to just jump in and try it.

I've had the best accuracy with 124gr and 147gr reloads but even with 115gr accuracy was acceptable. When I got my pro, I had some trigger work done and different sights put on but that's it. The only other thing I may do is put some grip tape on but that's about it.

  5. Sorry for the late response - topic was not being followed. the 147gr are RN, My 180gr 40sw is fp. Accuracy will be about the same within 25yds. at 50yds, the slower traveling bullets will have a bigger drop [1/2"] compared to the faster 124gr. the recoil for the 147 is markedly softer and easier to track in rapid firing. In a steel gun, the 147 is Extremely tame.

Better late then never. I just ordered some 147gr rn so when it gets here, I'll be doing some experimenting to find a charge that works for me with bullseye powder.

  6. I guess I'm not high speed low drag enough to justify dropping almost $300 on safety glasses. I do wear prescription lenses and bi- focal contact lenses so I realize how expensive eyewear can be.

Issue is, I'm hard on glasses of any kind. Prescription or otherwise.

I'm more inclined to buy something I won't cry over if they get slung off my face or stomped and scratched or sat on or chewed by the dog.

I'm not nearly good enough to justify that kind of money either but a pair of Oakley g30 lenses cost $60 for my current pair of sunglasses and just swap the lenses out.

  7. Anyone have any first hand info between the Rudy's w/ race red lenses Or whatever the reddish/pinkish lenses are vs Oakley's w/ g30 lenses?

Yes, I have both. The rudy laser racing red is better. I will try to find a way to get a photo of each looking at my red fiber optic and post it here. IMO, better means the red fiber optic is brighter.
That would be great if you can show both. I'm a long time Oakley user for sunglasses and am very happy with them. I recently bought a cheap pair of vermilion shooting glasses just to see the difference in picking up the front sight with with a red/pinkish lenses. Even with the cheap ones, it stands out much better than my normal glasses so I might spend some money on some good ones.

One thing that I really like about the Oakley's is the mframes. They give a wide view and offer a little more protection than most glasses.

Even with the cheap glasses, it seems like I can see the scoring zones and more detail on the steel as well as pick up my front sight better.

I swear there is a difference, although minor, there is. However, looking at it through the camera, you can't see it. Since I've promised to take the photos, here they are. Laugh all you want at my attempt.

video of both, the Oakley is the top lenses, the Rudy is the bottom lenses

Thanks for the video and pictures. Honestly, I can't really see a difference between the two but I'm sure there is in person. I'm still kind of up in the air between the two.

  9. Actually I just looked at their site and they only have 147gr rn in stock. Any thoughts on it as opposed to 124gr rn?

They are having a sale on 9mm bullets right now. Keep checking, they will build up stock again.

Should have checked their website before I replied to you. They have hundreds and hundreds of boxes of all their 9mm's in stock! Don't know what you are looking at?

    .

I meant in 147 gr they only had rn. I didn't see any flat points in the 147gr weight.

  10. I run 147gr Xtreme FP. Any type of 147gr will shoot softer then any 124gr bullet at same PF. - just the physics of it.

As to shooting higher, you would need to speed it up a bit.

The 147gr bullet will actually drop about 1/2" more at 50yds, since it is traveling an a lower velocity to keep the same pf as the 124gr.

Within 25yds the difference will be very small, especially shooting unsupported.

You should have plenty of elevation for IDPA distances using factory sights.

I also use Bullseye and love its consistency.

I just got 4# of Bullseye (not my usual, but in a shortage you have to take what you can get.) but I haven't even started thinking about working up a load for 147g rn Xtreme. How many grains are you using?

I haven't loaded any 147gr yet. For the 124gr RMR plated and xtreme 124gr RN, I have been using 4.2 gr of bullseye at 1.150 oal.

Have you found that you like the 147gr FP better than the 124gr? Better accuracy or do you like the recoil better? I'm down to just under 1k bullets left and will be ordering soon.

  12. I made it out to the range today and did some chronograph runs. For some reason the chronograph wasn't picking up every shot so I'll just post a summary. If anyone wants to see the specifics for any of the loads I'll gladly post it. All bullets were Blue Bullet 125g and all were loaded to 1.135 OAL. Accuracy test: They all hit the berm behind the chrono :). I was just testing to see if they would make USPSA Production minor power factor. All rounds were shot using S&W M&P Pro 9mm with factory barrel.

    Red Dot (3.8g)

    Avg velocity: 1058

    Std Dev: 8.2

    Avg PF: 132

(I liked the feel of this load shooting a few rounds off hand after doing chronograph run)

    800-X (4.5g)

    Avg velocity: 946

    Std Dev: 25.2!

    Avg PF: 118

Not sure what was going on with this powder. Velocities ranged from 900 to 974. I guess my RCBS chargemaster did not dispense it very consistently.

    Bullseye (3.9g)

    Avg velocity: 1072

    Std Dev: 11.8

    Avg PF: 134

    Titegroup (3.9g)

    Avg velocity: 1076

    Std Dev: 18.2

    Avg PF: 134

I shoot bullseye with 124gr rn and I have to get up to 4.2gr and my avg pf is about 131 with my m&p pro. Maybe my chronograph is off. What kind of weather was this shot in?

  13. The 124gr aren't bad for me but I am wondering if the 147 might shoot a bit higher so I don't have to use all my elevation on my rear sight and maybe get a slightly less snappu recoil than the 124gr. I was just hoping someone had a little experience with them for some input.

I know a lot of people swear by hollow points for accuracy but it might just be a Chevy vs. Ford thing too...

  14. Shel6977... I called. There are two ladies there I deal with for over the phone orders. When I ordered my latest 1000 9mm I simply asked for a sample pack of a couple of .45 ACP bullets (I don't shoot much .45 but was developing a load for a friend). They included two 30 round sample packs with my order. Xtreme is Xtremely easy to deal with.

Thanks for the info. I have been shooting 124gr. RN but have been kicking around shooting 147gr or hollow points and see if there is any accuracy difference.

  15. Another vote for Xtreme. I use the 9mm .356 147 with 3.8 grains WSF. A gorgeous load in my 9mm M&P! I use the 147 9mm .357 RN in .38 Spl (IDPA) and .38 Long Colt (ICORE).... dead nuts accurate and pours into the cylinder from a Comp III as smooth as you can get. I also tried out some of their 225 grain .45 ACP FP recently. Just a sample pack.... didn't even chrono... just accuracy tested in my 4.5-inch S&W M&P with a TiteGroup powder charge that made 165 PF with 230 grain plated loads. Five round groups ran 2 1/8 to 2.5 inches. This is the most accurate load I've ever shot in that gun, including factory premium stuff.

    Yeah... another vote for Xtreme.

How do you get a sample pack from xtreme? I'm thinking of trying some different weight and bullet profiles for 9mm but don't want to buy 500 to find out my gun doesn't like them...
