  1. Given my recent customer service experience, my suggestion is to get an STI Eagle or Edge and don't waste your money or time with most gunsmiths.

They are backlogged and don't have the support that STI has.

If I had a million dollars, maybe I'd think differently.

But I'm just glad to have ammo and be shooting that day, usually, and so I'm pleased as punch with my basically stock STI Eagle 5.0.

Well, Im going to keep my fingers crossed... my custom build is almost ready for hard chrome.

  2. Deals on dillon are tough, new or used.... I lucked into a 20% sale a a large sporting goods store up here in the northeast.

That being said, if my 550b were stolen I would gladly pay full retail for a new one again. It was the best thing I ever did for my shooting hobby

  3. I looked at Franks Site, I get to the Phoenix area on occasion and may have to drop in sometime. If I were you, I would have Frank tune an extra extractor for your gun while he has it. Its one of the most likely parts to fail down the road, and having one that is already tuned for your gun by the smith that built your gun is as good of insurance as you can have in your bag. He lists a tuned extractor for $40, well worth it.

Yup, ordered the extractor as part of my original quote

  4. Just an update on the build.

Mr Glenn contacted me stating that the pistol will be going off to hard chrome by the end of this week and he expects to have it ready to ship back to me by the beginning of august!

My initial deposit was sent in the 1st of May!

I sincerely hope Frank's guns are as good as he is... he has been awesome to work with, without much of the "attitude" of many of the other custom builders I had spoken with prior.

I'm already planning my next project with him, a single stack in .40 :)

I know there are many awesome builders out there, but if your looking to have something built Frank is a great guy to consider

  5. Eggman,

How was the overall build quality on your gun? I just got a NIB Pro Custom 14.45 and am a little disappointed in the quality of the gun. The trigger has a lot of play in it as does the slide/frame fit. The frame also has pits and rough spots in the finish...my last SA Loaded had a better fit and finish.

I will say the barrel locks up nice and tight and looks to fit the bushing well...

    Am I being too picky?

    Thanks,

    Powderman81

Mine has everything you've stated and more.... Completely, entirely unacceptable for a pistol with a $1400 msrp. Mine went back to Para, as the dealer told me that haven't seen any pistol come through the door looking as bad as my para did, ever...

Para, for life. ( which is how long I'll be stuck with it )

Edit: mine is a brand new pro custom 10.45

  6. I will post my initial build list when I get home later tonight, but it sounds like I'm on the right track.

Mag tuning is really the only thing up in the air. Mags are hard enough to find in my state legally (I need pretty ban sti mags, and that's not easy! )

Tune my own with a tuning kit? I have inquired with Mr Glenn as to his recommendation and what he might be able to offer

  7. Hello all

I wonder if those on here that shoot USPSA Limited division might b willing to weigh in with a few opinions from their experience with a custom built pistol on a STI 2011 frame. I am new to Limited division having only shot production and SS divisions previously and I have never had a custom pistol built.

I currently do have a gunsmith in mind and I have been very pleased with his reputation, and ease in communication in my initial conversations

I also currently own a STI 2011 long / wide frame ( never built ) Brazos modified unique 5" slide ( lightning cuts and dovetail / bomar cuts already done )

In the world of 1911/2011 pistol parts there seems to be no end to boutique and specialty brands, latest fad's ( for better or worse ) and "must" have parts and gadgets...

If you were to build a pistol based on solid performance, and ultra reliability for a new shooter what items and or brands would your request in a parts spec for your build? Price is certainly a factor as I've never spent this type of money on a firearm before, but I will be parting with a few items to help ease that pain

EDIT: Not sure I posted this in the right forum area...

  8. Got a response from Travis on another forum and all I can say is WOW is he a standup guy... He really cares about the product, the customer and takes pride that he is the spokesperson for the brand.

If the people that produced my pistol had half that self pride, I would have an outstanding pistol.

In the end, my pistol will be headed back to Para and I don't know what I will do with it when it returns. My ordered for the Travis Tomasie signature model has been canceled.

My sincere thanks to everyone who has helped here. I understand my experience with Para is not the same as yours, and I'm not interested in unnecessarily bashing the brand. It's just very disappointed when the most expensive firearm purchase turns out this poorly

  9. Brought the pistol home last night and I'm beyond frustrated at this point...

Attempted to contact Travis, but his mail box is full. Just as well, as it's not really his responsibility and certainly not his fault.

The finish on mine in areas is the worst QC I've seen on any new pistol from any brand at any price ( I would rather have a rusty ruger, at least their customer service will talk to you! ). Machine / tooling marks are plentiful. They couldn't even take the time to use the correct screw driver on the rear site, leaving marks on the adjusting screw...

If I had been able to see this in a gun shop is never in a million years would have purchased in.... Not even for half of msrp

  10. Contact Travis Tomasie at Para. If anyone can help, he can.

I'm not sure how to reach him, but I will try. At this point it's not even about a silly $50 part... I can't believe they would treat a paying customer with a concern like that.

Thanks for putting up with my complaining all! Finally got some shooting weather up here in the Northeast! First match of the year on Sat!

  11. Well, I know I'm in the wrong forum to bash Para but WOW! Talk about the worst customer service I've ever experienced.

After calling customer service this morning I was told "I" was mistaken that the Pro Custom 10.45 does not included the dawson magwell. Due to the 10 round mags the magwell will not work and is not included. I asked why it was advertised on the website and every picture Para has published of the 10.45 pro custom and i was told he would have to talk to people about that....

I was not even offered an apology, let alone the magwell they advertise the pistol with.

Best of all, I tried to call back a little past 5:00 to express my displeasure in the overall experience only to find that customer service closes at 5:00 and not 5:30 as is stated on their website

  12. Wouldn't it be the same as a USPSA limited gun? 0cf92bc5.jpg

I know I'm resurrecting a year old thread, but care to divulge some info on this setup?

    Dan

  13. Went and paid for the pro custom today... Just waiting for transfer to a dealer in my home state. Not particularly happy to see Para decided to ship mine WITHOUT the magwell. Looks like I will get to deal with customer service before ever even firing the pistol, not a great impression to leave with a customer on a $1k+ pistol

Anyone with recommendations or tips for setting this up for recoil spring weights?

Edit: nevermind there's a whole forum section dedicated to springs... Sorry for the noob question.
