One of my Xfives didn’t have one in either, but Sig sent me one

Uhhh, so I guess they aren't needed?  haha I have put probably 800 rounds through it and it functions fine.

For what it's worth I don't remember seeing it when I disassembled, I stopped after pulling out the sear and didn't take out the housing so I assumed it just stayed in there (not knowing how it worked or what it was) but it makes more sense now that it wasn't even in there in the first place.

  2. Finally shot a match with the X5 in production, and it is quickly growing on me.  It's not quite as nice as a full steel gun obviously, but it performed admirably.  I put 400 rounds through it the day before and it really helped break the gun in.

  3. The winner ALSO won a different match with an Atlas... LOL

And in a different year, a winner also won one of the matches with a Glock, which is widely agreed upon as an inferior platform.  Long story short, people have shooting teams with pro shooters in hopes of having people be swayed just like you just were, but I agree with the sentiment that you should find what works for you.  If you don't have anyone, that's a very very expensive investment to make based on the interwebs.  Limcat, Akai, Atlas... all going to get you the generally same performance.  As long as your equipment is reliable, which all those smiths are, then you start looking at price, looks, customer service, etc.  Limcat is too flashy for me personally and I have seen a lot of malfunctions from all the shooters near me who run them (large Filipino community), but it could easily just be failure to make good ammo on their part, because any of those smiths require high quality ammo to ensure good reliability.  I do plan on buying a Limcat magwell to stick on my Chaos in the off-season.

  4. Anyone know where to get a rear sight plate for the X5?  Or assuming the RX one works too.  Reason, I have a Vortex Venom sitting on the Springer Precision plate on my X5, and the sight is maxed out to the right and I'm still needing to adjust the POI.  I need to put other sights on there to see if it's the gun or the optic, and I can't find where I put the sight plate that came with it.

Haven't had any luck finding one and surprised it's not on sigsauer's shop that I can see.  TIA

  5. I didn't think this would be this contentious.  Several months later, I have been taking it a little easier on the powerlifting as I had to prepare for my annual PT test and uspsa nationals, but I don't regret using them.  My wrist mobility has increased enough that I find myself needing them less, and that is with very little work on wrist mobility.  I do spend a lot of time working mobility drills through ROMWOD which has been extremely helpful in keeping me healthy and limber.

Seems like everyone is talking nemesis.  So I take it that's just the way to go?  Is the only major difference the site block?

Sort of. The slide is shortened slightly when they add the slight block. The result is less reciprocating mass.

I have a Titan and while I do love it, I would probably recommend the Nemesis just because the tech, by all accounts, is better.  That said, the difference isn't going to win you a match.

  7. All this does is it means there will be less GM's and Masters in the immediate future, which in my opinion is good because it helps preserve the sanctity of the class, and make it in and of itself more of an achievement.  It will have no bearing on where people place in matches which is what it has alway been about anyways.

Don’t pay attention to the “someone’s” with gun issues, pay attention to the best open shooters you have around you and I’ll bet they rarely if ever have any reliability issues at matches.

regardless of the builder, by nature open guns are pushing the limits of what’s possible with the balance of what’s possible between speed and accuracy in a pistol.

In open the shooter is as responsible, as the gun is, when It comes to reliability.

If you’re willing to do the work and put the time in to ensure your gun is reliable you’ll love open just don’t expect a kalashnikov in terms of reliability

Indeed. They do require more maintenance than other guns.  But in the end, everything is under my control. I never go into a match thinking "I hope my gun runs."

Nearing the end of my 2nd year shooting USPSA. I've went from production to limited to carry optics.  I really like the high cap divisions.  I've always wanted to shoot open just been nervous because of cost and it seems that nobodys open gun runs 100%.

I don't buying quality.  I don't mind some upkeep (mags).

But I want reliability!  I did shoot with a guy at AT who's chaos ran 100%. But saw most all other open shooters have issues.

Is reliability possible?  I'll admit I was worried about the same thing when I went to limited but my Titans have been 100%!

I have a Chaos that has had one malfunction in just under 10K rounds: a case that didn't eject with enough power, bounced off the optic and got stuck in the ejection port.  Needless to say a .01% failure rate is less than any of my other guns, including polymer guns.  A lot goes into getting that though, I do maintain it much more meticulously than polymer or even limited guns, I am very choosy with magazines and especially ammo.

I have seen other open guns cause lots of problems, I would not recommend buying an old gun that has changed hands lots of times.  If you're going to play in open, buy a new or lightly used high end gun from a reputable manufacturer.

In that case you save yourself a ton of work and get the Cheely Evo2 grip. To heck with the silicon carbide. After working with SC for over 40 years it is much better suited for polymer.

I've already got a PT Evo, and from everything I've heard, it's already more aggressive than the Cheely.  But that's good to know about being better for polymer.

You don't need the meatal grips for silicon carbide grips. Blend the polymer grip to the shape you want and use Marine Tex and your choice of grit screen size. Lots of opinions on that.

No you don't, but metal > polymer in my opinion due to firmness and weight.  So in order to get the best of both worlds, I'd need a smooth metal grip.

  12. Curious about what happened following the shot!   Reason being, I train alone about 50% of the time.  I leave gates unlocked for quicker access for EMS, and I have a TQ and med kit in my truck at all times.  But any lessons learned in that regard would be appreciated.

Wife says I am grounded .. scolding me every time I get near my gear...

Bluedevil008 what holster did you switch to?

The Safariland.  It seems MUCH safer in my opinion.  Drawback is you have to run the muzzle nub thingy just because of the design of the holster, but it is quicker, and I have had zero issues with any snagging or catching.

I think that's about as fast as I'll ever be. I've always had this fear of shooting my foot that I cant shake. Now the fear is written in stone. There's always other places to make up time, I'm not trying for GM just having fun.

You can still shoot yourself in the foot with a 1.6 second draw if you disengage the safety in the holster and snag the trigger...

A .8 draw is pretty easy for me within 10 yards and there is a very audible click of the safety that never happens until well after I have the gun out of the holster and aiming downrange.   Also, I stopped running DAA holsters because it was catching.  In addition to slowing me down, I was concerned of something like this happening.

  15. Super light AR's are popular due to a fad, they don't perform any better or worse.  It's personal preference.  IMO, the barrel weight out front is the biggest concern for an AR.

I run an Atlas Chaos which is quite heavy, I think it's about 52oz. I don't feel slow when transitioning, but I practice transitions a lot and am in good shape.  If I was running minor only then maybe the extra grip weight wouldn't be worth it, but it certainly has less felt recoil than a plastic grip gun. Maybe a little less violent is the way to describe it.

Yeah, it's super weird. I think the paperwork said my Atlas came with a 9# (will have to check) and I clocked my Autocomp load at 171.5pf at this match as well. Wonder if I should give Adam a call or send an email.

Can't hurt!  I would go on a limb and say a nice healthy gun probably shouldn't do that much damage to a buffer in 250 rounds, whether or not it's tuned to run one or not.  Got a video of you shooting the gun?  Preferably slo-mo?

It is installed between the recoil spring and the guide rod

This is what my Wilson Shock Buff looked like after ~250 rounds (relubing during lunch break at Area 8).

Woooow, even after 2600 rounds mine never got that disformed... I'm running 9 major as well. 8# wolff spring  autocomap pushing a 124 at about 172PF.  Weird

  18. 1 hour ago, touji said:

I've been using Wilson buffs in my Atlas but it usually won't last more than 300-400 rounds. It starts to really slow the slide down and I eventually get a failure to go into battery more than FTEs.

I have been running them in mine as well. 8600 rounds through it so far.  I replace every 1K with no issues.  One time I left one in there to see how long it would go till failure and it made it about 2500 rounds before it started to slow down the slide.  I would venture you may be running too light a spring if it's messing up after 300 rounds!

  19. Buying 9 major = >.$.4/round

Reloading with reprocessed brass = $.19/round on first reload, $.165/round on second reload... $.1575/round on third reload (don't make it past that usually)

I have shot 7500 rounds through my open gun this year, of which about 2000 has been factory minor, so 5500 rounds of major.  That's $1155 in savings over buying new just this year so far!

Oh, and even buying new brass, which I just did to make some loads for Nationals, it's still only $.27/round

I keep hearing about how Nationals has a tradition of it raining. Looking to those who are experience with the FrostProof weather.

How deep does the mud get? Are there places/cover to get out of the rain? Rain gear suggestions, like big ponchos or umbrellas, extra shoes, cover for gear bags?

Yes, every bay has a covered portion. A proper Florida storm means you will still get wet.  Bring everything you can.
