  1. Stage planning. You never should have shot the forward position last. You had to cover half the distance of the course an extra time. That just eats up seconds. Just keep shooting matches and experience will come.

How would you have shot it? I considered shooting the forward position in the middle, but then I would have had to retreat back to the main area to complete the COF. Maybe I missed something?

I am very new at this, so take it with a grain....

But the two arrays left and right of center look as if they could have been taken from the same spot. Instead of a full side step over, maybe a hard lean. And if they did need a change in position, you should have made it much more explosive. Movement from spot to spot could be faster, and like dover said, it will come with practice and experience.

  2. Finally a weekend where I don't have something planned over a match and no matches to be had anywhere. Why? Because this is the 5th weekend in the month; I hate that.

What is even worse is your club holding a Special Classifier match on said 5th weekend...

where Jessie Duff is going for GM, if I am not mistaken...

and Bob Vogel will be there....

and not only did my firing pin break yesterday....

but I also have a HORRIBLE chest cold.

  3. I've been thinking....I think kids would strive for better grades if their scores were classified like the USPSA.

I feel they would be quite enticed to make "GM" in any given subject.

Grandmaster of Science.....has a nice ring to it, eh?

    Congrats!

  4. Welcome to the forum. Remember that tiny steps is considered movement in IDPA. Practice movement during your dry fire practice.

best advice I got on that topic is "move slow, shoot fast"....you can truck it in between positions, but when shooting on the move, you want to slow down. (Hard for me to remember sometimes, having long lanky legs)

  5. I like minimalist shoes for gun games. The very thin sole lets you feel the ground well which I like and being lower to the ground might help balance slightly. My assumption is that I can shoot better on the move if I can feel the ground with my foot but that's just a theory. I like Merell Trail gloves or NB Minimus Trail. I have tried Vibram's while hiking and trail running but they allowed sharp rocks on the ground to hurt my feet, accidentally kicking things hurt, I was worried about breaking my little toe kicking things, and they took me a while to put on. I'm sure with continued use my feet would have adapted to the Vibrams but the Merrell trail gloves added just enough under my foot that stepping on rocks wasn't painful.

I'm a newb, (barely a B in uspsa) so take my opinions with a grain of salt.

Just a newb pistol shooter, myself. I prefer the adidas adipure barefoots over the Vibrams. I feel they have a better balance of flexibility/rigidity. And they slip on WAAAYYY easier than the VB's.

  6. I went to the range today for a short training session. I ran into a couple of members shooting what was left over from yesterday's USPSA match. Melanie let me shoot her 38 special at 6 steel targets. The trigger pull was very long but smooth. I had to really to concentrate on the front sight and the trigger pull. That's when I had my A ha moment! I saw the sights lift. I switched back to my G34 and again I saw the sights lift. I'm considering getting a revolver for dry fire.

Where do I go from here? How do I expand on my breakthrough from today?

These are my favorite type of posts! Now you can head down the shot calling road!

THIS^^ is why I love the Bill Drill. It has taught me more about the correlation of grip, stance trigger pull and seeing sights than any other drill. My AHA moment was my first USPSA match. An array of six poppers, had 2 misses on the first 4. Time seemed to freeze and my minds eye saw me squeezing the strong hand while pulling the trigger. It was like an inner voice screaming, "TRIGGER FINGER ONLY!" the last two went down with ease. Congrats on your progress!

  7. I haven't had any problems with the BBI 147gr in my SP-01. I usually clean after 350-500 rounds. What powder are you using?
Same here except I haven't cleaned the barrel in ~8 months or 6K rounds.

DANG, Mr. Matt!!! I use n320...moly residue in the barrel for sure, but not a lot, and no affect on accuracy that I can tell. Now you have me wanting to give my SP-01 a torture test. Looking forward to my first trip to CASA, sir. Don't forget that RAMI safety set ;)

  8. I would think sandbagging gives only one advantage...the ability to win a plaque against people who aren't as good as you really are. I classified as SSP expert in my third match, only shooting a pistol for 6 months. I want to be the best....so I have to beat the best. Strive for that mentality is my vote.

  9. Called on front sight had to buy a 6.0 front sight still high will have to order a 6.5. they did not seem to be very help full. So i figured that Y bother on a trigger that has pre travel and post travel. With a locked in post travel screw. You would think that 2 of the same guns with same sights would hit the same.

They probably used Loctite to set the screw in place. You can always use a heat gun or hair dryer to loosen up the Loctite enough to adjust or remove and clean

  10. +1 for CGW. David is awesome and his EDM EDM parts are flawless.

Haven't had work done by CZC, but I'm on the CZ forum and haven't heard a bad thing about their work or service. And one day, when finances allow , I will be asking Stuart to build my dream Open Tac Sport

  11. I've been a lurker for a few months. Bought my 550B through Brian (thanks for the easy transaction and answering my questions as promptly as you did).

Bought my first pistol in December and started shooting IDPA in February. I just received my CR mag pouches, so on to USPSA Production class!!!

This forum has been a great help already in the progression of my shooting skills. Thanks for having me.
